First, LSU has to fire McMahon. No new coach, Wade or not, can be hired until the current coach is fired.

Second, relative to NC State’s losing streak, is that I also wondered if he’d already checked out. But there hasn’t been a lot of smoke out of Raleigh indicating his departure was forthcoming.

I feel for the LSU players. They put in a lot of work, only to finish last in the conference. I don’t feel for the coaches, but if they can look inward and say they did the best they could, so be it. The results speak for themselves. We’re all just waiting to see if the shoe drops after the inevitable loss Wednesday to Kentucky.
Alabama and Auburn would claim it as a national championship. Ole Miss would put up signage in its arena. A&M would print cups.

From what I understand, his day job moved him to Houston so he gave the voice of the Tigue gig up

If this is the Nick Domingue I'm thinking of, he moved to the NW Houston

As our area continues to rebuild from two devastating Athletic Directors

And one historically bad head basketball coach
I have a .750 winning percentage coaching CYO, LSU intramural and BR youth teams. My teams never lost consecutive games. I'm confident that I could win more than 23.9 percent of my conference games (McMahon's current percentage at 17-54), I'd do it for far less for one year and I'd even help them recruit my replacement.

Call your shot, does Matt McMahon coach in the NIT?

LSU has won its last game of the season. It will lose Saturday to Texas A&M, it will lose its first game in the SEC Tournament, it will finish 15-17 overall, and it will not receive any postseason bid.
On a whim, I Googled "Will Wade" and "John Condos" to see if there was a previous public connection. Sure enough, on Will Wade's old McNeese biography page is this quote:

"John Condos - University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors, Chairman Athletic Committee
'Hiring Will Wade as the McNeese Basketball Head Coach is exciting news and I fully support Heath Schroyer and the administration at McNeese. As our area continues to rebuild from two devastating hurricanes, I believe Coach Wade will help reinvigorate our basketball program, university, and community. I look forward to a winning season and exceptional experiences for the students, alums, and Cowboy fans. Geaux Pokes!'"

The governor sure is doing his damnedest to show Will Wade he would have 100 percent support if he was to return to LSU.

Do we get the #1 draft pick?

We get relegated to the Southland Conference
LSU is likely to finish 0-3, losing at Auburn and at home to Texas A&M and a first-round loss in the SEC tournament. It will be 15-17 overall and 3-15 in the conference regular season. At that point, it will be time to pull the McPlug.

Would be the three of the most intense recruiters in their sport, all at LSU at the same time.

Four: Kiffin, Wade, Mulkey, Johnson. You could even include Clark.

If they retain McMahon LSU deserves $0 in NIL donations

This. If McMahon is retained, any NIL donor is just throwing money down the toilet. They'll never see a return on that investment.

I just don't understand why LSU would consider retaining ANY coach who has won just 21 percent of his/her SEC games in four seasons.

The only thing that might make any sense is that if LSU is hellbent on getting Will Wade to return, he'd do it under the condition of staying at NC State for two seasons, which is how long he stayed at Chattanooga, VCU and McNeese.

A coaching change?
A buyout that's paid out over time?
A new arena?

He has to let the clock run out on McM

In what other sport at LSU would the coach still be around with a 15-62 conference record in his/her fourth season?

LSU fans might have forgiven McMahon for such a terrible first year, though I would've thought some of his success with those players at Murray State would've carried over at LSU in year one.

LSU fans might even have thought the program was on the rise after his second season resulted in an NIT bid.

But to say the program has regressed the past two seasons is a gross understatement. There's NIL money to be found for the program. But ask yourself, if you were a men's basketball megadonor, would you be seeing ROI if McMahon is retained? And if you answer hell no, then you understand the talk about McMahon being retained because there's no money to be found but also the need to make a change to be competitive. No change = no new money to build a competitive under a coach who's shown no ability to raise the program out of last place, even given the additional resources he asked for before this season.

But if you look at the influx of $$$ in football from moving on from Kelly to hiring Kiffin, and look at what his hiring has done for the athletic department, the program and the fan base, then you understand why a coaching change -- and most important, the RIGHT change -- could/should bring in more money for men's basketball.

It was at the opening press conference when we got signs things might be very, very different. Whereas Wade was energetic, inspiring, and laid out a great vision for the program in his introductory conference, McMahon appeared nervous, overwhelmed, and just spoke in general platitudes.

I agree with this 100 percent. LSU knew what it had with Will Wade.

His introductory news conference was held in the atrium the LSU Union, and there were cheerleaders and Mike the Tigers and maybe even the band. It was open to the public, and I left believing the future was very bright after the Trent Johnson and Johnny Jones years.

Matt McMahon's introductory news conference was held in the usual spot in the LSU athletics building, and there was nothing about the news conference that said, this is the guy who's going to pick up where Will Wade left off and take the program to even greater heights.

Or nobody cares. Or there aren’t enough people on the PMAC to chant.
LSU has five regular-season games left:
Saturday, vs Alabama
Wednesday 2/25, at Ole Miss
Saturday 2/28, vs Oklahoma
Tuesday 3/3, at Auburn
Saturday 3/7, vs Texas A&M

ESPN Analytics shows LSU favored only against Oklahoma.

Assuming LSU goes 1-4 in these five games, it would enter the SEC Tournament at 15-16 (3-15 in the conference). Unless they win the tournament for the first time since 1980, there isn't going to be a postseason for this team.

If LSU goes 1-4 in its last five games, McMahon will finish 17-55 in the SEC in four seasons (.208 winning percentage).

16-51 is absolutely terrible & he should be fired

In what other sport at LSU would the head coach be allowed to continue with a 22 percent winning percentage in conference games in his/her fourth season? It's past time for McMahon to go and bring someone in (back?) with the ability to revitalize the entire program.
