re: Any Sturgill Simpson fans here?

If you like Sturgill, check out Tyler Childers, who put out a solid album this year.

This song probably gets my vote for song of the year:

Tyler Childers Feathered Indians (YouTube)

1) Go make the commute from your office to where you're talking about living to see if you can handle it every day
2) Stay North of 290 and south of 183
3) Downtown is a fun option if you're into that
4) West Campus is mostly UT student housing
5) Hyde Park has some gems for rent if you get lucky; some of these may just have signs in yards and not be advertised online
6) Going south has some great options
7) Neighborhoods to look at: Tarrytown, Hyde Park, Mueller, Clarksville, Barton Hills, South Congress, Rosedale, North Loop, Travis Heights ...

I just started listening to this if I like it I'll try to come back and give you credit.

Really like Brother Ali. Haven't heard this.

I hope you like it! I'm a big Brother Ali fan, and Rhymesayers lineup is solid altogether. I finally saw him live before this album came out, and I really enjoyed his performance. Reading some of the notes on Genius is worth it for this album too. He also did two songs for Spotify singles this year.

If you don't know Brother Ali, here's a good starting point: 25 of my favorite Brother Ali songs (Spotify playlist)

Brother Ali — All The Beauty In This Whole Life

Listen to the full album on YouTube
Fiancé and I caught Trombone Shorty there the night after we got engaged. It's an awesome venue, and I highly recommend any music lover catching a show there.

Yep.

I know 3 that have died. From good families, college grads, etc. All started with pain pills in college.

I know of at least 10 others that have been to rehab for opiates/benzos before they got into needles. Some of them snorted and smoked heroin though.

Its fricking terrible.

I've started to tell people to ask about it the next time you're with a group of 10 or so people. You'll probably be surprised how many of them have a friend, loved one or person in their life who has either died or been strongly affected by the opioid epidemic. It's across communities and doesn't discriminate in the lives it claims.

re: Spotify Playlists?

Not really an answer to OP's question, but here are some of the playlists I've made that some of y'all may enjoy:

BRASS Cause I like brass bands.

Storytime Songs that tell a story, so close your eyes and listen.

Go there! Inspired by places to travel.

Say My Name Song titles that are someone's name.

Mexico Went to Mexico; made a playlist.

Crawfish Put it on while you boil.

Time The clock is ticking...

Mardi Gras No explanation needed.

Sweet Soul Music Compiled with a LOT of suggestions from other TD Music Board posters.

Then, I also make a bunch of "greatest hits" type of playlists, both for friends and for my own listening. A lot of times I'll be planning on going to a concert, and some of my friends may not know that band or artist. So, I send them a playlist, typically with my "25Picks." If you don't know these artists or have heard only a few of their songs, these are some of my favorite musicians and ones I recommend checking out.

Dispatch
Perpetual Groove
Futurebirds
The Band
Brenton Wood
Dave Matthews Band
CCR
People Under The Stairs
Grateful Dead
Josh Rouse
Levon Helm
Mason Jennings
Brother Ali
Wilco
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Cash Money Records
ALO
Keller Williams
The Revivalists

Did y'all stop by the library?

LSU grads, on your last day on campus, give your parents a tour of the library

quote:

Whatever the case, please consider reserving ten minutes to take your family on a tour through the disgusting, decrepit Middleton Library.

Show them the repulsive 40-year-old tables and the grimy chairs where you studied. Point out the carpet stains that were there before your dad was a freshman. Be sure to walk through the bathrooms, which would shame even the most inattentive gas station attendant.

Point out the dangling ceiling tiles and the missing floor tiles. And don’t forget to take them downstairs to the basement where the government documents are housed and which doubles as a wading pool after a heavy rain.

Like most people who don’t work or study at LSU, they’ve had no reason to inspect the school’s buildings, which are ostensibly pristine.

...

Oh, and here’s another reason you should taking your parents and grandparents to the library:

Because it’s all you’ve ever known, you may not realize what a disgraceful, crumbling campus this is. See it, at least once, through their eyes.

You may not have visited the sparking campuses of the University of Alabama, the University of Georgia or Ole Miss to see what universities look like in states that value education.

Clapton — Motherless Children

quote:

Motherless children have a hard time when mother is dead, lord.
Motherless children have a hard time when mother is dead, lord.
They don't have anywhere to go;
Wandering around from door to door.
Nobody treats you like a mother will when your mother is dead, lord.

Cowboy Take Me Away is a great song.

ooowee! I know it's, uh, a little cheesy, but damn if I don't like Goodbye Earl

better, easier and safer

I can get better and easier, but safer? You just mean safer as in more likely to completely clean the crawfish and not about being in harm's way, huh?

Obviously we're all getting crawfish that have been cleaned to varying degrees. What I'm able to buy here in Austin is pretty clean when I get it, so nothing like what you're buying (I'm jealous) that needs a deeper clean.

I've always used an ice chest. But as an apartment dweller, finding a basket that fits in or on my pot might be more practical for storage than one of those big white ice chests.
I have the 100qt and the sp10. it seems like it takes forever for that first pot of water to boil. anyone got suggestions or should I just upgrade to the sp2?

looks like that's 185K BTUs vs 210k between the 10 and 2. Is the difference that noticeable or is it the double jet that makes the difference?

But based on what I'm reading here, I'd discourage using the sp10 with the 100qt and instead buy the sp2 if you're starting from scratch

Yep that's it! I was thinking the same thing. Not sure if something like that would really be needed for a backyard boil.

I haven't shopped around for one, but just off looking at that Bucc-ee's price, it looks to be probably about double what you could get a normal pot/basket/burner set up for.

But if anyone knows the advantages of using a cooker like that, I'm definitely interested...

I take it this is a cooker?

I saw that one for sale at Buc-ee's for $700. What's the advantage of using one of those as opposed to the typical burner/pot/basket setup? I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone using the cooker except at maybe like a business / restaurant?

But, if you're in the market, I have only good things to say about my 100q Bayou Classic LINK
