Horrible news. Prayers sent.

Didn't happen to me....but I am making more than I did before, with way, way, way better hours.

Edit: Unless you count the sign on bonus....

I think the lack of zoning helps...especially with the redevelopment of older parts of town. The scale of privatized urban renewal there is amazing.

Many of the production builders throw together pretty crappy houses in some areas....like the far eastern suburbs, for example.

Prices are still very good there even for higher end homes.

My brother bought a beautiful place at one of the nicer parts of Fall Creek (north side) for a steal. There are great deals out there, and plenty of inventory.

Property taxes are very high, and commute times are terrible....but there is a good selection and a strong economy.

Houston seems to embrace sprawl and has a near-endless supply of flat land to develop. New highways are constantly built.
Ole Miss is pretty bad this year.

I think we can take the gumps....but expect terrible officials.

re: Accident...car insurance going up?

I claimed about $1100 in vandalism and my rates didn't change.

I know.....not an "accident". Either way, a 40% hike seems unreasonable if this is your first accident.

This is why you carry insurance.

re: Why is GM down so much recently?

Not the only decently performing company that has taken a hit recently.
Chick Fil A is the only fast food I can tolerate. Clean fast food places are a novelty.

Red Lobster's success is weird. BR has great local seafood places that have proven popular all over the area.
I would have to agree...put down less, save more.

No comparison except for Band of Brothers as a very close second.

It's always busy....I love that place.

Always thought they needed a more distinctive location.
The Ghost cities are pretty horrifying...mostly the scale of the problem.

How would this affect US Treasury securities held by China?
Either that or the auxiliary structure is taking in it's share? I'm sure the water is high enough to use the overbank structure too.

I'm not sure what ORCS are included in those capacities.
Only a couple of times....

Very close to walking out of "The Happening", but there wasn't much else to do in Augusta, GA at the time.
Scottie, thanks for your input. Please keep posting.

Hope the rumored 48.9 feet is bogus.
I don't think you understand.....people walking on the levee is the least of their problems.

I hope I'm wrong, but parts those levees will be topped if the latest projections are right.
The Advocate says BR is protected to 47.3 feet in some places. River is cresting at 48.9.

...48.9 feet....

Oh shite.

I read that there are parts of the levee at BR that is only 48 feet without sandbags. Even on the higher sections, it will be damn near the top.

Edit: lowest part of the levee in Baton Rouge is 47.3 feet. This is downtown near Florida street.

Projections went up from 47.5 to 48.9 feet even with the opening of Morganza?

I hope the projections are wrong. This means that Baton Rouge will flood.
shite....49.5 would top the levee in parts of Baton Rouge. I hope those projections are not taking into account opening of Morganza.

I'm really getting worried, now.

Anyone know the extent of the levee protection on the west side? How would New Roads, Port Allen, and Brusly hold?
I was told they were on natural levees, but lower than northern East Baton Rouge.
Morganza opening seems almost inevitable at this point.....

Already sand boils around Farr park in Baton Rouge.
