I'm out of the loop on this one. Can you fill me in on "the firework incident?"

I was unaware. I'm fine with that, too. I'm just glad we can provide a nice home for a young tiger in need.
(Also, down-votes on my first comment? Seriously? I guess a general aversion to positivity is one of The Rant's charms, so no worries.)

I'm honestly more excited for the introduction of Mike VII than I am for football season. I was an undergraduate during the last years of Mike V, and I was always ashamed of that pitiful concrete hovel where we kept him. I was genuinely proud of the student body and the student government for the role they played in funding the new enclosure.
I remember when Mike VI arrived as a cub. He was so much more active and playful than Mike V. It was just really fun watching him grow up in those awesome digs.
Hopefully Mike VII will enjoy coming out for football games, but I won't be offended if he'd rather chill under his shade tree.

quote:Yes, I know that. But I'm also one of those 100,000 screaming fans who helps create the atmosphere in Tiger Stadium, the atmosphere that made Scott choose LSU over Harvard. I'm just very invested in his success. I don't see why this is controversial.
He didn't pick LSU because of you.

I actually agree with you. I'm just saying I'll be more pissed at Miles/Cameron than usual if they squander this young man's talent.

It's a bit different. Not many violin players come down with CTE at the age of 35.
But I understand your point.
Lindsey Scott turned down Harvard to play at LSU...

I realize there's no comparison between the two football programs, but something about Scott turning down Harvard to play for LSU makes me feel vaguely guilty. If he wants football glory and a chance to play at the professional level, LSU is definitely the right choice. But if football doesn't work out, will he regret this decision?
Listen, I've met plenty of Ivy League graduates, and only a few have really impressed me. Most have been unimaginative robots who were good at taking tests, or just rich d-bags. I'm a third generation LSU graduate, and I've done very well in life. But I think it's undeniable that Harvard would've been the safer option for Scott.
Everything I read about Lindsey Scott makes me want the best for him. Les Miles and Cam Cameron better do right by this young man.

Nice bama. Validate All the bob stoops sec overrated talk.
You don't win the SEC = You don't lobby to play in the national championship game.

Alabama was lucky to get another shot. I have no problem saying it. With that said, anyone who thinks LSU was better than Bama in 2011 is a lunatic.

13-1: Beat Alabama once
12-1: Beat LSU once
I don't think it takes a lunatic to look at those numbers and come to a different conclusion.

If LSU was the best team in the country in 2011 they wouldn't have not only lost the game, they also wouldn't have been shutout with less than 100 yards of offense.
Have a little humility.

I like Herb but his decision to alter the images of the group of students that painted crosses on their bodies is something I and many others were angry about and I wanted him to resign over such an egregious decision.

I hope you're kidding. Let's save that sort of vitriol for football season and have some class. Personally, I'm happy to see LSU fans pushing through their disappointment to celebrate sportsmanship.

Instead of being upset about it, why don't you be proud that you are apart of a message board that is reflective of democracy instead of tyranny? If you want to chat it up with Bama fans, there is a solid group of them on the SEC rant that would love to talk shop with you.
Wow. I agree with you. Thanks.

It's garbage. Another symptom of Alabama entitlement syndrome.
My question is to the Alabama fans constantly posting on this board. Are you willing to return our courtesy by lobbying the tidefans.com administrator to reverse this policy?

Yeah, went a bit overboard there. I was just frustrated that not a single posted before me even acknowledged that the holding penalty was a factor in the decision. That's a pretty important tidbit to leave out.
No worries. I'm embarrassed that I forgot about the penalty. Your explanation is very reasonably, especially the point about assistants and managers running around with clipboards. Sounds like you have side-line experience. True?

Are you guys really this stupid? Did you not watch the game? It technically WASN'T 4th down yet. Auburn could have accepted the holding penalty, in which case, we would have been backed up, and would have had to replay 3rd down.
I appreciate this explanation. Good information. And yes, I forgot about the holding penalty. It all makes a little more sense, now.
One question. Do you really need to call strangers on the internet stupid? I think your mother raised you better than that.

Had LSU lost, all hell fire would be happening over that clock mismanagement.
Agreed. But LSU still won an SEC rivalry game on the road. Personally, I never imagined a blow-out win against Auburn in Jordan-Hare...because that's crazy. It says a lot about the program that the fan base, to say nothing of the national media, has such lofty expectations of LSU football. For those of us who remembers the lean years, it’s really something.
Yes, Coach Miles has a strange blind-spot on clock management. It's made all the stranger by the fact that he is 75-18 at LSU, with a national championship and two SEC championships. I mean... what the hell? How can you be so successful generally, but so bad at this one thing. Head scratcher.
In any case, I like that LSU fans can appreciate their winning coach, flaws, eccentricities and all. It's something that separates us from Alabama fans. We're having fun. Win or lose, Alabama fans aren't.
So, let's not freak out about this. We have a weird, entertaining coach who somehow wins. Good enough for me.

I recorded the game and rewatched it....before the FG play, the camera is on Miles and he clearly asks Kragthorp "What down is it?"
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. Can someone with a recording of the game do a screen capture of that exchange and post it to YouTube? I'm at work, otherwise I'd do it myself.
Seriously, this needs wide distribution. And I say that as a Les Miles defender.

With the way the game played out, everyone knew that LSU wasn't going for it on fourth. So I ask the question, why the hell was the FG team not ready to get out on the field? It took a few seconds as Miles as the camera showed him talking to a coach before finally saying FG.
Watch it again. Coach Miles didn't know that it was fourth down.
Before you jump all over me... watch the tape. I'm right. The camera cuts to Coach Miles and his assistants for a few seconds just before the field goal unit runs out. He has his hand over the headset microphone. A coach to his left is yelling, "Forth down!"
Les says, "Fourth Down? Field goal! Field goal!"
I've been searching the Rant for evidence that someone else saw this. I can believe it's only me.
