California took about 38 days to finalize the counting of mail-in votes for the 2024 presidential election, with the official results being certified on December 16, 2024.
They had to keep adding votes to get the nation's popular vote closer to undo the mandate.

started mine at 40, wife was 35. we have 3 kids. just how things worked out for us.
If your kids follow that pattern, you will be in your 80s before any grandkids.
My dad was 41 when I was born(#3 of 4). I had my first at 34. My kids never knew my dad in any resemblance of his prime. He passed at 86. They only knew him as old and asleep.
Then the double whammy of kids in college and parents in assisted living/nursing homes.
It's not ideal.

Wait until you find out that the methodologies we have been using for decades in thousands of public schools across the country don’t teach students how to read.
Things were shitty before covid, but that experiment has really ramped up stupidity.
My wife teaches 5th grade at a rural 90% white, 5% black, 5% Hispanic. Her current class was in kindergarten when covid hit and they stayed home for the next six months.
These kids learned through a keyboard at home and when they made it back to school their teachers were wearing masks. A full 25% of them can't read and nothing is being done about it. The system is teaching the same curriculum they were seven years ago. They are just going through the motions. There isn't time to backtrack. They have to keep moving forward.
It's just sad. I think it's the feature, not a bug. If we are all stupid, does it matter who is properly credentialed or who occupies each job?

Is a co-op (think IGA or Associated Grocers), and almost all the stores are family-owned. So the credit goes to the individual/local entrepreneurs, who are a part of the community.
On the other side of my town was a struggling Food Giant. A decent size grocery of the 70s. Ten years ago, the owner devoted half of the space to Ace. It is all one open store. It is unique and I like it, but two local hardwares, two Lowe’s, Home Depot and a Menards are closer to me.
The grocery side still has a deli with really good fried chicken though.

Maybe I’m missing something but why does it matter if it was a phone or body cam?
It doesn't in the big scheme. The vid is real, so how it originates doesn't matter.
I wouldn't have the presence of mind to hold the phone, draw my weapon, fire and then grab my phone from where ever it fell to film the aftermath.
My explanation since I know he had a phone is that he was filming with two devices.
But, in the end, it doesn't matter.

Not to be too much of a smart arse, but why not both?
The cellphone would be easier to text vid on the spot.

Really? How many do you know that retired to Cali? Living out there for the last 40 years and riding it out to the end, I understand.
U-Haul receipts disagree.
I moved an at the time 80 yo uncle in '22 out of Sacramento and a 83 yo aunt out of Pasadena in '24.
Each had been out there since the 1980s.
It's been at least 15-20 years since I knew anyone who took a job, much less retired in California.

Second or third grade myself and I ruined it for my younger brother. It was really shitty of me.
My kids are now 21 and 23. They were coming up when the Elf on the Shelf just started boiling. My wife was very convincing. All of the letters. All of the gifts. All of the rules.
Our friends back then had slightly older kids. Their oldest was all in also. He didn't figure it out on his own. He was in middle school when they broke to him. That kid was devastated.
Our kids were on the same path. We broke it to them before they hit middle school.

re: What happened to Kate Beckinsale?

I'll agree with that, but this is her story:
quote:
Actress Kate Beckinsale has a chronic condition called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), which causes allergy-like symptoms and can flare up due to stress, shock, and grief, leading to severe issues like a recent stress-related tear in her esophagus (Mallory-Weiss tear) that caused significant weight loss and a six-week hospitalization in 2024. She openly shares her struggles with MCAS and other health issues, including a ruptured ovarian cyst in 2019, to raise awareness.

Since first hitting the stage, they’ve founded the first drag house for youth, walked the runway at New York Fashion Week, been an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ youth, and even met RuPaul at DragCon. And while Napoles says these years as Desmond Is Amazing have been crucial in shaping their identity, they’re moving forward. On the precipice of their 17th birthday, Napoles prefers to be known as Desi, and is focusing on their activism, on graduating from high school, and on expressing themself away from the stage.

While they didn’t officially stop doing drag until 2020, Napoles says they started to rethink it in middle school.
“After I entered middle school, it was like, I may not be doing drag. Then I found the term gender fluid and it really stuck with me,” they say. “That’s how I ended up identifying.”
