A better fit than the two schools joining next yea, you say? Well, in the FWIW dept--even if it IS 2013 now-- Texas was an original Confederate state--like the other states with major universities in the SEC-- and Oklahoma almost certainly would have become so if the South had won the war for its/our independence; so that's justone important historical reason why the two are better fits,both historically AND culturally. In terms of fan-following, color, pagentry, importance to residents, fan following/loyalty, place-in-state-culture, etc, college football in Texas and Oklahoma has always occupied a spot in both state's cultural/folkway/mosaiac that is MUCH more akin to that found in our southeastern cousin states than anywhere else in the country
