Very confident that Ugo is a tiger also at this point. Oregon got him in the portal but we took care of business. Virginia was the other school he was talking to but our side feels good.
He wants to be a starter at a high-major. Oregon signed Fred Payne, and it sounded like they basically gave Ugo the same pitch Izzo did: "Be one of the first guards off the bench."
I would rather see Curry at the point. The below is about a week old, so you can take McNeil, Payne, and Patrick off. Ugo didn't even rank as one of the best guards left in the portal at that point.

Another name of interest:
Michael Ruzic, 6’8 Croatian PF. Played for Joventut Badalona in Spain last season.
Per Trilly: Same teams as Santos in contention for Ruzic: Kentucky, BYU, LSU. So if Santos commits we probably back away from this one.
I would rather him over Santos all day long. At 19, he is a legit NBA prospect. Shot 40% from 3 and is a great FT shooter.

LSU is after Brice Dessert. 6-11 French center. LSU and Texas Tech battling for him.
Reports that Kansas tried to bring him over last year, but they couldn't get him eligible.

Watch for an Abdi Bashir commitment to Kansas this afternoon. If that doesn't happen, then one of the best 3-pt shooters left in the portal should visit LSU this week.
No Bashir to Kansas news :pimp:
But no Ugo news from Lsu :dunno:

I believe he’s going to have to finish his season and figure out the contract stuff with Virtus Bologna before everything can be fully finalized. Then after that I’m sure there will be some process in terms of paperwork for NCAA eligibility and NIL agreements.
Outside of all of that stuff it does seem like we have it in the bag though. It’s as close to done as it can be without all of the formalities. I believe his last game is scheduled for May 10 but I may be wrong on that.
Heard a report that his reps are still meeting with teams. The good thing, Wade probably has the most money left of anyone out there at this point.

Also still recruiting PF Jordan Burks from UCF
Burks would be a nice addition. He's one of the better players left out there in the portal.

Kentucky fans coping so hard saying Santos would be a bench player for them
He'll be coming off the bench at LSU. He has a nice offensive skill set, can step out and hit the 3 (shot 40%), but he lacks the athleticism to be a high-major starter. He is a major defensive liability, basically won't be able to defend without fouling at the high-major level. His role will be a guy who can give you some minutes off the bench and score, but will be limited by foul trouble and defensive ineptitude.
Also, who does he start over? Graves? Dioubate? Niang?

Is that preferred lineup tourney capable?
FR and Internationals are always tricky, regardless of rank. However, Wade has more than enough options to put a tournament team on the floor next season. Wade would get that lineup in the tournament.
Here is the current LSU Board based on EvanMiya
A couple of notes, Internationals and potential FR don't have EM ratings so not include. Ty Rodgers hasn't played in 2 seasons so his numbers are from '23-24. Jahki Howard doesn't have enough data to be relevant in the ranking system.
Based on this, the best potential lineup for Wade:
Curry PG
Bashir SG
Graves SF (he can easlily play the 3 or 4)
Dioubate PF
Niang PF
Likely lineup based on current info:
Ugochukwu PG
???? SG
Graves SF
Dioubate PF
Niang PF
Possible lineup:
Ugochukwu PG
RJ Hampton (HS Reclass) SG or V. Miller
Graves SF
Dioubate PF
Niang PF
Prefered lineup:
Curry PG
RJ Hampton (HS Reclass)
Graves SF
Dioubate PF
Niang PF

Ugo or Jaylen curry, huh
Divine Ugochukwu. He visited Oregon this week, and there was speculation that he would commit on Thursday or Friday, but LSU got him in without him committing to Oregon. It appears that Oregon also might be happy with Fred Payne, Boston College transfer, at the point.
Ugochukwu left Mich St because he wanted to be a starter. Izzo wanted to keep him on the roster, but apparently Ugochukwu wasn't happy about his role for the upcoming season.

Like i’ve said all along, Wade never really wanted him.
I'm not buying it. By all accounts, Wade and McNeil had a great relationship at NC State. McNeil was a Top 125 player this past season and an elite 3 pt shooter. He projects out Top 50 - 75 guy next season. I know you've said, "Wade didn't like his defense," but the apparent backup plan, Bashir, is significantly worse on D. The only thing he has going for him vs. McNeil is that he will be cheaper.

I know it's confusing with two basketball recruiting threads, but let's give credit where it's due. covtgr and landmanner brought the Niang news to the stickied thread a few days ago. Then, CJ was up at 3:00 am this morning, making sweet love to the La Repubblica report.

Can you confirm that Divine Ugo is visiting this weekend?
Would be big. Rumors of an announcement to Oregon, potentially as soon as this afternoon.

But seriously though, Niang is going to be one our better players on offense.
Niang is not a serious offensive threat. He has superior athleticism and is a great defender, but needs to work on his offensive game.
quote:
Weaknesses: Still extremely raw offensively … Struggles to create for himself off the dribble and lacks advanced ball-handling … Decision-making under pressure is inconsistent—often looks rushed and can be turnover prone when tasked with creating … Outside shooting remains unproven

The 7 is probably being pushed by Duke/UNC/UK to make it seem like LSU is overspending to "beat" the blue bloods.
It appears to have come from a reputable source, b/c I doubt la Repubblica would run with the story based on msg boarder hype.

Side note: When the news comes out that Graves isn't going to Duke look for the reasoning to be "Duke pulled out". Even though he told the coaches at Duke like 2 weeks ago he wasn't going there lol.
Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje probably got the money they were planning on holding for Graves.
Graves seems enamored with the draft, but he has started to fall out of the Top 20 on draft lists. I think that is a good sign for LSU.
