re: LSU Baseball Portal Tracker

Tough cycle, but it is the landscape of college baseball. The best path for the college freshman at the premier programs is to drop down a level get valuable experience, play lights out and jump in the portal - get your payday and hit the field at the college of your dreams.
I think you are correct. Simply cannot commit those resources to freshman. Schmidt sort of did not live up to the hype year one. Hopefully he takes the next step in his career in '27.

The other side of this is with a freshman class that size, those guys have got to LOVE LSU, or they will be out the door. He has his infield solidified and pretty much the outfield with one slot remaining. This class has at least 4 quality OF freshman coming in.
Agree, much like Braswell - Milam will never be celebrity status in the MLB or the backfields of Arizona in the minors, so why not? He literally has nothing to lose other than the lifestyle LSU has afforded him.

Kid will be a legend!

We cannot forget about Dawson Park...where is he going? I was thinking move him to 3rd. Ruckert might be in a platoon situation or compete for COF spot.

Sort of stinks for Ruckert and the incoming freshman INF (if we have any). I am assuming Ruckert takes on a back up role and a sort of stay ready/platoon with RHH/LHH scenarios.
No kidding that OBP is trash…and at Texas State. Hoping for the best..-albeit hope is not a strategy

Sure hope CJJ knows what he is doing with Dawson Park… same kid the quit on his team before season ended and had physical altercation with teammates and a coach. Based on Twitter reading a “known” locker room cancer. Check out the videos over Twitter of the fight with him and teammates. Kid was at Texas State for a reason…smh
Baseball is uniquely different in that the younger the major leagues can get a player the better...so if you goal is to get to the majors it is not a added benefit. However, if you want to stretch out your collegiate career because this is likely the end of the road then YES it is added benefit for you and adds experience and maturity to college lineups.

No draft eligible junior who is 21-22 is looking forward to sticking around until 23-24 y/o because that is not the model for most major league clubs...maybe for a pitcher that's about it.
It is a bad take that CJJ did not have the money he wanted for this years team - he had the money and he got what he wanted. The players just did not pan out. BAD evaluations and player assessments. Hence, his comments on focusing on more complete players. You can't recruit one dimensional non athletic (fat) players and think its all peaches and rainbows. You recruit athletic baseball players that can play anywhere with anyone in any position...period.

Let's not make excuses for this staff, they did in fact piss down their leg last years recruiting!

The majority of the market is not that big but LSU absolutely can swing it!

Not so fast...news just broke that NC State HC is retiring...there might be a chance.

re: Pitching for next season

Totally agree, I think this is where a lot of this comes from...they are all pressing to impress....to not get pulled and end up pooping on the mound. Evans needs to go back to the pen - he is NOT a Friday nite guy. CJJ is messing with his stock $$$, let him operate in his true capabilities.

Get a stud Friday nite guy out of the portal and be done with it!
A little shaken but expect CJJ to bounce back. If it's a test he has the answer key, like he said weeks ago in the press conference re: portal- stick with the young guys you bring in, trust your evals and move forward.

The xfer portal is a crap shoot. Every season there are no sure things like Tommy White or Paul Skenes. If he had it to do over again he would not let "more complete players" walk...i.e. Ryan, Hogg, Larson, etc.
and he has another year of eligibility...he is from LA so likely back for his Senior year! hopefully he gets his degree~ :nana:

but wait....he is from Louisiana...and we all want a roster full of LA baws right?

re: If Milam goes

Posted by johno71 on 5/1/26 at 3:00 pm to
and if he did it would be to ONLY play SS!
what about if the new NCAA eligibility rule takes effect? they will be grandfathered in with a 5 year clock...that would likely at least cover York and Simpson, DarDar would age out.

Nice easy drive over...will be a nice escape from BR. Might see the tigres one game, maybe two :)
I think CJJ said it a few weeks back in his press conference. You can't go out shopping POWER because it will get you what he got this year. Carraway was a walking error at OSU with a low BA until playoff spike. Not sure what you thought you were getting with him. The others (York/Simpson/Dardar) came from lower level programs with no real pedigree for SEC life. It is what it is...failed evals across the board.

Carraway just never took the step forward he needed to take and now he is here on the payroll with no draft smoke. Does he get processed or return for his senior season? Dardar is always banged up/if the NCAA rule passes does he try for a 7th year of college baseball? same for York/Simpson...
