Weather for Saturday night?
Posted by Awlunz Tiger on 10/24/25 at 4:30 pm
I am seeing several different forecasts for Saturday with most calling for scattered and some heavy thunderstorms beginning Saturday afternoon. I am not sure that is unlike a lot of Saturdays' I've experienced over many seasons the past 20 years. But, seems just the "threat" of such weather will keep the crowd size down!
It is a shame if this is the case as this is really one game where we need TS to be loud...but, for many this is reason to sit this one out!

Don't kid yourself or let stats have you think otherwise!
Vandy is good, has an intelligent mobile QB that LSU has struggled with in the past!
They will be pumped and until LSU can show they can run and move the ball, Vandy will be in the game!
Our D will have to continue to show up and shut the Vandy QB down.
We will have to run the ball and Nuss willl have to protect the ball.
This is anyone's game IMHO!!!

Well, some of the bright spots last night...

I am not going to dwell on the negative, too many posts about that already on the Rant! But, 5-1, top ten team with a defense that keeps us in every game.
But, going forward, I will say Trey Dez Green has emerged as a nightmare for any opposing secondary to cover. It's almost unfair. Just need to find more ways to get him the ball.
Running game better and Nuss pulled the ball and ran when he needed. All positives.
The defense except for the long run did well. Sellars is a great athlete but kep t him mostly in check. They need to do that against Vandy next week.
So, no question, LSU has a lot to improve on and especially the OL and QB reads, but today, I still like our position at this point in the season as this morning we could be like OU

LSU has to take care of business moving foward and have every opportunity to do so!

Having already played two teams ranked in the top ten (although we can now remove Clemson for SOS), and have 3 more top ten and another top 20 team on the road, no doubt about SOS. They can make a statement with a few wins
In the meantime, even if ND wins out, they play no team in the top 25 the remainder of the season as USC is not ranked. Same goes for Penn State...two losses for these teams at this time should be enough to have them sit for the playoffs!
IF, and a big IF, LSU can develop a run game and play complimentary football with the defense, they can make it to the playoffs. But, it is a tough road ahead with road games at Vandy, Bama and OU!

We;re ranked 4th in the country...Have a elite defense. We have an offense that punted TWICE on the evening! A backup QB who is capable!
We covered the spread EASILY in a game we were supposed to do so!
And yet, we have fans who want us to win with and dominant with a different game plan!
Just win BABY!
The SLU win was what we needed. Defense dominated! Offense had its way! Where is it written we have to win with a certain percentage of run yardage!
Nuss was on the mark and excelled! Van Buren showed no let up!
WTH!!! This was not an ugly win!! It was domination as we expected!
Yet, posts to the doom and gloom really surprise me...
JUST WIN BABY!!
Wake up folks! There is no set formula for success!! You succeed based on how you use your resources!!
At the end of the day, they will not ask how many running yards you had per game, but Won-Loss numbers!
We keep this up and we'll be in the playoffs and that is a new season!
Downvote if you desire!!

College Gameday...

I used to love to watch GameDay and loved it when they were at TS! I would attend in person
I actually liked Corso for entertainment...an ICON with the headgear!!
I actually think Saban provides very good analysis, as he knows what he is talking about. But, I can't watch Pat McAfee any more. I know he is there because perhaps he can bring his fan base to Gameday. But perhaps this is more of a generational thing...his act is not for me.
So, I have other time on my hand for now until noon kickoffs or may turn on SEC Nation.

watch Florida compete with Miami this week, and I honestly think Miami on upset alert!
Gators are talented and defense will keep them in the game.
Gators will play loose....The coaching is suspect, but I think this is one game that they will show up!
Intra-state rivalry, schools hate each other, one particularly hungry!
Again, one man's humble opinion!

So
feels differently....still showing a lot of love!
We have a lot of work to do on offense, but as said before, we need just enough offense to compliment an elite defense!!

What happened to accepting "ugly wins!"
I can remember just a few years ago, we would take a "W" regardless!
Not sugarcoating the fact our offense didn't perform well last night!
But, this is the same team that went into Clemson and pulled off a "W" to get us to 3-0 and most likely 4-0 before Ole Miss!!
For those of you old enough to remember, were you upset about the "Blue Grass Miracle" where we won on a fluke play? I can provide other examples of ugly wins, and no body can even remember those for now, given the whole body of work that year!!
Wake up! We're in the top 4, have a defense that is elite and as a team, won ugly, but won! Do you think the playoff committee in December will say LSU shouldn't be considered because of style points!
No one will give a crap!!
We beat a talented SEC team who had nothing to lose playing their asses off!!
Nothing is easy in the SEC! Our offense will improve to help the defense...the last few years, its been the opposite!
Defense wins championships!! We get a little help from the offense and we're good to go!
So, I'll take the "W" for now!

We're still 3-0 and soon to be 4-0 for the first time in years.
We have an elite defense that will keep us in every game.
I also think it good news that now the media is talking trash about LSU because of the offense, and no doubt we have some issues there.
So, a lot to clean up on offense.
But, given the above, that only means we don't get too much love for now and have less "rat poison" to be concerned about.
I do think the offense will come around enough to have us play complimentary football and peak during the season.
So, one man's opinion, but I kind of like the position of not being hyped this early in the season.....it helps with focus.

I'm an old timer and lived and died by LSU football outcomes in the 60's and early 70's!

