due to technology outpacing the tactics

German soldiers seeing tanks roll through no man's land at The Somme in 1915

one of the most interesting things about WW1 was that the in many cases the technology even outpaced the tactics for the sides that came up with the tactics. yeah tanks rolled through at the Somme scaring a bunch of Germans, but the Allies had no idea how to exploit that tactical advantage to operational success. same thing with the use of poison gas in many battles. many new, highly lethal, possibly war winning, technologies were brought to bear in WW1 that ultimately didnt amount to much at the time

(but learning did occur, which has a lot to do with the much higher body count of the Second World War)

The sound of the sonic bomb thing in Clones is a transformer blowing out.

say what you will about the prequels, but that specific sound effect was one of the coolest things i've ever seen / heard in a movie

Uh yeah, Star Wars is heavily influenced by WWII.

WWII + Dune = Star Wars
that's a really interesting perspective that i have never really thought of, but it makes sense when you look at it that way

If they could just take out the cylinder de activation shite in the 5.3 that would be perfect.

isnt there a plug and play way to get rid of that?

Supposed to be GM’s next generation V8 in these.

replacing the 5.3 is a huge mistake

The first time I saw it, I was disappointed. The book is absolutely terrifying and there's a huge amount of the book that was left out or not shown in the movie properly. But over the years I have grown to appreciate it for what it is.

comparing the book to the movie and vice versa is an exercise in futility. it's a great book. it's a great movie. but other than the nuts and bolts of plot, they are entirely different stories being told.
anyone saying that Westmoreland or MacArthur were the worst generals ever dont know much about history. both had significant flaws for sure, but they were both good, if not great, generals.

Westmoreland has been villainized and made to look like the cause of the Vietnam disaster for one simple reason - to save LBJ's legacy.

Macarthur was an egomaniac who did a lot of fricked up shite, and ultimately it led to his downfall. but he was also an absolute fricking war dog who knew how to crush an enemy.
edit - wrong school

i will say though that my Bellaire (2 L's) has followed a similar trajectory, but isnt all the way gone yet i dont think

Diesel mechanic shop recs in NOLA

Posted by Sam Quint on 12/5/25 at 11:10 pm
My truck is currently in the airport parking garage not starting, and I need to get it towed to a shop. I have a guy in Covington, but I'm just going to try to get it worked on in NOLA. Any shops you guys recommend? 99 F-250, if that matters

People can bitch about girls being in Scouts, but Girl Scouts don't camp, which is what my daughter wanted to do.

Her troop camps a lot, like once a month. She loves it.

if only there was an even simpler solution than invading the Boy Scouts

This is the same guy that was a failed officer in the Guard

what are you basing this on exactly?
quote:

There are all boy troops.

There are all girl troops (my daughter is in one).

There are coed troops.

There are very conservative troops (my daughter's troop is very conservative). There are definitely more liberal troops.

Like with most massive organizations, it depends on local leadership.

Painting these things with broad brushes is always dumb.

these all boy troops are only one angry feminist with twitter account away from becoming coed troops.
quote:

Get this Lord Baden Powell always wanted girls in Scouts.

yes, i'm sure the culture a hundred years ago that wanted coed Scouts was exactly the same as the culture today that hates men and teaches boys to be girls. this is definitely relevant and definitely is an apples to apples comparison that really puts me in my place.
quote:

This is Cub Scouts. Who gives a shite if 6 year old boys and girls are mixed?

the question is "who gives a shite if they arent?"
quote:

She's one of 2-3 girls in her pack. I don't see how little kids being co-ed in Scouts hurts anything.

because there needs to be something, somewhere, anywhere where it can just be boys only, but the angry feminist crowd will never allow it.

USCG works their mission every day.

They really do. We other branches talk a lot of shite to them, but it's all in good fun. 99% of the time the rest of the military isn't doing much of anything, and the CG is always out there. God bless those guys.
