ICE releases some migrant detainees as its detention facilities reach 109% capacity

Washington — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is releasing some migrant detainees, in some cases dozens per day, as space in its detention system has exceeded maximum capacity amid a spike in arrests by the agency under President Trump, internal government statistics obtained by CBS News show.
On Tuesday morning, space inside ICE detention facilities was at 109% capacity, with the agency holding close to 42,000 migrant detainees, despite having, on paper, a 38,521-bed capacity in its network of for-profit prisons and county jails, according to the internal Department of Homeland Security data. More than half of those in ICE custody were initially arrested along the southern border, the figures show.
On Monday, ICE released roughly 160 migrants from its custody, the figures show, an indication that the Trump administration, faced with the same operational and legal challenges on immigration enforcement that have bedeviled Democratic and Republican presidents, is being forced to release some detainees. Those released can be fitted by ICE with ankle monitors, to track their movements.
In a statement to CBS News, ICE acknowledged that its "enhanced" operations have yielded "a significant number of arrests of criminal aliens that require greater detention capacity."
"We are exploring every solution including working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and our state and local law enforcement partners, asking Congress for increased funding, and scrutinizing case files to quickly remove criminal aliens with executable final orders of removal from Department of Justice immigration judges," the agency said.

Schumer: Dems will insist on Trump undoing ‘bad things’ in spending deal
Posted by bader on 2/4/25 at 4:16 pm
A government shutdown in March is all but guaranteed now:
LINK
quote:
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer reaffirmed that Democrats have a red line in the upcoming spending talks: No more federal funding freezes.
And he took it a step further, saying in a press conference Tuesday that “we will insist that there be certain changes that undo these bad things” — a reference to recent Trump administration moves like the now-paused funding freeze.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Monday that he wants Trump’s attempted funding freeze “choked off” as part of any bipartisan spending deal. Republicans are certain to need at least seven Senate Democrats to back a funding agreement to overcome a filibuster, and it’s possible Speaker Mike Johnson might need House Democrats as well.
Extracting concessions in government funding negotiations ahead of a looming March deadline is emerging as Democrats’ latest and potentially most effective strategy to combat Trump and his allies’ attempts to slash spending and overhaul the federal government’s operations.
“On appointments, they don’t need Democrats,” Schumer said. “But on legislation — particularly the funding resolution — they do need us.”

re: Total hit piece predicting who will "get Elon's scalp". Calls Musk 'Trump's henchman"

“But Musk is a big scalp for a state AG to have on his wall. And no presidential pardon could save him.”
I think it is clear the Dems will go back to the playbook of using state AGs to attack the Trump administration. There was an article today at Politico about everyone's favorite Letitia James "leading the resistance":
quote:
NEW YORK — New York State Attorney General Letitia James has joined one lawsuit blocking President Donald Trump’s birthright citizenship ban, is leading another challenging his wide-ranging funding freeze and warned she’d sue if Trump demands local assistance in federal immigration raids.
And that’s just since his inauguration on Jan. 20.
James, who won a major lawsuit against Trump in 2024, is widely viewed in New York politics as a formidable figure whose next move is always top of mind for politicians, labor leaders and operatives. Now they’re eyeing the state’s leading lawyer as she positions herself to defend New York’s interests in a Trump administration. Her perch — a job that comes with nearly entirely self-driven headlines — has made James a talked-about contender for even more prominent roles like governor, U.S. Senator or even mayor of New York City.
Her actions in Trump’s first week — and a recent interview with POLITICO — suggest James is willing to assume a leading role.

Bill Gates: Musk wouldn’t be telling USAID workers to say home if he knew what it does

It's a catfight between billionaires :rotflmao:

Billionaire Bill Gates said in an interview early Tuesday that Elon Musk “wouldn’t be telling” employees at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) not to come to work if he “really knew” what it does.
“I give billions of dollars to the same thing that USAID does. I go out in the field and study these things. I hire scientists,” Gates said on NBC’s “Today” show.
“And so, you know, I think if he really knew the work there, he wouldn’t be telling 10,000 people not to come and do that work,” he added.

