re: OFFICIAL SUGAR BOWL THREAD: UT 31 BAMMER 17

Wow! How torn am I?? On the one hand, I picked BAMA in my pool, and had to give up ten (10!) points to get them, so I'm taking a bath on this game.:banghead:
Then again, Saban is being humiliated.:nana:
Then again, he's dragging the whole fricking SEC down with him!! Now there will no be shutting those MAC, WAC, SMAC, and TRAC conference potato heads up!! :spank:
But, a whole bunch of thugs are really learning some humility tonight :dude:
I tell you I just can't decide: Am I happy? or not?
What a dilemma :geauxtigers:

Won't RS be playing in that Under Armor High School superstar game on Monday? That would be worth watching, I'm thinking.
Or at least TIVO'ing for later viewing.

I'm afraid for next year because of losing LT, LG, C on offense!! That was three positions (when Helms was healthy) that we simply didn't have to worry about before. And we ran left quite a bit with them there.
Anybody comfortable with their backups? Anyone? Bueller?

Let's see, Matt Mauck/Matt Flynn, either from Louisiana? Either big-time athletic QB's? Either one win BCS championships?
I don't know, but I'm thinking every player we grab from UT, OU, FLA, GA, AL or even ARK is a huge victory for LSU.

Yes, hindsight is obviously 20/20, but don't we all (even GG) think that Crowton could have dumbed down his multi-scheme just a little and then added to it as we went along the season?
But of course, standing there in August, Jumpin jehosaphat Lee hadn't thrown a bunch of pic-6's yet.

10-4 Those crawling up USC butt comments were ALL about the money.
Haven't you ever noticed over the season how the games ESPN is covering (South Montana vs Delaware State: Game of the Century!!!) are always the best games, played by the best teams, who obviously got the shaft at some point?
It's a bizness, never forget, and ESPN won't be happy until they pry the SEC from CBS and even Notre Dame from NBC.
But I do enjoy watching/listening to Herbstreet screw up. He changes his mind more than Bill Clinton!

Saban AP Coach of the Year

Did I miss the thread on this?
If no, despite the fact that Nick really accomplished a lot (just by keeping his players out of the pokey) and really kicked arse and took names...
When I first read the story, all I could think was "Hmmm, guess integrity is not a pre-requisite for greatness in college coaching."
Ok, Saban-lovers, let me have it.

Didn't some really smart guy (certainly smarter than me) define insanity as doing the same thing over and over again the same way, but expecting a different outcome each time?

I'd play contain with my defensive line, tight coverage with the OLB's and CB's on the OUTSIDE and play very loose in the middle, to make sure he threw it there.
Then I'd wait to see which Safety or ILB got to make the catch.
Dammit! :banghead:

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING would make me happier than for Lee to find himself and start making the connection between smart decisions and success on the field.
But until that happens, he's throwing an average of almost two interceptions per game, with about a 50/50 chance that every pic he throws will end up being a TD either right away or within four downs.
AND from a Gary Crowton offense where he's averaging around 28 throws a game (I'm giving him credit for 8 full games to allow for the time Hatch played) he's only averaging about 180 yards of passing offense.
That's just no bueno. So, let's all hope really hard that he gets it together before it's too late for him. :dude:

Got the gore down enough to watch the game a couple of times last night (HD TIVO is very cool) and in retrospect a couple of things jumped out at me:
1. First time in a while I saw the DT's hold their ground. Plus Riley and the other LB's really stayed home when there was a lot of temptation to bite.
2. Patrick Peterson is the best 18 year old football player I've ever seen. His technique on Jones was very strong when he was covering him and when not, he was in the right place basically all the time. All American material, IMHO.
3. LSU's offensive line run blocks like nobody's business in that game. I'm seeing Bama DT's four, five, six yards off the ball or just getting snowed under.
4. I saw maybe four pass plays where I'm pretty sure the receiver was either running the wrong route, or last track of his depth. That plus a couple of drops I can blame on somebody other than JJLee.
5. Lee really did make some horrible mistakes, and despite one really sweet pass to Byrd (1st TD) I could not call that a multi-faceted loss. Sorry. on the 21 passes he threw that were incomplete (13-34-4), I give the O line credit for 1 (blocked pocket backwards), the receivers credit for 4 (none of the pics), coaches for 2 (I'm assuming they called the plays I saw against the WORST defensive alignment possible for that pass) and that leaves 14 really bad, out of his mind, poor execution plays out of 34 times when he threw the ball (hope my math holds up).
A lot can happen in 14 plays, good and bad. This time it was pretty bad.

To all you Bama fans, You're Welcome!
But, don't get you're hopes up, we ain't likely to extend the courtesy to the field again by giving you the ball four times just for the fun of it like we did this year.
At least I hope the hell not!!! :banghead:

You guys are amazing! I can't get an "Amen" to the idea that "PIC6 LEE" might not be the answer to LSU's quarterback problems, but you bitch to high heaven when CBS wants to show the entire USA how good SEC football can be!!
Hell, by the end of last season, I thought even Verne Lundquist was turning into an LSU fan!!

For all of you who continue to make excuses for my buddy JJLee, whom I'm sure is a great kid with excellent potential, I can't unburn this out of my head:
13-34-4
And so I'm with Schlabach.

Yep, I don't think Saban & Co will be able to hold off FLa. Too much size, speed, and whaddya know, a QB that knows his colors!
