They climbed rankings by manipulating employment reporting to the ABA.

ABA weights graduates who are hired on at firms over 251, or 501 attorneys very highly in their formula because those are the high paying Mid/Biglaw jobs that everybody is vying for out of law school.

A&M sends alot of their grads to massive corporations that also employ over 251, or 501 attorneys, giving the false impression that they have a major mid/Big Law presence. Those often times are not law firms, they are corporations.

UTx has always dominated Biglaw hiring in the state of Texas. To a lesser degree UHLC and SMU in their respective metro areas.

It’s also why very academic law schools like Bama or Utah have a disadvantage in those rankings. They represent their region well, but the economics of the state they are in do not warrant a massive Biglaw presence.
