These are the same people who think the sky is falling when Dellinger carries the water for Woodward. LSU will be fine. This is all being driven by agents on all sides.
Every coach starts out somewhere.

re: Is Verge being set up?
Posted by tiger94gop on 11/6/25 at 8:31 am to SlidellCajun
Verge was kept as AD to ensure that the BOS would vote for Rousse. All these people on here complaining about Landry, but everything that has been a "shite show" beyond Landry speaking out of turn has been on the old Regime of SW and the prior Governor's BOS appointees and President. It is politics. There is always compromise to get to the end result. This change is more than just about football, although it was the engine that started it all. All State Universities are political and doesn't take much research to find political dealing in all of them. In every state Universities are used to give out positions, contracts, and patronage. La in no more corrupt than the rest of the States (people just think that because of Long), but every State has corrupt politicians. If you don't believe that you are naive or ignorant of anywhere outside of LA.
People on here complaining about LSU and the lower standards, shootings on Campus, and spending on DEI positions, shouldn't be complaining about what is happening. We need Rousse to make the needed changes at LSU to make a true flagship. LA has not shown the political will to close colleges, so let the others take the lower tier students and professors and let them give out the Women's studies degrees. This is an opportunity to hopefully improve LSU for the better. To acquire the areas around campus and to preserve the history of LSU by not changing the names of buildings because today's students and professors don't understand LSU's history and the context of when things occurred.
Verge should have been fired with SW. However, if the new President wants to flex his muscles against the BOS which will be changing again shortly, Verge will need to understand if he wants to retain his position.
The man has been there days. Let him come in and make his changes. The BOS won't fire him if he pushes Verge to the side. There are changes coming and I hope they meet all the promises.
Verge should be happy to keep his job and LSU will be better served when James Williams and Collis Temple are no longer on the BOS. Not that Carmouche is much better, but it wouldn't be hard to be better than the majority of JBE's appointments.

Verge was a political hire. In order to get Rousse approved, to get the remaining JBE people on the BOS to approve Rousse, you keep Verge. If anything, Verge should have been pushed out with SW. This is politics pure and simple.
Anyone could use the same formula SW used to get a Coach, and SW assistants were running everything but football. So, if they get innovative with a young coach for 1/2 the money and 1/2 the years, it is no worse than SW.
I really hope Rousse can bring the needed changes to LSU. Get the JBE people out and reverse a lot of the disturbing trends happening there. I am willing to take Verge to get that done. I just hope they use some input from the outside to make the football hire.

First of all you are an idiot.
LA has not bedn controlled by the GOP until recently. Thd majority of its existance it has been Democrat controlled and many of thd older Republicans in the legislature are former Dems.
Every state college in every state is political. Especially the flagship. So this goes on at all State Universities, its just public because it is the SEC and football.
Just look at TX, there was a ton of in fighting when Ann Richards a Baylkr grad wanted to make sure Baylor was part of the Big 12. She was a democrat.
Look at Alabama fighting over financing sports at UAB. Bryant Jr and all his political manuvers.
It is just being pushed because of the SEC and ESPN needing content. This will blow over with a new hire.
If anything you can't look at JBE and his cronies on the BOS and the contracts to J Bernhard, Collis Temple, the no football without new taxes and the race stuff, and not say we have just moved from a very political time at LSU. This is relative.

You could have achieved the same results as BK with 1/2 the money and 1/2 the years. Other programs brought in Coordinators, you didn't need the biggest name with the biggest contract. It's a risk, but it's a far less risk than the BK situation. You bring in a coach from a school that his bias built in, doesn't play in a conference, and from all indications had a poor relationship with his players. SW also misunderstood NIL.

Whose being silly when you agreed with my argument. As I said they are both making disingenuous statements which you don't seem to understand.
With your own quote, Landry is right, the "State" meaning LSU is liable for the buyout. I guess you are hung up on me using the word donations.
Carmouche is right as well when he says the State isn't paying the buyout. However, if BK gets any money from an LSU account, he is wrong.
It is a 1,000 ft view of it, but as I said they are both making statements that aren't explaining the whole situation, regardless of the origins of the funds.
quote:
The LSU athletic department is a self-sufficient business that is “owned” by the state via LSU and the BOS.

quote:
If every bit of donor money dried up, the LSU athletic department would have to cover it. Not the state. That’s the point.
LSU's Athletic Department is part of LSU; correct? So, BK is a State Employee correct? As I said LSU since it is the "State" University, it gets it's funding from the "State". As I said if donations dried up the State would be liable for his buyout. LSU's money, which is technically the States money, would be paid towards the buyout. We know that won't happen, but as I said; once the money is in LSU's coffers it is the States money.
TAF pays him as well, but w/o TAF who pays BK?
As I seaid, they are both saying things that aren't quite true.
re: John Carmouche: "the taxpayer has never paid for a coach and never will"

Landry is technically right.
BK was the highest paid employee of the State. He was not paid individually by TAF, part of his contract is paid by LSU. That is why the BOS has to approve it.
Even if donations to athletics cover it, technically once donated it is LSU's money. So, If every bit of Donor money dried up. LSU (State of LA) would still have to pay the buyout.
Everyone is playing semantics here. Carmouche is being disingenuous as well.

