I'd say the chances are pretty good being that ESPN and the NYT ran with the story. They must feel good about their sources. If nothing comes of it, they have some major explaining to do....
Mark Barron was one of the most unnoticed players on Bama's team last year, and he was my favorite. He was UNDOUBTEDLY the 2nd best player on last year's Defense. If it wasn't for McClain's leadership, I would have Barron ranked above McClain based on talent.
I always though Barron...

Maybe we're just catching up on the breaks we're due after all the things that could go wrong did go wrong. What are the chances of there being a rupture in the pipe precisely at a point where there's a cavity big enough to hold enough oil to hold the pressure down?...
Interesting that they would halt drilling to try this new capping method, especially if there was ANY chance of another blowout. Why not just use the top-hat until the relief well is finished?...

It's all in who you believe in which one was worse, too. Using an estimate of 40,000 barrels/day for the Deepwater Horizon spill, Ixtoc's 3,000,000 barrels will be be passed this week. Some of it is being collected, but there's still at least a month to go....

And then there was 20. 20 feet from the bore, and only 900 feet more to drill vertically. They're still saying August, but I remember reading somewhere a week or so ago that they were 11 days ahead of schedule.
I hope this is true.
Weeks ago, when they showed one of the ROVs taking inclinometer readings, the cameras clearly showed the BOP inclined in the direction of the bent riser. I'd imagine that much stress would bend most anything....

I believe that the BOP was pulled over about 10 degrees by the weight of the rig when it went down. It's been that way since the beginning....

1st tropical storm on the way?

Probably the first of many if NOAA's forecast is right about this being one of the most active storm seasons ever. A lot of guesswork's involved, but some models have it moving right over the slick area. http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-06-22/tropical-storm-may-threaten-bp-s-cleanup-spread-o...

Within 200 ft of the well bore but still has a ways to go downward. " * As of June 18, the first well had been drilled to 10,677 feet (3,254 metres), or 2 miles (3.2 km), beneath the seabed. The second well had reached 4,662 feet (1,421 metres), or eight-tenths of a mile (1 km). * The first w...

re: Is the Integrity of the Well Failing?

Not a pro here by any means, but why wouldn't they be able to seal it even if the casing is blown out, as long as there's not something the other side of cataclysmic damage way down there. I'm not buying there being that much damage for an entire 2 miles worth of pipe, and barring a Grand Canyon siz...
