Check out the “Dual Destiny” statue. It is in Double Springs, Ala (Winston County).
Check out the recent book “Silent Cavalry”. Excellent book by Howell Raines on the 1st Alabama.
Have quite a few that served with the 1st Alabama (Union) Cavalry. One was dispatched as a spy to North Alabama during Sherman’s March. Another died of disease in what is now the Downtown Presbyterian Church in Nashville. I have their pension records which are fascinating as a genealogy and Civil War buff. Have a number of CSA ancestors too. One died during the Atlanta campaign and another was with a unit attached to Forrest.
Moved south of Baton Rouge less than 2 months post-Katrina from Tennessee. I had never been to Baton Rouge prior to moving to the area to look at houses. Had only been to New Orleans a handful of times. Check Katrina fridge poetry. I remember those being pretty somber markers in the aftermath. Also the symbols they would spray paint on the houses. Sad times.
NATO started as a collective defense pact. It is not supposed to be a mutual suicide pact.
We had a number of arborvitae (green giants) succumb to root rot. Likely what you are seeing with these pine trees.
Just picked up a copy of the Lenny White/Venusian Summer record. It’s a fantastic listen. Thanks for the suggestion.
I would recommend Michael Shaara’s novels. He has four on the Western theater of the war. The first about Shiloh (followed by Chattanooga, Vicksburg, & Atlanta). Really enjoyed them. The husband of a great aunt was the surgeon for the 53rd Ohio. Can’t imagine what he saw that day.
When my son was about to turn 5 my MiL passed away suddenly. We prepped for the 5 hour drive. I then went to pick up my son, but did not tell the day care or son anything about what was going on. We planned to tell him at home since he was really bonded with her and we knew it would be devastating. Got to the day care and went to his class. Again, the day care had zero clue other than he was leaving early. Small talk with the teacher and she mentioned he had a really restless nap. She said he was singing. This was atypical as he normally napped well. Asked what he was singing in his “sleep” and she said “I’ll Fly Away”. Heard this and definitely got chills. A special song to us and one that has been on a playlist I made for him since birth. It was one of his Nana’s favorites as well. Still haven’t figured that one out.
Does it matter if your gun has been turned in and melted down?
This reminds me of the “Lost Tribe of Appalachia” aka the “Melungeons”.
He wrote a trilogy called Enemies Foreign and Domestic that you may want to check out.
Look into the 1st Ala Union Cavalry. Walker & Winston Counties supplied many of the troops.
Actually looks like a cool idea. Would be interesting to see it similarly applied at battlefields, historic homes, ships, etc.
Check out the trilogy Enemies Foreign and Domestic by Mathew Bracken. UN troops are brought in by the globalists. There is even a monkeypox pandemic referred to in the series
He has an excellent podcast. The Victor Davis Hanson Show. He has written a few fantastic books as well.
Yogi Berra was a gunner’s mate on an attack transport. He participated in the D-Day operation.
