Why didn’t you just join the military, sounds like you were miserable at a much younger age.
I did lol. I was in process of getting in to OCS through the Army, but the pandemic came and ruined the whole process.

Cause we didn't get to start in round one vs. a team we had beaten like a drum to start the season in 2024, and we didn't get a watered down Big 12 champ that we wouldn't haven needed OT to beat. Probably should just lose the SECCG for an easier path.
Lol okay

You're talking about leaving your hometown at 25 years old, honestly it happens a lot sooner for most of the people that do it. If I was working remote and could just move anywhere in the country I wanted I would probably prioritize it around my hobbies. I'm sure you had a good reason to choose wherever in Texas you chose. I hope you chose wisely, but if you don't have a family of your own it's not that huge of a deal.
I left for college and stayed gone for four years. I got a job offer in another state and had zero plans of ever coming back. Then the job turned out to be terrible and I ended up back anyway. From that point on, I felt like a failure, watching other people leave or move to Nashville and actually find happiness. My girlfriend at the time expected me to propose so her parents could buy us a house in Franklin, but I knew that life was on borrowed time and I would lose my mind if I went along with it. The only crappy thing about Texas is the lack of nature, but I compensate by just flying to other countries/national parks frequently.

What the frick does this even mean?
I lived in a state with no state income tax, so my employer paid me like that. If I moved somewhere with state income tax without telling them, that is literally tax fraud because they would be reporting the wrong withholding for me. So instead of dealing with that mess, I moved to Texas and avoided the whole issue. The whole game was my employer not knowing that I moved in the first place.

Your story contradicts itself. If I hadn't read the last part I would think you were a nashville transplant that had been there for 3-4 years and wanted out.
No it does not. It’s not uncommon to live in a shite hole but still have family there holding you back.

I see all this commotion about moving states and half responses are like “Yeah my company relocated me” or “My partner got transferred so we just moved.” Cool. Congrats. That must be nice. Some of us didn’t get the corporate escort out of town.
My story looks nothing like that. I wasn’t connected to Nashville at all. I was done with the place on an emotional and psychological level. Any time the idea of extra money came up, my first thought was to escape. And still I was stuck for years. Not because I didn’t want it but because every option I tried slammed shut. I applied to jobs nonstop. I tried to get relocated within my company. Nothing. It felt like I was glued to the city no matter what I did.
Then the pandemic hit. Everything was collapsing except one small thing. Suddenly remote work existed. That tiny shift was the first real opening I had ever gotten and I took it instantly. I transferred my lease, packed my stuff, and told my family and my girlfriend a week before I left. Not because I’m dramatic but because that was my only shot. If I hesitated at all, I would still be in Nashville.
I chose Texas for a few blunt reasons. It was easier to stay off my company’s radar because of the no state income tax. It was warm and not miserable half the year. And the job market didn’t make me panic. That was it. No special plan. Just logic and desperation working together for once.
And leaving was the best decision I have ever made. I found a better job. I actually got to enjoy my hobbies. I built a business and a family. None of that would have happened if I waited around for some relocation package or company transfer that was never coming.
Despite all this, I still had to take a huge risk leaving family and friends whom I had known my whole life. Last, it was just 25 year old me with enough stuff to pack in a U-Haul trailer and tow with my truck. Are people just mainly getting the corporate escort?

Whether we go today, tomorrow, or 100 years from now doesn’t dismiss the theory that they were faked the first time.

They could’ve either over exaggerated the danger of it as an excuse not to go again or they faked this mission.

I’m in a 2025 Ford F250, so I’m assuming it will be awful to refill the tank.
