re: Michael Madsen vs Danny Trejo

I think owning donut shops and cantinas puts DT slightly ahead.

And being alive
Thanks FK ......

I almost went up to Spielberg, but chickened out. Not sure what I would have said anyway. I did visit Park Chan Wook's table since I had worked him years ago, though I don't think he remembered me. I told he and the lead actor from No Other Choice how much I enjoyed it and they had my vote in a couple of months.

I am really happy for my guy Wynn and was thankful to be a part of it.

More of a sharing of a cool experience with some insight to the event that was posted about. But I get the sentiment.

I was in the room last night and he could not have been more gracious, especially to my mentor and friend Wynn Thomas (the reason I was there). I am actually featured a little in that video. Our table was a few over from he and Spielberg, Bruckheimer and Inarritu.

TC stayed in the ballroom for at least an hour after taking the time to meet and greet. A true pro and gracious person. And genuinely happy for all.

The level of fame in there was ridiculous as all the award hopeful actors descended ... Sweeney, Sandler, Leo, The Rock ... you name it. Every time I turned around it was somebody. Pretty cool experience.

Thanks Esquire .....
I am actually gearing up for a family visit and Southern Swing next week, so will miss some of the later screenings happening.

But I did catch Jay Kelly on Tuesday ... which I did enjoy as well. A bit sugary sweet, but Clooney and Sandler were great. Very enjoyable and likable movie. The best part was the after part at the Chateau -- Bono, Cindy Crawford, Margot and Lily from ATT all in the house!

the most certainly can thrive and compete (see Chelsea's or any other college town venue).

They just don't care enough to hire the right people to book it. And they can certainly afford to do so.

Sad day for a once thriving area for music.

well .... a dispatch from last night's screening. Firstly, it was the buzziest screening I have ever attended. I arrived early since I was in the area and 45 minutes before showtime, there were very few seats. The DGA is a fairly large theater. At least 50 people were in line waiting for any chance to get in. That's not normal for this kind of thing. The A24 folks were shuffling some people in that clearly they needed to have in house ... including Mr. Elordi, who sat across the aisle from me and laughed throughout.

For all the "Hollywood" has no original ideas crowd ... here you go: the pulse and tone of this film was incredible. The design was flawless. Kevin O'Leary an Paltrow were perfectly cast. The anachronistic music didn't distract --- but amplified the stakes. Very much reminded me of the Tangerine dream score for Risky Business. t's the sports movie one would expect from a Safdie ... otherworldly tones and visuals. Especially the table tennis action choreography.

And little Timothee killed it. No doubt he gets a nom and likely a win.
Bill Simmons curated the Q+A --- you could tell that Safdie and TC have a great relationship. They will collaborate again.

Bottom line for me --- big time contender for best pic, score, actor, design and sound.

Nice ... Katty is still a good friend and recently moved to LA, so I see her on occasion. She was the first one to really break into showbiz with her internship at Letterman.

That guy .... the one that ruined the station for a bit. Terrible.

I will never forget going to a meeting at the Union fall of 91' to join the station ... you had to fill out a questionnaire about the bands you liked and who you thought other people might not know about. I was so nervous and almost didn't go ... but it changed my trajectory from hanging out mostly with high school frat friends (nothing against that path) to hanging out at the Bayou, Varsity. Hurt my grades and graduation date, but set me up for a lifetime of entertainment work. Great memories of that time.
Saw it last night at a low key Academy screening.

The master at work -- incredible technical delivery in the camera work, design and editing ... as expected from PCW. Funny, dark, timely (AI, financial survival, capitalism etc) ... great soundtrack with haunting visuals, which will certainly draw come comparisons to Parasite.

I really enjoyed it.
Going to an Academy screening Thursday. Excited to see it really and received an email this morning stressing how tight the RSVP list is, so there is some real buzz in town.

Tonight is Jay Kelly.
Tomorrow No Other Choice (really excited about this one)

I was there fall of 91’ to spring 94’
Andrew Knackley and Katty Biscone were there and managers I believe

In the earlier days, there was an apprentice program. I learned under Dr Jazz … amazing experience - a lesson on technical execution and jazz history

The station had an amazing vinyl collection… Which was later discarded when the station took a turn toward modern rock and became very commercial and slick in the mid 90s to late 90s.
she was probably there for a few weeks a year after the brief "falling in love with Nola" period during a job in town. With her bankroll, why not have a pied-à-terre in the city

Happens all the time -- Brad and Angelina the biggest example. Sandra Bullock. Trent Reznor. John Goodman. Dylan too at one point. Jennifer Coolidge. It is the kind of charming, affordable city for that. Until it's time to go.

Sorry ... I do not get Elsie's. I have been a few times when visiting and it is very forgettable.

Maison Lacour is the only restaurant I would have out of BR as a bib.
recommended: Dang's, Cocha and some random taco joint I don't know about since I thankfully moved away a long time ago. Perhaps that noodle place under the overpass too.

the Holdovers
In Bruges
Bad Santa

I don't know why but this bugs me as much as the 555 area code all movies use. Just takes me right out of the experience.

This isn't as much of a thing ... I absolutely refuse to do it in a film as it screams Hallmark MOW.

We now usually buy phone numbers and use them for that bit of reality.

As far as coffee .... I will keep an eye on this on the next one. Good props teams would never allow this.

Four Seasons Koh Samui Thailand ...... their breakfast spread is unreal. They have TWO pastry chefs.

yes, you will stand out amongst the millions of expats from all over including the UK, Australia and the US.

If chasing pros isn't the goal (good on you) .... then head over to Japan. Close enough with plenty of direct flights.

Not many places to clear your head and reset --- cities, beaches and mountains. And if you want a little lady trouble, it's there too.

That's the David Leitch style. Since he co-directed and created John Wick, he gets everything made and also some choice properties (Deadpool,F+F). One of the greatest commercial runs the industry has seen. Especially from a former stuntman.

I just worked with he and his team on "How to Rob a Bank" and I have to say --- one of the nicest, hardest working people in the business. Really solid collaborator.

Next up for him is Oceans 14 I believe and I look forward to seeing what he brings to franchise (and also am hopeful to join the project selfishly).
