re: Editing the "News" option on iPhone
Posted by LeonPhelps on 7/31/16 at 9:38 pm
I thought this was going to be about the News App on iPhone, which I absolutely love. Nothing I have encountered to date allows me to tailor my news sources to this degree. I check it probably 10 times a day.

Explain to me what a Catholic sheep is. I am Christian and my particularly denomination is Catholic. But I am unfamiliar with the term "Catholic sheep."

I have been a best man. I got absolutely nothing from that. Basically just another groomsmen, which I have been quite a few times now.

Is this your first? I had a great deal of joy and a great sense of responsibility when my oldest understood what me being her godfather actually meant. I imagine it only gets better from here. I'll be there for her confirmation, marriage, and eventually the baptism of her first child.

Being knighted comes to mind
No where near the honor it was, say, 500 years ago. Anyone with enough money can get knighted. It's 100% PR at this point. The Queen is literally just given a list of people to be knighted. She could not give two shits about the person and what they may have accomplished.

I should have added the caveat "for the average person." Obviously, nothing compares to the Medal of Honor.

My mom died over 10 years ago, but have fun with her corpse. It's probably just a skeleton at this point.

I have 4 godchildren. Not one is related to me by blood but they might as well be. I would take a bullet for each one. Each of their parents chose me for a very special place of honor for their child. I take that responsibility quite seriously and try to educate the oldest (now 6) in Catholicism and how to be an all around good person (their parents already do a wonderful job anyway but are more than happy to let me add my two cents).
In South Louisiana, it even has a special moniker - Parrain. Anyway, I love being Parrain to 4 awesome kids that I would do anything on this earth for. I know I am not the only one on this board.

Henry Cavill's Superman is by far the best Superman yet. I don't know how you cannot like his take on it.
Supergirl is absolutely atrocious. It was so bad CBS washed their hands of it. Maybe the CW can fix it somehow.

Lost my mom over 10 years ago to cancer while I was still in grad school. The following semester was the hardest of my life. I still think about her every day and miss her like crazy.

It was original to me because I did not see that other thread. God forgive someone independently arrive at the same thought.

His new movie looks really good - Hacksaw Ridge.
The trailer says, "From the Academy Award Winning Director of Braveheart." However, no where in the entire trailer is Mel Gibson's name actually mentioned. They are clearly trying to hide it.

I watched Braveheart in theaters in 1995 and then watched it about 10 times when it first came out on VHS. I have subsequently watched it at least once a year every single year without fail. I just watched it again this past weekend. It gets better every time I see it.
re: Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's new film Split starring James McAvoy

This is based on a true story, btw. That does not seem to have been mentioned yet in this thread. There is a guy with 24 different personalities. He did kidnap some girls under one personality, but the others basically rose up to "imprison" the bad one.
re: If You Had To Choose Between Being Caucasian or Male
Posted by LeonPhelps on 7/27/16 at 4:45 pm
I don't want periods or to be the one to have to carry a baby for 9 months and end it with a terrible looking process. So I'll stick with male. Skin color is irrelevant - it is culture that matters. As long as my culture remains the same as it is now, I will still be successful.

I still have an extensive collection of VHS's in their original clamshell cases, nearly all of them Disney full length cartoons and live action movies.
