re: Does anyone buy that Forrest was the father of Jenny's son?
Posted by SanchoTheGr8t on 5/13/14 at 4:56 am
Definitely not his son. Despite what others have said in the thread, I think that Forrest was just as important to Jenny as she was to him. Growing up, Forrest was the only genuinely kind person she interacted with, for a while the only source of security in her hellish life. It makes sense to me that if she got pregnant from some random drugged-out encounter, which she probably didn't even remember, that she would name her son after the one man who loved her for who she truly was. In her newborn son she saw the innocence and simplicity of life that she once sought out from Forrest Sr. After she contracted AIDS, Forrest Jr. was the only thing that truly mattered to her, and Forrest being one of if not the most kind, loving, world-traveled, and genuinely good-hearted man on the planet, what better option did Jenny have?
Sure for most of her adult life she was a selfish crack-whore, but she came from a vile molesting household, and the 60's being the 60's I can't really blame her for jumping into the deep end of drugs. In the end, she knew little Forrest would have the best chance of succeeding in the care of Forrest Forrest Gump and his vast wealth, though he would have most likely reared Jenny's child regardless of the patronage.
As for Dottie and Kit, I'm on the Dottie/Droppie side of the argument. Dottie is the true alpha of the movie. She's the elder daughter, married to a decorated soldier, the maternal figure of the team, and the best player in the League. Kit is the runt of her group wherever she goes with a serious napoleon complex who has lived in her big sister's shadow her entire life. Kit's brash demeanor is a constant cry for attention, and her competitiveness is her trying to prove herself equal to Dottie. Dottie was the true wheat, Kit the chaff. Hell, Kit only got into the league because Dottie agreed to go, and Dottie only agreed to go so Kit could get a chance. Though Kit hated it, having Dottie around fueled her anger and her drive to better her perfect sister. Once Bob got back from the war and Kit was transferred, Dottie had no real reason to finish, save for her love for the team. The game itself didn't matter to her anymore; So when Kit finally had her chance to prove herself worthy of her sister, Dottie (at least subconsciously)dropped the ball. Dottie goes on to kick life's arse, Kit gets to finally be in the spotlight.

Best thread on TD
Totally agree. I come straight to this thread when I get online in the morning.
So what does everyone think about Quaithe and her intentions? So far she's been the most accurate with prophecies and has only given Dany good advice, but doesn't seem to want anything in return. She just seems a little too good to be true.
She is called a Shadowbinder and is from Asshai, so naturally I think of R'hollor, but she hasn't said word one about the red god or shown any abilities of a Red Priest/ess (though they present a new power nearly every time we see one).
Damn this thread. I need to be studying right now.

ASOIAF: The Stallion Who Mounts The World
Posted by SanchoTheGr8t on 7/8/12 at 3:46 pm
I just finished re-reading the series, and with all of the prophecies, I started thinking about TSWMTW. With Rhaego dying this could be a prophecy changed, like Melissandre has talked about, or just misunderstood. My question though, could Dany herself be the Stallion?
From AGOT :
There's not much to go on from the prophecy itself, but what stands out to me is the first and line, "As swift as the wind he rides". This could be a hint about riding dragons. Then there's the line "Fierce as a storm this prince will be." We all know Dany's moniker is Stormborn. As for her uniting all khalasars, that remains to be seen. We left Dany in ADWD standing next to Drogon staring down Khal Jhogo with some of his warriors. Drogo's khal dispersed when Drogo died, but what will happen when the dothraki see dragons descending on them? "The dothraki follow only the strong"
Now, what really got me thinking about her being the Stallion is what Mirri Maez Duur told her after Rhaego died.
Dany is now in the middle of burning and trampling Essos, and we know Victarion is on his way to Mereen to bring her to Westeros. I'm sure once the "milk men in their stone tents" hear of her coming they will surely tremble.
I know I'm reaching here, but I've read so many theories that I figure one more won't hurt. Please George, finish Winds of Winter soon.

"As swift as the wind he rides, and behind him his khalasar covers the earth, men without number, with arakhs shining in their hands like blades of razor grass. Fierce as a storm this prince will be. His enemies will tremble before him, and their wives will weep tears of blood and rend their flesh in grief. The bells in his hair will sing his coming, and the milk men in the stone tents will fear his name." The old woman trembled and looked at Dany almost as if she were afraid. "The prince is riding, and he shall be the stallion who mounts the world."

I really liked this movie when I first saw it, mainly for the discussion my friends and I had afterwards, trying to piece everything together. After I watched it again, though, it lost me. It just seemed like Guy Ritchie tried too hard and made an incomplete movie.
