If the pin is at the front of the green, a 5. If the pin is at the back, a 6. If the pin is in the middle, depends on if long or short is a better miss.

It’s crazy how little inflation has impacted tennis shoes. As a kid 20 years ago, $100 was the transition from reasonable to expensive running shoes, and that’s roughly still the limit. I always wanted New Balance 990s and they were in the $150 range back then.

The only certainty with JOA’s is that lawyers representing both parties will make bank if there is a disagreement.

I’d imagine the language was fairly obvious in Chevron’s favor, but if this was an unforeseen circumstance ten years ago, it was probably in broad enough terms Exxon had no choice but to challenge given the impact.
re: Boat or Pool which is the bigger waste?

Paying someone to install a pool is lighting cash on fire.
Buying a house with an existing pool or buying a boat isn’t nearly as big a waste.

I’ve seen case studies on this with the desired end game of any person born in a society having an equal shot of making it to the top 10% in wealth. That is unrealistic and ignores a ton of genetic and other environmental factors on these outcomes.
People of above average intelligence tend to produce children of above average intelligence much the same way professional athletes tend to produce extremely athletic children. Also, the behaviors that tend to accumulate long term wealth are fairly compatible with raising well adjusted children (although not always).
I look at it more like the EPL relegation model for healthy movement between socioeconomic cohorts. The bottom 1-2% of the top 10% move down every generation and are replaced by the top few percent of lower cohorts.

The thought of waiting until the last minute of the day to cut the grass makes my skin crawl.

I love the theory that most human innovation and great creative works were created by men in their twenties driven by the desire to get laid. Not much different than a peacock and its feathers.
re: Was the Metaurus the key battle of 2nd Punic War?

The Battle of Metaurus combined with the morale effects from the Fabian Plan over the prior 15 years definitely was a turning point.
It’s crazy to think about Hannibal roaming the Italian countryside for 15 years, sacking cities only to lose them a few months later when he moved on, until Scipio Africanus made enough trouble outside of Italy.
The larger than life reputations of Hannibal and Scipio Africanus during the 2nd Punic War are fascinating.

Most states have an industrial exemption for needing an engineering license. If you work directly for a manufacturer, you don’t need a license to provide certain services (in most cases, but not everything).
A 3rd party firm providing those same services would need a PE license. Why most engineers working in industry don’t have PE’s. Folks in Civil and Environmental will due to submitting documents to the government.

Incredible solo. I love how his lips are moving with the notes (?) making him the first brave soul to play an air guitar and real guitar solo at the same time.

I think about getting my belt buckle moving first then taking my trail elbow towards the spot I want my swing to bottom. If I think about those things too much I look like Sir Charles though.
re: Do you think Great Apes could eventually evolve enough to have their own Stone Age?

The way I differentiate humans from every other animal is the ability to continue a cultural narrative from generation to generation. That lead to the very slow creation of language, agriculture, and civilization as we know it. It’s been tens of thousands of years of ‘standing on the shoulders of giants’. This progress is really crazy when you consider how quickly we forget our ancestors (great-great grandparents).
As someone else said, our species has always had the cognitive ability, but it’s been a slow creep from nuts and berries to today. The last 12,000 years and especially the last 100 years are truly remarkable. No one in recorded history was there when our human species began, and scientifically we will never get past a theory in my opinion. Boston Red Sox great Carl Everett has as much direct evidence for his claims as Darwin did.
