I think it was a poor use of wording meant for effect.

maybe, probably... But it doesn't make it wrong. All news paper headlines and TV headlines go for effect, we're use to that. It grabs attention

nonetheless, the effect isn't the story... Alleva and the meeting with coaches and what was said is the story. and you've now got multiple people (The Advocate, Chris Landry, YahooSports) all coorborating the same thing. Whether it's based on Landry's report or not, it doesn't matter, they're reporting it and everyone deserves to see and make up their own mind.

If you're getting hung up on strict word-for-word definition of "directing the offense" then IMO you're missing the forrest for the trees.

The alleged story is that Alleva is attending film sessions with O every Sunday and "directing the offense and defense from the background". Sounds exaggerated and a tad made up.

I think you're misinterpreting or overanalyzing? to a small extent. If Joe Alleva is telling the coaches who is in charge of the offense, how is that not "directing the offense" ? This seems pretty clear cut to me. Typically the HC makes those decisions in just about every program, not the AD.

in other words, the Head coach directs the offense and every area of the team, not the AD. If there was a meeting where Joe Alleva changed who is in charge of the offense, that is absolutely Alleva directing the offense... Hell, do you need him to show up on the sideline with a headset??

there are confirmed reports that Joe Alleva had a closed-door (aka behind the scenses) meeting and specifically changed the power structure of the offense and who is running it. This is not speculation or rumors anymore.
Depends what you mean by "directing the offense" If he had a meeting and told the coaches who's running the offense then Yes, he is absolutely directing the offense. Are you talking about calling plays?? I don't think that's what JPLSU or anyone is insinuating and you must be misinterpreting the reports and posts. Well, let's hope JoeAlleva isn't calling plays, but I don't think anyone ever asserted that to begin with.

and i have no opinion, because it appears to be fact that Joe Alleva had a closed door meeting with the coaches (O and 2 coordinators as reported by the Advocate) and changed the power structure. Call it what you want, but that's the story here and what Landry got multiple sources to confirm happenned.
He said "directing the management of the offense and defense" from behind the scenes (closed door meetings with the coaches). Have you not read or listened to the reports? ... That is EXACTLY what is being reported happenned! Call it what you want, management or directing or play calling or direction... it's all basically the same however one spins it:, An AD meddling in the coaching staff during the season. Highly unprecedented and is why Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez went on record with his comments about it and the LSU situation.
JPLSU has never contended anything in the context of Alleva and what went down in the meeting with coaches. He has shared articles from legit media outlets, including Chris Landry and Yahoo Sports who are both 100% legit.

You're right...I'm sure he really did not want another NC under his belt. That's got to be it.

Just like the police issuing a citation when somebody runs a stop sign in a school zone and plows in to a school bus. The police officer doen't say, "Oh, you have thirteen years with zeroe violations, I'm going to let you slide, Bro".

Yeah b/c this is exactly the same situation....
