Riley's star has faded.
I would rather Dillingham.

What did he mean by this?
Clearly he meant he is staying at Ole Miss, and wants to jeopardize his team's potential playoff run with distractions just for the fun of it.
The sudden media pile-on against Lane means LSU is a certainty...

I don't think that you can look at all of this logically and not arrive at the same conclusion... He is gone
Can you imagine how hated Lane would be in Oxford if they lose the Egg Bowl, he announces he's staying at Ole Miss, and it is perceived that Lane costed them a playoff spot trying to squeeze more money out of them?
There is zero reason to put Ole Miss through this if you're staying. If, however, you plan to leave but want to coach the last game of the regular season, it makes complete sense.

"...as I'd just like to keep my team and fanbase on edge right before the biggest game of our regular season, which has playoff consequences. Yes. I'm going to wait until Saturday."
Guys, he's gone. Question is Florida or LSU. All evidence points to LSU.

It would actually be hilarious if LSU hired Dillingham Monday...

And reverse-trolled Kiffin.

LSU can’t really wait
Any agent worth his or her salt would say don't make a move until the LSU job is decided.
Not one of our potential hires is saying to themselves "I can't wait a week, I need to sign with Auburn now."

It's fluid. My sources are telling me it could be from noon today to sometime next year.

IMO, there are three right ways to do this:
1) Offer big contracts to grab a coach with real results. Coaches in this category include: Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Kirby Smart, and Ryan Day.
2) Offer smaller contracts to grab a coach who hasn't proven himself, like: Dan Lanning, Lane Kiffin, Brian Kelly, and Josh Heupel.
3) Offer opportunity contracts to coaches from smaller schools or who are OC/DCs, like: Jon Sumerall, Brent Key, Kenny Dillingham, and Joe Brady.
We screwed up last hire offering a 1-type contract to a 2-type coach. We are likely going to repeat that mistake if we go after Lane. "But how are we going to get a Lanning or a Kiffin here if we don't offer them big?" That's the point. You don't. There's no value in it. The only viable strategies in the current market are 1) and 3).

Bad coaching cycle... we will likely rehire in 3 years.

Saban isn't coming...
Meyer isn't coming...
Lanning isn't coming...
And Kiffin is too expensive for what he brings to the table...
There's no one else.
Maybe you hire the guy from [insert smaller school here] and you get the 1 in 1000 diamond in the rough, but more than likely it doesn't work out and we're back to looking in 3 years. I think that's the harsh reality no one on this board wants to face.

My sources tell me...

...that we may or may not be very close to closing the deal with our next head coach. The coach we're going after has experience at a brand you would likely recognize. Word is there is little to great appetite to locking him in for somewhere between 9 and 15 million a year, for 3-10 years. I've also been told that the probability of hiring our HC before our AD is likely around 50/50, with some preferring before and some preferring after.
I will keep you guys posted as information comes in. If mods want to sticky this thread that would be greatly appreciated.

Literally 90% of the board a week ago:
"I wish we could fire Kelly, but we don't have the money. And even if we did, Woodward would still be AD. It's a disaster."
Kelly gone, Woodward gone.
Now it's: "I can't believe Landry is getting involved. Can you believe what Landry said? I can't believe Woodward is gone, now what are we going to do?"

Two PI inside the 10, and Tulane can't punch it in.
Yea, that's a big NOPE from me. Seen enough.
