re: DIY Roof Wash

I used approx 50/50 bleach and water with about 80z of blue Dawn as a redneck surfactant to help keep it on the roof while it did it's thing. I saw a little improvement in appearance but not enough to notice if you weren't looking for it.
DIY Roof Wash

Looking for suggestions for a DIY roof wash for an asphalt shingle roof. I tried the bleach/dawn/water mixture but didn't see too much result. Has anyone tried an approach that worked for them?

I’ve had a SunJoe for several years. No issues at all. Highly recommend.
re: What is your favorite memory from an Alabama LSU game? (Non 2019)
Posted by ed3303 on 10/26/22 at 10:07 pm
1993. No one gave LSU a chance. Bama was defending national champs. LSU had Curley and was 3-5. One paper said that LSU would win "when pigs fly"
I believe LSU won 17-14.
I watched with my mom from her hospital room while she was in the last few weeks of her cancer battle. She loved LSU football and even as weak and sick as she was, she would grin and raise her arms after a big play. One of my all time favorite LSU games, 'bama or otherwise.

Is McAfee now a regular on Gameday?

re: Why not bring Mike back on the field before games?
Posted by ed3303 on 8/24/22 at 7:52 pm
Yep, it used to be cool. So was smoking cigarettes, barfights and driving after a few drinks. It's crazy how some people seem to outgrow foolish antiquated ideas and others stupidly cling to them.
re: LSU/College in the 80s

Late 80's, Tigerland was still safe and Tiger Plaza was probably the nicest apt complex in town. Drinking age was 18 and Tiger Burger had great burgers. Brewbachers was a rare treat because we were broke and meal plans kept us from starving. Parents didn't know what we were doing on day to day basis and could only pray that we were being smart and safe. You had to register for classes in person at the field house by getting your cards punched and tailgating was still family friendly in the shadow of Tiger Stadium. Cortana Mall was still popular and traffic was manageable. Murphy's, Mr Gatti's, Silver Moon. Walk-On's was a cow pasture and the original "Box" was still rocking. Everybody rode the shuttle from Tigerland to class and the only ATM that I can remember was at the student union.
re: 20 years of 401k and now this?
Posted by ed3303 on 6/20/22 at 8:55 pm
You said that too few people took advantage of their 401k offerings. Can you imagine if social security was elective and not mandatory?? The educated few would participate, the shiny toy crowd would not (just like their 401k's) and they would be absolutely destitute when too old to work. As bad as the SS system is, thank God it exists for those who fail to plan.
re: Why can't LSU get bats that dont clash with team uniforms?

Wow, clashing bats??

re: Suggestions for two pond problems

And I am planting cypress around my pond. Funny how everyone has their own thing.
For the weeds, purchase a trimmer head with the 3 metal blades that swing freely back and forth. You can probably find one that is compatible with your trimmer. It does a great job and turns the backbreaking chore into a simple pain in the arse.

I love them. One of the few insurance company commercials that are watchable.

re: Waterproof vinyl plank flooring - DIY
Posted by ed3303 on 5/25/22 at 9:21 pm
Make SURE your subfloor is clean and level.
Spend 20.00 on installation kit with spacers and block.
Use the block to tap each plank where the planks will lock together.
All in all it is very easy and the job goes quickly.

re: Possibly getting away from neighborhood life

I bought a similar albeit smaller place (4 acres) with pond, pool, shop etc. I have absolutely loved having the space and the therapy that working outside provides. Like you, my pond is older and the dam is now leaking and in need of repair in order to keep the pond at full stage. I don't have any real advice other than to say the lifestyle is great if you have the want-to to maintain a larger property. In my opinion it is well worth the efforts. Good luck!
re: Suggestions For New Outdoor Grill

Santa brought me a Pit Boss and I love it. Before the pellet grill, I never had the time, skill or patience for brisket, ribs, etc, but this thing does an amazing job and is almost foolproof. Highly recommended!

re: New Grandpa here. What can I do to start a sound college savings plan for my little guy?
Posted by ed3303 on 5/17/22 at 10:43 pm
Congratulations! Nothing better than grands! I would suggest taking a look at 529 plans. You can dollar cost average each month which seems to work best for most.

Great memories there in the late 80's early 90's. We used to eat at TigerBurger damn near every night because it was 50 feet from our front door and he would take our worthless checks. He did eventually cut us off...
Sports, Freds, The Tiger, Fountainhead Apt Kegs on Thursdays.
I hope the kids today are able to have some of the fun that we had.
