re: Top DL Bernard Gooden enters portal. *Update* Commits to LSU

Yeah this sounds close to a lock. Will be real interested to go back and watch his tape against Bama.
re: UF Wins NC, meanwhile LSU can’t even make the tournament in the last 3 years

So Joe Alleva brought us Will Wade and Ed O. Woodward brought us Kim Mulkey and Jay Johnson. Love Jay and Kim but those are not the money maker sports for athletics. Alleva still sucks, don’t get me wrong, but why does Woodward get talked about so highly in comparison again?

We will have a new coach after next season. This dude is not good enough of a coach or recruiter to make it in the SEC.

It’s not over till signing day. Lets reconvene next December on the freakout.
re: Could this have blown up in Woodwards face any more

The elephant in the room is BK. If he doesn’t make playoffs next year, then both of Woody’s big hires will officially be duds. His job is on the chopping block. He might not be able to hire another pair of coaches.
re: Why does the LSU administration think increased NIL will help MBB?
Posted by nwallb9 on 3/16/25 at 10:10 pm
If BK makes the playoffs next year, I do think that puts Matt McMahon squarely on the hot seat for the 25-26 season. The two jobs are very much linked. Money is finite. If BK has a down year in 2025 when expectations are sky high, then they will need to start loading the money canon for his buyout, likely following the 2026 season. If BK does well next year, makes the playoff and wins a game or two, he buys himself another two seasons at least. So in that case the buyout money can go towards McMahon. They’re not going to buyout a basketball and football coach in the same calendar year. Just won’t happen.
re: Why are we retaining McMahon?

Simple. He’s an average coach being given some of the worst resources in the conference to work with. Firing him would imply the admin wants to start investing more in the sport and it’s clear as day they have other priorities.

I see both sides of this argument. Better competition brings out the best in your team. But also you can easily screw up your playoff ranking with an extra Loss to a team you didn’t need to play out of conference.

Reason McMahon is in this situation is not enough money is interested in buying him good players. Who do we hire (don’t say Will Wade) that would open up the money spigot for men’s hoops when we’ve got football demanding so much right now?
re: Matt McMahon is embarrassing

If I had to guess Woodward told McMahon he’d be given a lot of time and leeway to rebuild the program. McMahon therefore wanted to mostly build through development of highschool players and supplement with portal. That would have worked better this year if both of the juniors he had developed since year 1 were still playing on the team (one gone due to mental health the other to injury). I think it could still work but he has to hope some of these young guys develop more. It most definitely is the slower way to build a program, like Kelly wanted to do in football. And I think Woodward and the fanbase in general is patient enough with basketball to let him keep trying that way. Year 4 is the year I think he has to make a run. Similar to Kelly.
re: 2026 class is potentially shaping up nicely at safety

Honestly all positions we could really load up on especially DL WR and SAF
Now can we hire a real oc
Posted by nwallb9 on 1/20/25 at 11:08 pm
Bring Denbrock back. Or hire someone else whose veteran. Sloan is average at best. And making Kelly call plays all year seems less than ideal. It’s the last missing piece for us to win a natty next year.
re: We have no difference makers on this hoops team..

Woody gave him a long term fully guaranteed deal. My guess is he is here to stay another few seasons. They don’t want to pay a buyout when they need all that money for football.
re: Who is an underrated player from the 25 class your confident will be a star at LSU?
Posted by nwallb9 on 1/10/25 at 8:43 pm
Honestly 2026 will be interesting with receiver room. Barion Brown Aaron Anderson Zavion Thomas Chris Hilton all gone. That’s gonna be a lot of production out the door.
re: K. Lacy wanted on negligent homicide and hit and run

Without aggravating circumstances. Add hit and run on there and reckless driving. Dude is looking at 15-20 most likely.

Kelly needs to make a natty next year or at least a deep playoff run. He was not brought here to take us to Texas bowls every year.
re: Freeman makes it to the title game before Kelly does at LSU

Kelly won’t be here that much longer. We will have a new coach soon.
re: Brian Kelly has 0 playoff wins

Freeman already has 3!
re: Would you trade BK for Marcus Freeman?

Freeman has quickly turned into a top 5 coach in America! Offer him 120 million guaranteed, Scott!!
