Passing through Baton Rouge, Friday at lunchtime with some friends from Oklahoma. What would better be a better lunch experience? The Chimes or Parrain’s.
Parrain's is the better choice for your "passing through". It is much easier to get to/from the Interstate and parking is usually not a problem.

Beach beers are the best. One more day of no beer here.

She’s disgrace to what William Morvant represented. When I look back to the bench in the 19th when I started practicing-
When I started practicing in 1986, the 19th JDC bench was solid AF.
And good take on Judge Morvant. As a friend, I am biased, but he lived up to the "Honorable" title.

Parrians for fried seafood
They are known for their fried stuff, but they have several excellent fish entrees that are not fried. The BBQ Drum is one of my favorite fish dishes in town.

The Auburn location is nice.
It is. That was the first MM location that I visited. Very good.

I would be shocked if they didn't continue what they did for Texas A&M, at least in terms of vehicular traffic on campus.
They should.

The second book to read is All Quiet on the Western Front.
Both great books. Johnny Got His Gun is another great one. Not so much about political history and military tactics, but so f'ing disturbing. It will cause nightmares.
quote:
I did my deep dive on WWI a couple of years back. Considering I once taught military history and WWI in particular, I was surprised about how much I didn't know (compared to things like the American Civil War or WWII)
I got a History degree from LSU and focused on Western Civ. I took a History of Warfare class that was excellent. It took decades for military tactics to keep up with advances in weaponry. In the Civil War soldiers charged against rifled guns with longer range and accuracy than before. In WWI they continued this stupidity going over the top and charging machine guns.