Isn't it public record if it goes to an official vote?

Not only is the amount of money ridiculous but all or most of these NGO contracts were no bid meaning they didn't have to bid against other companies for them.

You gut is probably correct. Judging by the screenshots posted at Reddit, the offer is not on official letterhead and is not signed by anyone. I would think the only ones that would risk taking an iffy offer like that would be those who were already planning to retire this year.

FBI agents who investigate UFOs worried they could be pushed out in possible purge
Posted by bader on 2/3/25 at 2:05 pm
I'm sorry baws but this is where I draw the line:
LINK
quote:
FBI agents who are part of a secretive group investigating the surge of “unidentified anomalous phenomena,” what the government uses to refer to UFOs, are worried that they could lose their jobs in a possible FBI purge targeting officials who worked on Jan. 6 cases, according to four people familiar with the matter.
Some of the FBI agents who work in the group also worked on Jan. 6 cases, according to the people. All agents across the bureau have been ordered to fill out a questionnaire about their work on the Capitol attack. There are worries that the move could lead to a Trump-ordered purge at the agency, said the people, some of whom were granted anonymity to discuss personnel matters.
“I have spoken to several agents from the UAP Working Group who are afraid of losing their role and the investigation getting unintentionally compromised,” said Ryan Graves, executive director of Americans for Safe Aerospace and a former Navy pilot. “I am concerned that the FBI’s UAP Working Group could be affected by transition changes, and these leaders might not be aware of the incredible work these agents are doing and how their investigation could be empowered as part of a formalized intergovernmental effort.”
The existence of the FBI’s informal working group on the issue has not been disclosed publicly before. Graves and three other people familiar with the group said it consists of a national program manager and more than a dozen employees across the country who spend much of their time tracking down UAPs.
Graves said that for more than a year, his group has worked with the FBI team to refer interested witnesses, leads and open source intelligence to help the bureau’s efforts to protect the country and the aviation industry from unidentified phenomena. He said the agents have interviewed interested witnesses and “plus up” these reports with classified information.
“This FBI Working Group is uniquely positioned to investigate UAP due to their joint law enforcement and intelligence authorities,” he said, adding he was “deeply worried that agents key to the investigation of UAP could be removed, which would undermine the Trump Administration’s commitment to take the U out of UAP.”

re: Wired doxed some of the people working with Elon at DOGE and Reddit wants to kill them

I read the article again. It looks like they are GSA employees that are on loan to OPM. This is all so confusing.
quote:
Both Bobba and Coristine are listed in internal OPM records reviewed by WIRED as “experts” at OPM, reporting directly to Amanda Scales, its new chief of staff.
quote:
Farritor, who per sources has a working GSA email address
quote:
Kliger, whose LinkedIn lists him as a special adviser to the director of OPM and who is listed in internal records reviewed by WIRED as a special adviser to the director for information technology
quote:
Sources tell WIRED that Bobba, Coristine, Farritor, and Shaotran all currently have working GSA emails and A-suite level clearance at the GSA, which means that they work out of the agency’s top floor and have access to all physical spaces and IT systems, according a source with knowledge of the GSA’s clearance protocols.
quote:
This is in addition to Coristine and Bobba being listed as “experts” working at OPM. Bednar says that while staff can be loaned out between agencies for special projects or to work on issues that might cross agency lines, it’s not exactly common practice.

They are OPM employees now according to the article. Name and salary should be public record.

Doxing? I see only their names. They are public federal employees and their names are/should be public record.

It’s hard to imagine there are hundreds of thousands of parents in Mississippi who can’t afford to make their kid a sandwich for lunch when they are home from school in the summer.
There isn't. Programs like these are largely being used to feed illegals. This is one of the many ways Dems hide the true cost of illegals.

I'm sure Daddy called him up and told him to shut up and delete the tweet. The Gabbard vote is going to be close and Daddy doesn't want him fricking it up by pissing off Republican Senators and giving them a reason not to vote for her.