Jindal is why we kept Les for another season. He made the call not to fire him during the A&M game. He was almost out the door.
JBE showed up a Burrow's Heisman ceremony. He was definitely involved in football.

Probably not interested, built a life in Alabama. Not used to having to grovel to people to get money. However, Kim Mulkey would. She was a huge fund raiser at Baylor and the new AD didn't like that. Part of the reason she left. She is really good at raising money for athletics.

So you are saying under JBE there was no politics at LSU?
So, Verge (whose FIL is on the BOS) stayed employed because he was good at his job?
Our current AD, who was a former lobbyist, doesn't have political connections?
So, Colis Temple, who makes huge money from State contracts and is on the BOS because it was a conflict of interest to have Jim Bernhard on the BOS since his company was trying to takeover LSU's physical plant isn't political?
Bernhard was the mentor to the kid who caused LSU to almost be put on probation and had everything swept under the rug, who was once head of the LA Democratic party isn't political?
Even the spotter for the football games in the booth was once head of the LA Democratic party, that's not political, he just has really good eyes.
JBE coming out in front of the legislature and saying if they didn't pass these taxes, LSU couldn't have football; isn't political?
Unless you are talking about a private college who receives no State or Federal funding, all State colleges are political. The problems at LSU with the shootings and lower standards are political. The renaming of Middleton library is political. Everything about a States flagship University is political. LSU will endure, but I actually welcome some of the changes that need to occur at LSU. This is just the first piece.
You want to change it, run for Governor.

His representation is trying to get him a raise. When the CF Playoff has language mentioning your school specifically and you can get in playing the military academies and ACC schools unless you lose 3 games, why would anyone leave.
ND is pretty arrogant, and they did not want to invest anymore in BK. That is why he left to get a retirement package from LSU. ND is supporting Freeman, with NIL and facilities upgrades, etc. If you look at what ND investing in FB pre and post BK. it seems that he had pretty much worn out his welcome, but they didn't want to spend the money to get rid of him. Freeman will stay there for 5 or 6 years too long, because there is no pressure to win it all, he checks all the boxes, and ND is notoriously cheap. It wasn't the academics holding BK's teams back, it was the arrogance of ND saying kids should want to come here because it's ND and not cut corners and do what was needed to get the kids there.
They are now saying "Hey we are ND and we have a black head Coach". That will only last so long.

Just a few things on Coaches and players:
1. At least 60% of these guys come from broken homes who need a father. Coaches often take over that role, whether they want to or not.
2. A lot of these kids have never been further than 50 miles from home. Meaning they are on their own for the first time. Structure and guidance are often craved by these kids. A CEO type coach isn't doing that.
3. Most of these guys a more interactions with their S&C coaches than any other coach, but if the example isn't set from the top, why is the S&C guy going to care that much if the head guy doesn't.
4. It is true that they are getting paid but considering the number of NFL players that go broke, the family and various entourages around these kids are not the best. They really need someone to help and educate them on life.
5. Kelley has had multiple players involved with criminals. Although that isn't rare for a college program. It is rare that a player has two murderers and multiple weapons in his university paid for apt.
Personal Interaction with your players is very important. The same as your own kids. I may be mistaken, but I remember a survey of employees that said a healthy work enviornment was more important than more pay.

Woodward is part of the JBE group. JBE and Barnhard controlled the BOS, so what are you saying? That Woodward was hired by an independent board?
Woodward was a lobbyist before he came to the athletic department. He is very political and has some very political friends. What has happened is that the political winds have changed in the State. A new President and a new direction is very much needed at LSU. They have not eliminated any of the DEI positions and have lowered the standards of admissions. That has affected every University in the LSU system. There is a lot more stuff going on around this. It needs to happen.
Woodward fell into Mulkey, she wanted to come home and had a falling out with the new AD at Baylor. SW wanted the coach at Fla and allowed politics to stop him coming. So, JJ wasn't his first choice, and he lucked in to it. He has botched all the revenue generating hires and really upset people. Baseball and WBB don't pay the bills.
SW needs to go, If he isn't on the same page as the new president, no one would blink an eye with him being gone. It is how the University is structured and both need to have that understanding. If anything, Verge needs to be gone along with him. His FIL is a huge part of the problem at LSU.
