Oters who are 50+, what is a 'harmless' habit you had in your 20s that ended up ruining your health or finances later in life?

What's the greatest "Age Gap" rivalry in sports history?
Posted by Chastains on 1/8/26 at 12:00 am
For me it's Djokovic vs. Alcaraz.
Despite Djokovic being 16 years older than Alcaraz they always put on a good show up until the past year.
For comparison- Djokovic and Alcaraz are further apart in age than Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant were.
Any rivalries come to mind?

What was the biggest mistake of each of Louisiana's 5 biggest cities?

What failure/not doing something was the biggest reason they regressed that wasn't the state government's fault. (No Huey Long or Edwin Edwards)
Can be election of a mayor, not alluring or keeping a well sought after business, or something ban worthy like section 8 housing.
What was the biggest factor that was controlled by the city that led to it's downfall?
Educate me.
New Orleans: ?
Baton Rouge: No loop?
Shreveport: ?
Lafayette: Not diversifying from O&G?
Lake Charles: Not doing gambling earlier?
*Metairie is technically top 5 but I'm not counting it bc it's a suburb and I'm from LC

Son degreed there with I&E, Sowela does zero to place grads. Thats actually their huge weak spot since curriculum is pretty good. Plants have a huge old boy network in all areas. Grace had 16 apps for three spots in October, two were nepo hires.
This is what I’m worried about

Obviously, having a P-Tech degree helps in becoming an operator, but does Sowela partner with any of the plants to help get your foot in the door or are you basically on your own? Because I heard you got to basically know someone that works in the plants.
Any Sowela alumni want to chime in?

Enterprise.
Someone renting their car crashed into me.
They knew I had insurance but repeatedly harassed me personally to not only pay damages, but also pay for their lost revenue. (And again, they crashed into me, not the other way around.)
I told them if they called me again I'd sue.
I still use other car rental companies that are part of the same parent company because it's impossible not to but I'll die before I rent from Enterprise again.

I refuse to use a plumbing company in the area because in 2001 they gave a free quote, came out to the job to preform the work, said it was going to be triple the price which I refused, then charged me a service fee.
I refused to pay the service fee because, by logic, a quote isn’t complete until accurate, and they turned me into collections.
Collections called. I told them I’d be happy to pay as soon as they produce the non existent contract with my signature attached. Never heard from them again.
frick you, Church Plumbing and Heating.

Louisiana boss hands workers $240M in bonuses after selling his company for $1.7 Billion

Pretty cool post. I remember when Cameron Communications got sold in Lake Charles a bunch of people got some nice bonuses too.

A Louisiana factory chief proved to be a real-life Santa Claus — giving each of his 540 full-time employees six-figure bonus checks totaling $240 million.
The generous gesture came after the benevolent boss sold the company for $1.7 billion.
Graham Walker, the now-former CEO of Fibrebond, told The Wall Street Journal that he would not agree to sell his company if prospective buyer Eaton did not earmark 15% of the proceeds for its employees — even though none of them owned stock.
The deal, which was completed earlier this year when Eaton acquired Fibrebond, triggered payouts to 540 full-time workers, averaging about $443,000 per worker spread over five years.
Today I learned that Lake Charles has a publicly traded company.
