I was fishing off a dock and felt the dead weight, thinking for sure I had hooked some of the concrete rip-rap. Well to my surprise, as it neared the surface handlebars appeared. It was a old rusty bmx bike, but it was oddly too heavy for me to pull up completely to get my line off. So I set my rod down to go get a gig to pull up the bike by the handlebars, and to my further surprise the extra weight was a old car tire stuck to the bike pedal. Who knows what other mysteries lie at the bottom of that lake.

Good Stuff Eatery on Pennsylvania Ave. - a burger shop by that dude Spike from Top Chef. Burgers are good, and you need to try the Village Style fries (with salt and herbs) using the various mayo combinations (mango-mayo, sirracha-mayo, chipotle-mayo). And next door is his pizza place, but unfortunately didn't get a chance to taste that.

my first guess would be bluefish Pomatomas saltatrix

Where did it come from?
That's a great article. The NOLA old boy involvement truly has helped shape Louisiana rugby over the past decade or so, making it a state to be respected - including HS, college, and men's rugby.
Congrats to New Orleans on finsihing out an excellent season with the well deserved championship icing on the cake. Way to represent Louisiana rugby.

Oh, and judging by that picture I bet he passed the ball the next time he came near you. And from the earlier pic - I've been saying it for years...you can't stop da bus!
Good luck to New Orleans Rugby Club in the Men's championships.
 hadn't seen that article.

Plus the 2 guys mentioned in the article (not pictured) - Bobby Johns and Adam Ducoing have both been in the pool of players for the USA National Team. Definitely legit, and I look forward to cheering for them this weekend...and drunkenly heckling the opposing teams. :geauxtigers:
That is all I am saying. Regardless of if you are a fan of rugby, check it out this weekend. I promise you it is more entertaining than baseball. Plus you get to cheer for LSU. :geauxtigers:
Yes. Arkansas State and Life have scholarships where they can bring in players from other rugby playing countries. Which kind of sets them apart, especially in 15-a-side rugby. Sevens on the other hand, is such a fast-paced version that in any given match the best prepared team that can execute the quickest can pull off the victory. For instance Utah beat Cal in the final at last year's tournament. But in the end it requires athleticism and skill.

This is club, right? Not NCAA?

True, rugby is a club sport at LSU. However, that is not the case at all universities. Cal, for example has rugby as a varsity sport, and schools like Life University, Arkansas State, Texas A&M, UCONN, and Penn State have scholarships for rugby players.

Doesn't LSU also have a Quidditch club team?

You're retarded for comparing rugby which is a sport (there are many international professional rugby clubs) to a game where Harry Potter fans run around with a stick between their legs.

Those dudes take it too seriously

So actively training for a competitive season against other athletes is uncalled for...I see. I'm sure you know all about athletic training for pledge week, because it's just an organization and all. Wait doesn't LSU have a roleplaying society and a yarn-aholics anonymous organization...so by your logic, your greek lifestyle is the same eschelon of importance.

extra small gap polo LSU shirts

Because no fratstars wear extra-tight polos with multiple popped collars. And for the record I make no excuses for rugby players that exhibit the same degree of douche that plagues your greek community.

The LSU Rugby club will be playing at the 2011 USA Sevens College Rugby Championships in Philadelphia on June 4 and 5 - LINK /. They were selected because of their great rugby play, and even better college fan base - so let's live up to the hype by supporting our Tigers.

Some matches from the weekend will be televised on the following channels:
Universal Sports
Saturday June 4th: 12PM - 2PM
Sunday June 5th: 12PM - 2PM

Versus
Saturday June 4th: 2PM 4PM
Saturday June 4th: 6PM - 8PM
Sunday June 5th: 2PM - 4PM

NBC
Saturday June 4th: 4PM - 6PM
Sunday June 5th: 4PM - 6PM

LSU is slated to play the opening match against Penn State. Later in the day they play powerhouse Cal-Berkley, and conclude Saturday's matches with Ohio State. Good luck to our players. :geauxtigers:

And for those of you not familiar with rugby, Sevens is a 7-a-side version of the game, with 7 minute halves on a full sized field. It results in a fast-paced game - think track meet with tackling. As such, this is the version of rugby that will be introduced in the 2016 Olympics.

re: Gold Fish?????

We tested a theory that we had heard anecdotally - put ice in an icechest, covered the ice with damp burlap cloth, and threw 10 cocahoes on the burlap for over 1 hour. All but 1 of them started swimming around when we put them back in the tank. They are definitely tough SOBs.

We have been working with the cocahoe farmer as well. The gold ones do look badass. We've done some research with the minnows at different salinities, and yes they can survive for bait usage in freshwater. They just don't grow really well in freshwater, so they shouldn't be an escape/invasive problem if they were to get "liberated" from the hook.

re: Crawfish "fat" is really not

Interesting note - that's how you know a crawfish was dead before cooking. The hepatopancreas begins to break down the tissues upon death (start to decay from inside out), which is why "dead" crawfish and shrimp are mushy and break apart.
Good luck to all teams playing. Hope to see some good rugby.

Here is a link to the LSU AgCenter's recreational pond management booklet (LINK ). You can either order a hard copy, or download the pdf. It has lots of information on fertilizing, stocking, etc.

We fished them on the bottom at a camp one night. Cast out a few on seperate poles, and free-spool. Reel in the cats and bass when the line started running.
Although it's a club sport, I played rugby at LSU against other colleges across the country.

Tiger HouTX - you play at LSU or in TX?
Actually they are bringing that one back as well. I think it is going to be one of the sandwich specs (i.e. with fries) also.
I can't help it. I am a sucker for it as well. ANd by the way, the burger with fried japs, bacon, and pepperjack is
