If you're there for 4th of July, I'll be shooting the big fireworks show on the lake. McCaysville usually shoots a show the Saturday before. It's beautiful up there. You have tubing/white water rafting nearby if that's your thing.

My kids are already going to Hot Springs to my parents in a couple weeks. My wife mentioned Gatlinburg, but the less touristy area sounds nicer. Did you use one of the big sites for rental or a local cabin rental company?

I'd like to take a cheap trip with wife and kids (7 & 8yo) somewhere within driving distance (12 hrs or less). I thought about taking them somewhere you can search for fossils like SC. Maybe take them to a cabin in TN. Just looking for good ideas for making a fun trip with the kids on a budget. I'll find a place for $120/night, but then there's a $300 cleaning fee and $275 resort fee or whatever.
