Biopics in general are meh at best. 9 times out of 10 I’d have rather just watched a documentary on the artist.

The problem with the vast majority of biopics is the conflict. A Complete Unknown the conflict was he wanted to go electric and the folk scene didn't want that. From here in the future not much of a conflict I know who Dylan is so it worked our for him. This Springsteen one he was struggling with depression and wanted to put out this album. Again, in the future I know how it worked out.

I guess you could make a biopic about an unknown artist and I can wonder how the conflict goes but usually that's not the kind they make anymore.
I set the YouTube DVR thing for The Hot Rock. It's weirdly been very hard to watch for several years. I think there's a Blu-ray that's like $100 or more on eBay.

I saw it Friday and really liked it. I think JAW was very good but he doesn't disappear into the role or anything and he does his own singing. I am a Bruce fan and a Nebraska fan and read the book last week. I'm not sure the appeal for a non Bruce fan and it's not a typical jukebox musical, outside of Born to Run and Born in the USA it's basically all songs from Nebraska.

I did like it better than A Complete Unknown but think Chalamet was a better Dylan than JAW was Bruce.

Crime 101 trailer in theaters February

Stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro and Nick Nolte.

Looks promising.

Graham Greene, Melissa Leo, Michael Mando

Tulsa drug cop takes on the cartel after his son gets hooked.
It's a 24 hour film that has mostly only been shown in museums. It's a montage of scenes from films and tv shows that show clocks or timepieces. It is synced to whatever time it's being shown. So when it's 9:15 when you are watching it the clocks on the screen are at 9:15 etc.

Here's a CBS Sunday Morning feature about it.

Here's a 10 minute version set to your timezone.

I've been looking forward to this one for a while. I'm not sure if it will also be vod or not. Kurosawa directed Cure and Pulse (not the American remake) and Tokyo Sonata.

Criterion should have a week long trial and currently has a ton of the Asian action movies that are just becoming available: The Killer, Hard Boiled, A Better Tomorrow, City on Fire etc. Plus several horror movies since it's that time of the year.

Play Dirty on Amazon Prime

I haven't watched it but it's on Prime today. It's the first Shane Black movie in 7 years. Stars Mark Wahlberg, Lakeith Stanfield and Rosa Salazar based sort of on the Donald Westlake Parker books (it's the character but not based on a book). It was supposed to star Robert Downey Jr but he dropped out.

I feel like there's no buzz for this at all. I like Black and I like the Parker books I've read so I'll probably give it a shot.

I just finished 80s Ghosts. I was disappointed. I think I kept expecting something bigger and it never happened.

I'm not reading all the whatever is going on in this thread but holy shite that rocked. I love PTA and I had no idea he had some of this in his bag. The car chase scenes were incredible. The early one felt like The French Connection and the later one felt like Bullit.

I've heard people reference The Searchers which I've never seen so I'm planning on knocking it out this weekend. Can't wait to see One Battle again. Leo is great, Benecio is great curious to see the Oscar nominations but I'm assuming at least one of those 2, movie and director.

Looks like it’s also a KindleUnlimited right now, so picking it up.

Let me know how you like it whenever you get to it.
I'm not sure that they are re-reads but I really liked Wylding Hall and John Darnielle (lead singer/songwriter of The Mountain Goats) has written a few books that fit the vibe imo.

Wylding Hall is an oral history of a 70s era band that went to this English manor to record what became a legendary album. The lead singer disappeared before they left the manor and 30ish years later the band is meeting with a reporter to do an oral history.
Bump. Dropped today and I didn't feel like making a new post. Looks good imo
Really good first episode. Can't wait for more.
Very in on this. The early talk I've heard has been very positive.
