re: LSU baseball getting some early preseason love! Preseason #1

Wigsplitta22, thank u for making my point for me twice, cuz you are the best. Florida was unranked, had a much inferior team to us (on paper) but got hot at the end and that Florida team fed on Cags in the playoffs. They came out of nowhere and the team and fans were lit as HELL throughout the playoffs. Does it have to be leaders, plural? Or just one bad MF that can elevate an entire team to get their shite together?! Thanks again Wigsplitter, thank you. We had beasts, but no motivators. Sports ain't all about individual athletic ability Scooter. Heart and mind trumps that sometimes...

So you are vouching for a team that lost 30 games last year? Doesn't seem like their cohesiveness lead to many wins. I don't think you watched much of either one of them to be honest
I sure am vouching for a team with 30 losses. They had a rough stretch during the season, but made it to the playoffs and if you watched of their games in the Regionals, Supers and World Series, you would've seen arguably the hottest team in college baseball. The point is, they had leaders on that team that dug em from the ashes and convinced everybody that they could win it all keyboard warrior. We didn't have that.

Regardless of the talent we have supposedly "on paper", who will be the leader on the team?? That was the biggest missing component last season. No one fired the team up like when we won the natty (Dugas, Beloso, Jobert, etc...). It looked like a bunch of individuals doing their own thing last year and that aint gonna get you to Omaha. When you watched teams like Tennessee and Florida play last season (as much as I hate them both), you saw guys without a doubt playing for each other. That's what I'll be watching for personally.

I'll come out of left field here and say I would've rode the Hellmers train longer to see if he could finish it. He was still throwing strikes low in the zone and forcing ground balls to the infield (except the single) when they were able to hit him. Just me and a bunch of others, but we don't coach LSU....

They are playing Tre Morgan's team this week.

Dugas tweaked a hammy last week and they gave him the week to rest. Should be back in the line-up thisTuesday.

Anybody else remember this from just a couple months ago? It's all mental.

He's shown he has the tools and can be elite at times, but it's the 6" space between his ears that's killing him (and us) right now.
re: Pitching needs to be the first order of business in the transfer portal

Preseason, we were being touted as having one of the best pitching crews in college baseball with transfers and returns. They just haven't lived up to the hype, like most of the rest of the team. Hurd can't even give a decent showing in relief, must less be a weekend starter that was supposed to be a high 1st round pick this year.

Sorry, but I never was a Jacob Berry fan and I'm not surprised with his numbers. Dude (and JJ) was all about Jacob Berry when he was at LSU.

He was supposed to. Not sure what happened last minute other than the new limit on minor league rosters.
re: Does the elevation at Knoxville help with homeruns?

They need to worry about not striking out and just putting the ball in play somewhere waaayy more than they have to worry about elevation this weekend.

Dugas started Friday with Fredricksburg and got his first HBP already in the first game of the season. lol
re: Paxton Kling and Brady Neal BA in conference play

End of the day, somebody needs to show some character on this team and be a leader that the others look up to. We have individuals with a ton of talent that seem to be about themselves and not the team IMO. Unfortunately, you can't teach that.

He's still playing. Just wrapped up Spring and heading back to Fredericksburg

Is Milam out for the injury he had last night, or is it a strategic decision of some sort by JJ? Sorry if I missed a post on the subject, but just seeing the line-up and am curious.
re: Kling = Andrew Stevenson

I think at the end of the day, JJ put him up there to get him as many plate appearances as possible to get out of his funk against "lesser" teams before the SEC play starts. The problem is that he isn't taking advantage of it with good at bats. Tommy White is as hard a hitter as there is in the league and even he chokes up on it when he's behind in the count and just tries to put it in play somewhere.

My biggest concern from last night is that he's obviously in a slump and he's swinging so hard he's falling down on a behind in the count strike 3, multiple times. No foul balls or even foul tips to indicate he's at least seeing it a little bit. He's gotta choke up and try to put the damn thing in play at some point, instead of thinking 420 ft every at bat.
re: Gavin Dugas hits his first MiLB homerun in same game as Dylan Crews

I'm not a statistic buff, but can someone tell us all the last time a starting infielder for LSU ended the season with only 4 errors all year? One on Dugas was because the infield has a 1" lip where it meets the turf and took a bat hop to his shoulder, but were splitting hairs here.

the Nationals just posted on their website that they are curios to know what surgery the half dozen or so Tiger Dropping Doctors recommend he should get on his non-injured shoulder that has healed. Lol! Idiots. He just hit a ball a gazillion feet with a wood bat.
