It's fake.

Whatever the reason, it's certainly all an act.

We are approaching a point where we cannot trust digital information because so much of it is AI-generated trash.

If you think these predictions mean anything you ain't paid attention since Katrina. As the season moves along they will adjust their predictions each month to match what's happening. They know as much as you on what's going to happen.
Thanks for the update

This pretty much aligns with CSU and the other prognosticators.
Not really impressed with the preseason forecast this season, and I tend to lean below normal, but it's really just guessing. We might get a stat booster in the 2nd week of June. It typically takes some early season name wasters to get above avg named storms.

There is a very simple solution - Congress passes a budget that includes these cuts.

Last year was his best team. Now, that team would not have been .500 vs. this past season's SEC. But it would have been a few games better than this year's group. Regardless, none of it is "good". You could see the conf. collapse this year coming well before January because even though LSU was winning in the non-conf schedule, they were still steadily in the bottom three of the league in the KenPom rankings.
Using the EM relative team ratings, the two seasons were comparable overall, but '23-24 was much better offensively, and '24-25 was much better defensively. I stated before the season started that the biggest problem for CMM was that the rest of the SEC got significantly better in '24-25.

It will be interesting to see if the defensive uptick from this past year maintains without the rim protection Chest and Collins brought to the table. Reed has never been a great defender, and he is a below the basket player (even before his injury). Miller has the length, but he doesn't seem to have the timing/aggressiveness to be a great shot blocker. Nwoko is the only guy that has rim-protection traits. The question is can he defend without fouling?
We will have to see what kind of coaching job CMM does with this new group, but it's unlikely they will be better defensively. In fact, the data points to this team being significantly worse defensively. The new roster only has one player on it who had a DPBR (Defensive Bayesian Performance Rating) above 1 last season (Reed), and has 3 players who had negative DPBRs last season.

Another thing to note is next year *when everything works out with McMahon, there’s a possibility that a lot of our pieces come back. Retention will be bigger than our portal gets next year. Our biggest pieces are building blocks and not by accident.
~ Dedan Thomas will be a junior this season
~ Zipper has 4 years
~ Robert Miler will be a sophomore this season
~ Jalen Reed got a medical redshirt and has 2 years left
~Nwoko will be a Junior this season
~The three freshman
This is exactly what we were saying last year at this time. Then Ward opts out. Then, Chest, Miller, Givens, Collins, and Williams all transfer out. Theoretically, LSU could have a roster of:
Reed, Ward, Collins, Williams, Givens, Miller, Miller, Chest, Thomas Jr, the 3 FR, and a few other transfers. I know everyone will shite on that lineup but it would have been siginicatly better than a total rebuild.

This is quickly becoming an even bigger joke than last year…. what's next?
You know Bruce Pearl would have been all over this guy if he was legit
No reason to bash the guy. I don't think anyone is saying that he is a top international talent. However, this guy is a solid addition when you only return two scholarship players from the prior year and have to build the roster from the ground up.

Any word on Reed's recovery? You think Zipper starts? He's a nice addition, but is a 22 yr old international that (as far as I can tell) isn't on any NBA draft watch list. Carter probably played against a higher level of competition last season and might be a better option.

Apparently, he's actually 22 and will turn 23 at the start to next season.

Nice addition. Has 3 yrs of international experience. I guess that is it with 13 scholarship players?

And yet, ON3 has this class ranked 58th with a -2. I have the current avg. BPR at 1.44 vs. last season's 1.86. Also, this roster is significantly worse defensively. UGA and Missouri also look worse than last season, but it's hard not to see this team not stuck in the bottom 1/3 of the conference next season.
With 10+ new players next season, CMM will have to do the best coaching job of his career to get this team into any postseason.

Alright, just talked to a couple sources at LSU about Harper and essentially they didnt see him as being that good. The MEAC is awful, Kenpom has it as the third worst conference in the country (29/31). For reference the Summit League (Marquel Sutton) was 17th and Northeastern (Rashad King) was 20th. Huge huge disparity between that and being a contributor on an SEC team this year i think.
This is laughable. The Summit League and the CAA are closer to the MEAC than to the SEC.
So, the money part of the quote is true for all 3 leagues.

In the end, it's up to the staff to evaluate these guys and make the call. It would have been cleaner to say that he didn't have the athleticism/speed to play in the SEC than to try to convolute the conference competition.
CMM camp usually doesn't leak stuff on players they don't sign, so this is pretty out of character for them, if true.

Maybe Lsu should have signed Haggerty instead

That puts Lsu at 12. I can't imagine adding anyone else significant unless an RS is planned for one of the FR.

We don't yet know what the final LSU roster will look like or how minutes will be distributed, but we can calculate an average BPR for the current players. The current roster rates out at 1.56 avg BPR. For reference, last season's team was 1.86, and the season prior was 2.22. It's likely LSU will go into next season in that 70 - 110 roster ranking group, and the vast majority of minutes will go to new players.
As of today, it's probably a safe bet that this isn't an NCAA tourney roster next season.
The addition of Tamba lowers the avg BPR to 1.50. As of now, I would say the roster has gotten slightly worse vs. last season.
With that said, ON3 has a new transfer portal ranking system.
quote:
On3's Team Transfer Portal Index utilizes the On3 (P)erformance score to measure a team’s production during the transfer process, compared relative against its roster and not a comparison against other schools. This proprietary algorithm determines if a school has improved its overall team talent, stayed the same, or declined in talent during the transfer window.
And they currently have LSU at -1, meaning that they also view the roster as worse than last season.

Now I'm not particularly excited about Carter, assuming he comes off the bench, great. But if we traded Givens for Carter then thats a trade I make 10/10 times
LOL if Memphis pays that guy anywhere close to 7 figures, Givens is a lunatic wanting that much
Maybe from a NIL perspective, but Givens has way more upside.

A small forward and a lower BPR than Givens, according to Evan Miya. Hmm… what are we going for here?
A bad sign for Tamba is that his possessions doubled from last season to this season, but his BPR went down. He is decent defensively, and this isn't necessarily a bad pickup for someone to slot into scholarship 12 -15.