At that time, the LSU Defense was the best in the nation and I remember the pundits talking about how undersized, yet quick, the LSU Defense was! The 1970 defense was incredible! In a time where passing game innovation was stilll being developed, you had to run the ball..LSU excelled...They held opponents to around 50 yards a game....I went to every game knowing we could win based on our defense. The fans loved the defense. They were known as a swarming defense with gang tackling!
I saw that Saturday night....we are not underized now, but damn, the first sack by Woodard, the play of Weeks, and Perkins being shot out of a cannon on the last of Clemson's offensive series gave me flashbacks of LSU dominance on defnese!
Offense sells the seats, but defense wins championships, and what I saw on Saturday, was a flashback to LSU dominance in defense...I love it

Don't buy in to the hype..."RAT POISON!" Glad to hear BK mentioned in on Finebaum show.
Posted by Awlunz Tiger on 9/1/25 at 3:53 pm
Last week all we heard was how great Arch Manning will be, a shoe-in for the Heisman! How wonderful the culture of the BAMA team was this pre-season and the great expecations for Bama! How FSU won't compete and that BK will be schooled at Clemson by the great DABO and will be on the hot-seat!
Now, the same pundits say Bama is lethargic, Arch is over-hyped, Clemson over-rated and LSU now the best team in the country.
Well, that is the "rat poison" that Saban warned against and for now, no doubt LSU surprised everyone, but now they are the HUNTED.
BK's big challenge for now is keeping them focused and reminding them all it takes is one game to not come prepared and your margin of errror is reduced for the playoffs!
So, LSU is much improved, but its a long season and the big challenge for now for LSU is to NOT read the press clippings!

When you have a defense that played like LSU did last night, you can do that. BTW, those plays were working all night!
Clemson hype! Love it!
Posted by Awlunz Tiger on 8/23/25 at 12:26 pm
Now that football season has offically begun, the Clemson hype is everywhere!
Cade as the Heisman frontfunner, the defense nothing but 1st Round picks, a sure bet for ACC title, and a top spot in the playoffs!
Several pundits predict them as National Champs this year.
All the above may be true and may come true. But, as far as the psychological aspects of the game, I hope they are listening to the hype
In this case, LSU is the hunter not the hunted...I like that edge at least!
All we need to do is to sprinkle a little doubt in this team by jumping on them, and let's see how they handle it.
SO, yes, Clemson is talented, no doubt...can they live up to their billing?
We'll soon find out

Clemson has this circled as their NC game...Yet, LSU faces this challenge every week in the ACC.
So, Clemson will be very up for this game and has the talent. But, if they were in the SEC, they would face this challenge 8 times a year.
All I am saying is Clemson can circel this game and win, and then close their eyes for the rest of the season and coast to the playoffs!!
ACC is weak as hell

I now understand the love for Clemson and why they are so highly rated!
I did not know Clemson returns over 80% of its offensive production from last year. This was all over ESPN last niight!
OK, in addition, they now have many 1st rounders.
But, I also realize they play in the ACC which will inflate any numbers.
So, it will be a hard game for LSU to win, at Clemson at night....but one that is winnable with our talent.
Hopeful that Nuss and the team really focus to bring this one home.
But, playing at Clemson at night woudl be a tough challenge!
For the record, I think LSU if they were in the ACC could run the table for ACC play..Just one man's humble opinion

I have given up on "reading the tea leaves" from practice reports.

Maybe its my age, but to me, it seems that for many years, we hear about how great one side of the ball will be in fall pratice, how they dominate the other, only to believe this will translate to onfield performance in the Fall, only to be disappointed. The one case where that was not true, was the Burrow fall camp prior to the NC run.
But, I am reading the same things you are today,,,...problems on the OL, inability to run, too many hiccups, defense dominant. But, that does not mean our O will be less than average or the defense is tremendous.
I think these reports are like the stock market. It is not wise to invest based on a few days of ups and downs. Tomorrow we may hear the Off gets the best of the D. Its also like stopping a movie on one scene and trying to predict the ending.
So, for now, I am at a stage that I will await any judgement until the first game or two to really see how far this team has come and how good they will be. Practice reports to me are interesting to read, and are second hand reports from individuals letting us know what they see. But, coaches may have a different take and perhaps its good we know now what is NOT working.
So, just sayiing I enjoy the perspectives from camp from media...but, they wont' ruin my day just yet

I'm "bullish" on the Tigers for 2025.
What''s to like?
1) Nuss will only get better and damn good now
2) Even without Taylor, Lacey or Daniels, receivers came to play last night.
Hilton and Green stepped up big time last night. Anderson had some drops, but had many drive saving plays 2nd half. With the portal transfers, what's not to like!
3) OL...not great on the run, but with three RF starters, no sacks! Portal will help
4) LBers: Keys will be a star. With the Weeks brothers, Perkins and an incredible freshman haul, all positives here
5) DL: Have some work to do here, but with transfers and freshman coming in, will hold therr own! Speed rushers all over the field!
6) DB: this will be the biggest question for next year, but I like who is coming in and who returns. They will only get better. Pickens will help immediately. Need to address safety
Overall, I think we underestimate what a solid win does at season's end to get momentum for the next year. Would you rather be Bama :)
So I think there are more positives now after the bowl game, after the transfer haul, and after the recruiting haul..
I think this team will be solid for next year...just need to get over the 1st game issues
