C-O-N-N UCONN UCONN UCONN!!

I went to college in The Basketball Capital of the world but my mother's family has been at LSU in some form or fashion for a hundred years so it became an adopted Alma mater of sorts for me, and I was lucky enough to send my boy to school at LSU. My wife and kids didn't get the LSU love until our son’s freshman year. But one Saturday Night in Death Valley was all it took for them to “get it.” They’re now die-hard fans and will absolutely swear that there is no place in America like Tiger Stadium when it’s rocking. Pick a good game, spend the money, and soak it all in. No matter what it costs, it will be an investment in a memory you’ll never forget.

I’m as big an LSU fan as anyone and Jay is a great coach, but as a UCONN grad I have to say that there is no current coach who holds a candle to Geno Aurriema. His stats are ridiculous, and he has been consistently excellent for four decades. His teams on multiple occasion have gone years in a row without losing. It’s unreal.

This really is the only proper response. Nothing more needs to be said.

I don’t want to watch his open-mouth gum chewing every week. Guy eats like a cow.

I suspect the booster meeting was scheduled and the decision was made well in advance of the aTm game. At one point in the first half, the camera showed Shaq on the sidelines. I’d be surprised if he just happened to be at the game that took place hours before a big booster meeting was held to discuss firing a coach. Instead, I suspect he was there for the meeting and went to the game as an aside.

All this crap about zone reads, position blocking, “scramble to throw” and the rest misses the point that football is and always has been a simple game- your 11 guys knock their 11 guys backwards and you’ll win. Kiffin’s appealing now because he scores points and moves the ball. But my sense of LSU football has always been that it’s at its best when the D is just nasty and beats people up, and the O pounds the rock. I’m not saying we need Lester, but we do need someone who will bring back a bully culture. Not sure who that is, but it ain’t Lane.

It’s tough to score when you keep the bat in your shoulder. LSU batters are only seeing one or two pitches to hit each at bat, and often it has been the first pitch. Please, please start swinging at those pitches.

I disagree with this, to an extent. This isn’t going to be nearly the caliber of defense that woebegone LSU fans have come to expect, and I don’t think it will be good enough to go deep into the playoffs. But I think they’ll be better than what we all hated to watch last year (hard to imagine anything worse!). To start with, I think the O is going to be a big difference- maker based on the pace of play. With the RBs we have -and a best-in-class O line - I think we can pound it out and control the clock. That should take pressure off the D, unlike last year where we were so explosive that, at times, it seemed like we scored every 3d play and put a flailing D right back on the field. This year, we’ll be able to slow it down behind the strength of the offensive line and pound the ground game, which will give the D a break they didn’t have last year and, more important, give the bettter defensive coaching staff a chance to coach them up while the O is on the field. My point being that I don’t think we can entirely scheme around the lack of top-tier bodies on the defensive line, but there are things I think we can and will do to mitigate the lack of depth and experience.
