Why is it that grandma is expected to read the gift card but business operating in Louisiana is not expected to read the statute that governs it?

I don't want to play your link game, but why don't you just man up and answer the questions?

Do you believe SG supporters are racist, yes or no? (if you want to straddle the fence and say yes and no, then answer as to the majority)

Do you support the petition currently being circulated to allow a vote on SG incorporation, yes or no?

I noticed you did not comment on my observation that you were confused by a piece of proposed legislation. Were you or were you not confused by Sen. White's bill?

In reading these threads, I cannot help but notice that the guy says things that are completely contradictory.

Says SG supporters are all horrible racists, but then begs them to stay in EBR schools to make them better

Says SG is dead now that MC has annexed the mall but still desperately wants to stop a vote by the people

Says SG gets its share of money and then some from the taxes we pay but also claims BR budget will crater without SG money to prop it up.

Claims to be super smart but cannot even comprehend a simple piece of legislation that moves tax revenues from one entity to the other.

Insists on links for commonly known facts but can't provide links for real points of substance.

I originally thought he was pretty good at providing useful information but now see that he just makes up whatever he thinks supports the argument he wants to make at the moment.

You are dead on. Nice to see an objective analysis.

I'll answer your question using myself as an example. I support SG because I am philosophically in favor of more localized gov't and think it will lead to better schools. My kids are in private school, so I don't have the same motivation as SG residents with kids in public schools. I signed the petition a few month ago because I happened to be driving by one of the signing locations. My wife just signed the petition a couple of days ago because we received a petition in the mail, and that was the first time she had the chance to do so without seeking out a signing location.

First, I think the leaders of the SG incorporation are doing as good of a job as anyone could do under the circumstances.

But the opposition to SG has nothing to do with the leaders of incorporation. BR wants SG tax money. Period. The SG movement could be led by a Democrat, a Republican, an MBA, an engineer, a high school dropout, a Muslin, a short guy, a black guy, a fat guy, a woman, or a guy who wears overalls, and the same people who oppose it now would oppose it then because they don't want to SG tax money to go away.
The news just reported that none of the anchor stores joined in petitioning for annexation, so they are still in the incorporated area of the parish and would be part of SG if it is incorporated? Can anyone confirm or refute this? Did BR just annex the food court and parking lot of the mall or did they get the whole thing?

Take a look at La. R.S. 33:2-4. These statutes say that once the signatures are certified, the governor is to call a special election to determine whether the area listed in the petition is to be incorporated. These statutes do not specifically address what happens if an existing city attempts to annex part of the area defined in the petition. It think reasonable people can argue it both ways, but SG has a good argument.

Your unnamed friend must live in a very special undisclosed neighborhood. I forget the exact numbers but a BRAC poll recently found that the majority of SG residents support an independent school system and about 36% support creating a new city as a means to do this. The BRAC poll did not specifically ask respondents that supported the new school system whether they would support a new city if that was the only way to create an independent school system.

It can't be the home values that are creating this strange anomaly of 0% support for SG because I live in an area with comparable home prices and the majority of my neighbors support SG.
Sure they do. They just look at the private property and say it is now public property. You seriously think they are bothered with property rights?
If you know any of the St. George organizers, please extend my thanks to them for their extraordinary efforts to try and improve our failed school system. I don't know them but would like to meet them and thank them personally one day. I'm sure they understood there would be opposition from BR residents that benefit from St. George tax dollars, but no one could have predicted the tactics they have employed. For everyone second guessing them, there any many people like me in our community that appreciate their efforts.

Is there a time limit on how long to take the PE test after the EIT?

This is actually be a good thing for SG. BR will get more St. George money to squander. St. George residents get great community schools and will prosper in the long run. This ransom is a small price to pay for all the benefit of incorporation.
Absolutely. Just look at all the people that sit in 10 miles of traffic everyday to get ascension schools. Businesses go where the consumers are so st George will have plenty of tax revenue long term. Give BR the mall tax money to stop complaining and let st George residents govern themselves.
I'd make that deal in a heartbeat. Increase in property values alone would offset that. Just talk of st George is driving up home values. Plus I pay thousands in private school tuition. And on top of that, businesses would migrate to st George and increase tax revenue and I value local gov't. Would you stop opposing st George if BR got mall and hospital money?
Why? Seems like a good deal for both sides if this happens. Those opposing St. George don't give a damn about education and just want some St. George money to squander on failing schools and unions, which they would get from the mall and hospital taxes. St. George supporters, of which I am one, would get good public schools and local government. Taxes would be higher in St. G but would be offset by a better quality of life, higher property values, and savings on tuition. I'm in.

It is not the lawyer that stops the investigation but if the husband says he wants to speak to his lawyer and cop continues to question him, nothing husband says will be admissible. I'm not going to waste my time citing case law but there is plenty saying this is so.

Judges, attorneys, anyone that understand the Constitution.

Why are you laughing at the U.S. Constitution?

Cop: Answer my questions now.
Citizen: I wish to exercise my right to counsel before answering any questions.
Cop: Ok. I'll arrest your counsel for interfering with my investigation if you talk to him. I am a cop after all and can do what I please.

Are you really stupid enough to think any judge will allow that?
