Honestly I don't know; I'd create an ELO system and use that.

Purely going off the eye test:

Miami - overrated and has a soft schedule
BYU - overrated for tv ratings and to give ND the appearance of a difficult opponent
Ohio State - Elite coaching and recruiting, probably near the top even with the loss @ Texas
ND - perpetually overrated, will lose 1st round of playoffs
Georgia - same as Ohio State
Indiana - one hit wonder, Cignetti doesn't have any more 26yo James Madison players to raid
Ole Miss - overrated, living off the fumes of the program Lane built; doesn't have it to go far
Texas Tech - overrated, haven't played anyone with a pulse; living off reputation as big spenders
UCLA - somehow dodged Ohio State, Indiana, Northwestern, and Minnesota; undefeated on weak schedule
Utah - punches above their weight, but they're getting beat by Houston so not their year
Tennessee - 2 losses by a total of 6 points, would give almost all teams trouble despite the SC loss
Kentucky - not an elite team, favorable bounces have them at 7-1 instead of 5-3
Alabama - top 12 but not a serious contender for the title
Houston - would get wrecked by half the SEC and Big10
Iowa - elite defense as always, abysmal offense as always; not top 12

This is to say I'm not terribly impressed by the teams we are told to be impressed with.

What scenario does a 3 loss LSU sneak into the playoffs? Who did we lose to and why aren't they in the playoffs ahead of us?
We still don't have a "signature" win, so we're going to get the shaft until we play Texas (assuming we beat Bama).

Beating Texas will be the win that pushes us into the top 10, because the story will be "Texas beat Ohio State and Ole Miss, and LSU beat them so LSU must be legit," and it'll likely be prime time where everyone will see it happen.

I think we maybe get #16 this week.
This is just another LSU/Alabama 2011 where the starting d's of Houston and Utah will all play in the NFL.

It's going to take LSU winning out to reach playoffs, so if that's the angle you want to play, you might as well just moneyline LSU out the remainder of the season instead of taking -140.
Assuming we win out, Ole Miss is now stuck in the daisy chain.

LSU beats Texas
Texas beats Ole Miss
Ole Miss beats LSU

Their early season win now becomes much less meaningful.
Lol, thanks Goulding. Making our path to the playoff easier.

Goulding should kick the FG here again, then try to offside kick.

Just think, you'll only be down 4 then.

Most Texas thing ever.
We want Ole Miss to lose.

"Yes LSU lost to Ole Miss, but LSU is 10-2 and Ole Miss is 9-3*" is a much easier argument than "Yes, LSU lost to Ole Miss, but 10-2 LSU is still better than 10-2 Ole Miss."

*Assuming Ole Miss also loses to Georgia

He looks like someone who has had every resource at his disposal to train him into a QB, but someone who is also not naturally talented at it.

If Kentucky and Ole Miss also win out, then all 3 teams are in the playoff so who cares?

You're forgetting Georgia. We would likely be the 4th.

Just win out.

This is what I'm trying to tell you..

"Just win out" doesn't hold do the reality if Kentucky and Ole Miss don't start losing.

We need Texas to hold on...

Currently we're in 5th in SEC standings: Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Alabama, LSU.

We play Alabama so that doesn't matter, but Kentucky and Ole Miss could pose a problem.

Ole Miss's remaining schedule is:
vs Auburn
vs Georgia
@ Oklahoma
vs Wofford
vs Miss State

Georgia is likely their only loss left, so a 2 loss Ole Miss beats a 2 loss LSU in tiebreaker scenarios.

Kentucky's remaining schedule is:

@ Tennessee
Florida
@ Missouri
Louisville

It's not hard to imagine Kentucky going 3-1 for that stretch, which would also put them above 2 loss LSU since they beat us.

That means final SEC standings could look like: Georgia, Ole Miss, Kentucky, with LSU being left out.

They only let 3 Big 10 teams in the playoffs last year, even though most agree they were the best conference.
Legit think we win all of them.

Tenn and Texas will have trouble moving the ball on us, Alabama will score, but our offense is looking way more consistent.
... and we lost to Kentucky in overtime.
25/36, 300 yards passing, 3 passing TDs, 1 rushing TD against a team that beat Georgia.

What are you talking about?
Ceiling is just above starters but the floor is 30 feet under the basement.
