re: Thoughts on Huey Long?

As someone not from LA, but lived there for a short while and married into a LA family, what I don’t understand, and maybe never can, is how did a state with so many natural resources and advantages end up the way it did while Texas, for example, end up differently?

I always come back to corruption, but it’s a two edged sword. There is no other place like Louisiana both good and bad. It can be mind numbingly frustrating, but at same time, it just feels different than anywhere else. It’s not just the food, music, culture, or sense of place, the people are so entertaining. Rambling but sort of on point.

The chene scout boots are a bit pricy, but they are the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn. I don’t get hot in them and with a wool sock haven’t gotten cold either.
There has been experiments done. Zyn actually has (or had- not sure how the acquisition will work, if it’s like anything else that gets acquired these days— will probably go to shite) great QC. Very clean- limited ingredients, just nicotine and certain flavoring salts like mint essential oil.

The rouges were Terrible on my mouth.

Grew up close to it. Have duck hunted it but never deer. Know people who have deer hunted there with success. Very few big deer, but consistent meat.

The 570 is tiny. You will never regret going bigger. The 570 at our farm has gotten stuck in wet grass before
I’m about to pull the trigger on the mossburg 20 gauge with the hiloson red dot combo. Seems to be best price point rather than buying each separate.

Have all those blind types. So full bodied geese (specks or honkers) and spinners is all that’s needed?

- Is that the area to be?
- are license hard to get for non res?
- how many dekes?
-is opening week best time to go?
-does having side by side make huge difference?
-is private way to go rather than public?

I just don’t want to mess with all that right now. I’m sure it’s way easier than I anticipate, but dog, ducks, guns, ammo, just don’t feel like going thru the hassle. Definitely want to eventually.

Has anyone done this or have any clue how to start researching either a DIY or self guided situation? Have all the gear, would like to bring my dog. Have only public land hunted the south, and in Idaho for elk.

Ideally would drive up there in October and stay for a week. Sure as hell ain’t no ducks down here

re: Cold weather- no duck…WTH???

I’ve seen this and follow them all year. I have been in NE Ark for 7 of the last 14 days. I have not seen any decent number of ducks to prove this. I have Hunted and scouted hard; driving hundred of miles looking at rivers, fields, sloughs, woods, cypress holes, etc. if they are there they are hiding deep.
I’m in NE Arkansas and besides opening weekend, it’s been the worst season I can remember. I hunted hard the past 4 days and did not pull the trigger. I had 2 groups of mallards work. In 4 days. Some people are doing well, many are doing bad. I saw the least amount of ducks and geese than I ever had. I personally think this cold weather happened far too late to make them move up north.

40° and chilly, no wind. Moon was bright. Middle Tennessee.

Ladder stand on a bottom overlooking a creek with corn field behind me. Saw nice 8 and a 4 pt yesterday but can only shoot does (of course)

NE Arkansas has gotten a big push the last week or so
Crappy made Chinese product. Good for dry farms, but the wiring and other electrical parts are installed as cheaply and shitty as possible.
Buddy has a front winch and rear winch. His reasoning for the rear? When you get stuck, you usually are trying to get out. Not other way around. It’s actually pretty useful. He also uses both of these to secure to trailer during transport. Certainly not a need, but a nice to have

Like anything, depends what you use it for. For around the camp/ deer lease, general sxs use, I think that’s a great deal and perfect for that use. For mud riding/ duck hunting, they are too heavy for most of that application. They also have fewer aftermarket products compared to can am or Polaris.
I’ll be in NE ark; curious as well. We’re covered up at the moment; but not sure how this will affect them.
If you are deer hunting in LA, in a stand or especially a box, it’s not needed. But if you go out west, or duck hunt a lot; it helps. I don’t like the price; but you get what you pay for. I don’t get to enjoy my favorite hobby often; and when I do, if this stuff keeps me out there longer, it’s worth it. I’ll generally buy one piece a year and add to it. The older I get the less tough and cold tolerant I am. Plus, it’s comfy
