Early season is when you'd want to do it to ensure success, and basically everyone runs huge groups early season, especially now that its a shorter early season than previously I think. Would not recommend that.
Go with someone known in Gueydan area and have the whole season to choose from, subject to their openings.
*Edit to also rec Top Gun guide service in north La, good people, as an alternative to Gueydan but still in state.

Was on another SW plane that left the gate also going to Florida (Lauderdale) shortly after that flight left for Orlando.
Can confirm that there was an obviously nasty line of storms in the path of both flights, and our flight dipped south of the line, but the Orlando flight just went straight through it.
Come to find out, a friend was on that flight, and described the horror of it I hope to never experience. From what I saw alone, it seemed awfully wreckless to take that route. Could have easily gone north or south to get around.
re: London Heathrow airport shuts down due to fire

Was in London with plans to fly back on the BA non-stop to MSY when we woke up to this news Friday. Ended up re-booking for Sat AM out of Newcastle via Amsterdam without issue.
See a lot of hating on London in this thread, but can tell you my wife and I found a whole lot of good there, the opposite of which was reality-checked when we got back to Atlanta then MSY.
While we enjoy a few liberties more, maybe?, somewhere along the way we got sloppy AF, apathetic about how we treat each other or our jobs, and now have....what we have. Yes it's home, but man, get out and see some other places sometime.

It's been a good while but I've launched a 21 ft bay boat there without issue, probably normal water level and from my recollection the overall water height of that section stays fairly consistent. Grew up out there as a kid.......

Do a tour in the Sian Ka'an area, and also the cenote snorkeling....phenomenal.
re: How was your duck season?
Posted by Tigah D on 1/30/25 at 10:11 am
Better than last year, but not great. Had some good hunts here and there.
Big picture, though, very few grays down and a whole lot being killed in ARK and MO. Some long time SW La clubs even stopped doing hunts for a bit, reportedly....pretty scary.

re: Drip hot and cold? What’s your strategy?
Posted by Tigah D on 1/23/25 at 12:28 pm
Exterior wall kitchen sink, dripped the cold only (mistake 1), cabinet doors were closed (mistake 2) for Tues night this week.
Woke up to no issues throughout the house other than no hot water flow at kitchen sink.....bc frozen in the wall there or somewhere nearby. Pretty quickly remedied with hair dryer on low facing the wall space in there.
Lesson learned: open cabinet and drip both hot and cold next time, I suppose.

This is super helpful. I use it for ducks pretty much exclusively and I hunt a good amount - salt marsh, fields, timber, sloughs. Not unusual to get rained on or for the gun to get all sorts of shite on it. If gas guns are tougher with that then that narrows things down for me a good bit.
Then inertia guns are your friend, much easier to manage hunt in and hunt out, after rain, etc. Lot less moving parts.
My M2s have been bulletproof.

Had beretta Xtrema2 and A400 Xtreme, put down to try an M2 and never went back, now have one in 12g and 20g, and 11 seasons in on the 12g.
If you only duck hunt a little bit but also shoot clays and doves with same gun, the Beretta gas guns are great. But if you're going to duck hunt a lot in all sorts of weather, the inertia guns are the way to go, lot less parts to clean up after a rain hunt, lot less cleaning needed.

^^ agreed, but can't recall why we went back to 2 from the 3 a few years back.
Note as far as splits, proposed to go back to 2 splits for WZ in the 2025-2026 (next) season. This 3 split nonsense has to go, we should be hunting this weekend.

Yeah I hunt on holly beach and we do our best killing during the first 3 weeks. After that it kinda falls off. Still have good days here and there but the first split it is normally loaded for us. Late season the birds are smart and all stack up in pot holes and want nothing to do with a decoy or a call.
This. LDWF's bag checks for many many years have said marsh/coastal hunters do the vast majority of their killing the first few weeks of the season, then steadily tapers from there. "We want to hunt late"....but the bag checks say those who are going aren't killing.
So there's always a (loud) few that want to hunt in February, but because we can't, want every minute of Jan 31, regardless of what day of the week that might be (see this season's WZ schedule closing on a Friday).
1.) By first to second week of January, if you haven't gotten birds showing up to you, it's highly unlikely you'll suddenly see them leading up to Jan 31.
2.) By that late in the season, marsh birds are slick and only want small potholes, and for tidal marsh hunters, you're likely dealing with mud flats. Nice !
re: Gueydan Duck/Goose update
Posted by Tigah D on 12/3/24 at 2:01 pm
Hunted Avoyelles Parish ag land Saturday and had new geese, both specks and snows, streaming in from the north all morning so things should pick up on the speck hunting in Gueydan soon.
re: 2 week in duck reports
Posted by Tigah D on 11/19/24 at 11:39 am
Killing a few in outer delacroix and Hopedale public stuff, seems overall that things are just 2-3+ weeks behind as far as temps and of course migration. More blue wings than usual, less grays so far. Saw some nice wads of new birds arriving Friday afternoon by the Shell Beach camp high and rolling.
I think this front coupled with more next week will help get things in motion.

re: Power pole or minn kota raptor for anchor?
Posted by Tigah D on 11/5/24 at 8:28 am
My raptors also came with two remotes (but it's a pair so maybe that's why?). Like them a lot so far.
Had power poles in both single and double configurations in the past and largely had good luck with the Blades. Customer service was great when I needed a new motherboard.
Probably can't go wrong with either right now.

TB's are popular, and expensive, for a reason. They're friggin legit. 2 years on my Gen 2 TB and loving it.

Yea it's already swapped back to florida, its been flip-flopping for days and days with nothing to go on. It's fun to watch, sorta, so long as you know that none of the runs mean jack at this point with no actual storm formation.
