me of the best days of our lives growing up were spent piled in the back seat of my granddad’s Towncar. No seatbelts, no problem.

The way I understand it, Bush had the national guard and FEMA staged to come into the state prior to landfall. However, the president can’t simply order the national guard into a state, the governor has to request/allow the aid.
The governors of the neighboring states requested federal help prior to the storm but Blanco said LA would handle it.
The president came down after the storm and specifically asked Blanco for permission. She resisted until the state granted the cleanup/recovery oversight contract to the company her husband was involved with. Once that was done, and FEMA had to abide by that contract, she “allowed “ federal help. 3 days after the storm.
Part of the aftermath of Katrina cleaned up a lot of how FEMA worked and changed the understanding of how federal and state agencies interact.
It's impossible to not turn the discussion into petty political shite but the a lot of other states learned from Louisiana on emergency preparedness. The event also shifted a ton of responsibility to a federal agency that had previously only been in a position to manage everyone.

I do not like the dewalt I have.
Broke after about 20 uses. I think it is the wiring where the battery connects. I have to take it apart today and check. Seems to be a problem with these.

Next: Get rid of the license plate stickers
They just replaced inspection stickers with QR code stickers.
Lots of people were skipping the inspection stickers but the QR codes are going to be forced when you renew your registration. Meaning they found a way to enforce inspection stickers.

I don't think they have metal forging and convert iron ore to steel, but all the assembly and welding type stuff is done in Hambach at the factory.
Pretty good video that Amazon did going through the factory.

I was in the market for a well done Defender when the Grenadier was announced. Just didn't like the idea of trusting something like that to daily.

I wish they would do this in Houma
Want to say they did this at the Shrimp and Petroleum festival and the results weren’t great.
found the article from 2024
quote:
Williams said he purchased plates of boiled shrimp from five of the roughly 12 seafood vendors at the event, asking each where the shrimp was caught. All five vendors assured him their shrimp came from Louisiana waters, he said.
Looks like they did better in 2025

In a complete turnaround from last year, all seven vendors sampled at the Morgan City Shrimp and Petroleum Festival served authentic Gulf shrimp at the Labor Day weekend event, testing showed.

Pretty sure the BMW engine is the only part sourced from another auto manufacturer.
Unless you mean parts manufacturers like Brembo, ZF, Carrero or Recaro

It does slightly better. I usually get 18 or so and can get 20/21 if I keep it under 80 mph.

Yeah, almost everything is sourced from major suppliers so now that production has caught up parts are pretty available.
All the repair manuals are pretty much open source now

Yep.
Love it. Have had it three years and has only been in the shop for oil changes. Have to go to the dealer for the first service because they do so inspections on the gears abd such.
Other than that you can get warranty work done wherever you like.
It is a quirky car. The steering concern with self centering is easily fixable and the new models apparently don't have the issue. The newer ones have a lot quieter power steering pump as well.

If they don't come and race in my front yard I will not watch.
They left the wide world of sports and I refused to pay for cable to watch them.
