re: Men shopping with wives

My parents go shopping together all the time.

When I was growing up and they took us for seasonal wardrobe refreshes, Dad always came and actively participated. :dunno: I don't bring my husband when I want to go on my own and have little direction, but we certainly don't mind shopping together either.

Let's be honest it's not coffee - it's dessert

The one I got when I went was like 10-15 calories, but I haven't been back because I have all the stuff at home plus stuff they don't have.

Sugar free chocolate syrup lined cup (0cal) + Cool Brew cold brew coffee (5cal) + sugar free vanilla syrup (0cal) + sugar free brown sugar cinnamon syrup (0cal) + 1oz Fairlife Core Power Chocolate Protein Shake (12cal) as my "cream".

it would be stupid to blame the airline for that.

The vast majority of people with some vendetta against an airline are idiots who think they chose not to fly for the hell of it versus it actually being completely out of their control.

Interesting.

I didn't grow up with cats, and I don't smell the litter box unless the cat has just pooped and I smell the poop itself.

Our cat's litter box is in a really large, ventilated room and it gets cleaned 1-2x per day. I smelled it when we lived in our old house and the box was stored in a small room.
For sure.

Definitely think space is the biggest caveat here. I definitely can fully admit I have the luxury of loving closed concept because our house had a ton of square footage additions previous owners made over the 100 years it has been around.

Closed concept was a lot trickier in our previous home in the sense that our living room was too small to have people over to watch games.

One of my best friends converted her small home to be open, and I have a hard time imagining how small her kitchen had to have been prior.

I would own a lot less artwork I love if I didn't have all these walls it's all hanging on, so that is a nice plus.

Leaving the hood vent on the highest setting is my main annoyance, so I hear you on that part.

See, I have a massive copper vent hood that vents directly to outdoors, and it is LOUD and I use it the entire time I am cooking.

That alone would make the living room unusable for TV watching.

My husband normally sits in the kitchen with me while I cook dinner on weeknights (we don't have kids), so obviously the option is still there to be in the same room, but if it's say Masters weekend and I'm spending the entire day loudly cooking crawfish bisque with my music going, I imagine it would be super annoying for him.

EDIT: We don't have an outdoor kitchen, but it's future plans. That obviously changes your situation.

Our old house was ranch style and wasn't open concept, but the kitchen had a little sitting area/living area even though we also had a closed-off living room elsewhere. That was perfect.
Totally agree.

Since our dining room is on a different floor from the kitchen (don't ask, lol), we don't use it all the time, but we definitely use it for holidays, date nights, dinner parties, etc.

I will admit open floor plan is definitely easier for hosting casual hangs, and because of that we do most girls nights at my friend's open house, but it's just not what I'd want for day to day life.

It's nice also knowing I can host a brunch or whatever and nobody has to see the "behind the scenes" of it. I have a buffet table and chafing dishes up here, and I can leave the chaos of the kitchen totally unseen if I want.

In fairness, kitchen exits to the patio, so we host tons of get togethers where people access the kitchen. Kinda best of both worlds.

I may be in the minority...but I hate a formal dining room. Most underutilized room in the house.

You're not wrong about it seldom being used, but I absolutely love having one. Ever since I was a kid, I loved rooms that's main purpose was just being decorated nice and looked at.

Funny enough, I'm typing this from my formal dining room.

I also have a formal sitting room used for nothing, but staged with Victorian style antique furniture. Makes me so happy every time I walk through it.

I’ve always liked the typical floor plans of old antebellum homes.

Large wrap around porch, double front doors opening into a large hallway with a central staircase. Dining, parlor, living room, master bedroom off to both sides of main hallway. Kitchen in the back of the home. Small quiet study or office behind staircase with only one door and no foot traffic. Loft or main hall upstairs with bedrooms on each side

When I was a kid, my parents almost bought this home out in St. Francisville that would have needed a lot of work, but I was OBSESSED. It has an East staircase and a West staircase. Fireplace in every room.

I love that kind of shite. I remember being friends with a girl in elementary school who lived with her grandparents, and I was so hooked on the fact that they had a study. Something about rooms that aren't necessary just make me so happy.

It's probably why I hate open floor plan. Open floor plan usually doesn't have any "special" rooms. That's no fun.

What about it don’t you like? I like it, family can all be together in one general place whether someone’s doing homework, hanging out, or cooking.

This is exactly my dislike with it. Why would someone trying to watch TV on the sofa want to have to turn it on blasting volume because someone is in the kitchen running water or frying food?

Sometimes I opt to spend the entire day cooking something involved or cooking numerous things, which I do with the music going. Now nobody can use the living room because I'm blasting music and cooking.

IDK. It just wouldn't work for my household. Plus, I like to retreat to the living room once the kitchen is "closed for the night". Out of sight, out of mind.
I see both sides. I both love and hate that people that have my location.

There are times when it is extremely convenient, but then there are times I'm tempted to leave my phone behind so I don't catch judgment going grab a beer somewhere.
Can’t relate. I’m a woman and I’m psychotic about always sticking to plans. Even when those plans suck.
She speaks like a complete dummy and her voice is annoyingly raspy, but the more she kept going listing things, the more I was like "damn, that kinda sucks".

Which is kinda funny to think about when you consider how insane Easter brunch is for higher end spots. How there can be that much contrast, but obviously makes sense.

I haven't paid much attention to the meat itself, but I've always like the first half of the season better because they're way fattier.

By May/June, you're pulling out practically clean meat.

If you've already been a costco patron, brace yourself for disappointment.

Eh, it was $15. That's a beer and a tip. I'm not losing sleep over the value.

FWIW, we canceled Costco for the same reason Sam's will probably just be a one-year thing: too far, requires travel on the worst roads in BR traffic wise, and not really something we need for our household of 2.

But, $15. I'll give it a shot.
Is the sale over or something?

I just joined Sam's for the first time because they were doing a $15/year sale. I bought it like 5 days ago.
Turkey Tom from Jimmy John's. Hit the spot.

Oh good. I couldn’t find anything online. They’ve been setting up outside for a week!

Walkons has the entire parking lot closed off with fencing and tents. I believe I heard crawfish and live bands both tonight and Saturday? Seems strange to be tonight too. Maybe give them a call.

LSU baseball is home this weekend, too. Yikes.

Agree to disagree, I guess. Mansur's has not ever been inconsistent for me. I go twice monthly, and it is great every time.

Not saying LL has been for you, but I don't know why one has to be disparaged for the other.

Best restaurant in town. Don’t know why people go anywhere else for seafood. Jubans, Manseur’s, Ruffinos, Roberto’s etc are fine but take a back seat to LL.

I like LL a whole lot and have a reservation for this weekend, even. But all of their "fresh fish" offerings across the menu are drum every time I've gone.

Mansur's has Ora King Salmon, Triple Tail, Tile (sometimes), Redfish, Mahi Mahi, Swordfish, and often 1-2 others every single night of the week depending what they're rotating at the time.

They just don't have 10 different preparations of those fish like LL does. Both have their pros and cons IMO.
