re: Stetson Bennett, 6 years of College and no Degree?
Posted by AUCEO on 5/14/23 at 11:44 pm
No doubt, Stetson deserves accolades for persevering & being the QB of a team that won NCs. Even so, it seems the level of arrogance & attitude he has projected after the 1st NC has been what he should have & continues to project. Nothing, especially history occurs in a vacuum-he would be wise to understand that fact. I could be wrong but if memory serves me correctly I don't think Kirby had much of a choice but to start Steston the yr he returned, the expected starting QB was injured and the stud backup had transferred leaving Stetson as the starter by default...Think about that & how all of that aligned. All Bennett had to do was not be the worst QB in the SEC or country & UGA would be in the playoffs...He should get some credit for not crashing & burning... but to fail with that roster would have been arguably intentional...Everything for him lined up especially having the best players in the country at every position including on defense, many 2-3 dee...point being, I could have been made to look good with that around.
Someone mentioned he's been paid $2M USD if not more already & my response is SO? That will not sustain him for a lifetime. Curious if he is headed down the path that Johnny Football blazed. Sincerely hope not but I don't know. Have no idea whether he will make an NFL roster but I doubt it...he will no longer be surrounded by the best of the best like he was at UGA...in fact, I'm not confident he earns a spot on a practice squad. If he doesn't have football, I guess UGA fans will always support him no matter what but by chance he had to rely on securing a job specific to his degree...that is unlikely...& being the Check-Out Clerk on Lane 6 at Publix is honest & appreciated work it is not an economics degree job. The point is, he will not be able to find a single job, anywhere with that degree - not without a PhD or a Masters...I bring that up because the day may arrive when he reflects back on his time @ UGA as a STUDENT-ATHLETE (cough-cough) & realizes he should have been more focused on free education... In fact, a similar story has become legendary, and history that occurred during my lifetime...a decision was made on a college campus that resulted in one of the most iconic quotes in American history being stated...a quote born out of utter shock, dismay, as this Great American was almost destroyed in a matter of seconds, downtrodden, overwhelmed with despair as a few thoughts raced through his dysfunctional brain after learning he & his brothers had been placed on Double Secret Probation by the University's Dean/President and namesake. The consequences were severe, resulting in all of them being expelled from Faber University...none were in more of a lowly state, as the great American, John "Bluto" Blutarksy...he was broken, distraught realizing what would be awaiting him... the height of Vietnam War Drafts...He could hold his emotions inside any longer as he yelled out, "...CHRIST, SEVEN YEARS OF COLLEGE DOWN THE DRAIN. MIGHT AS WELL JOIN THE EFFING PEACE CORPS" ...As the brothers sat in an empty room contemplating what happens next suddenly BLUTO was inspired-his despair turned to anger then to rage...now being filled with confidence & an entire 5th of Jack Daniels that he consumed within second & without taking a breath...he stared his brothers down & reminded them that Americans never quit & neither would they...He provided historic precedent to remind them or at least attempted to when he emphatically stated words that have become part of the American lexicon,
"... Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!...
Aaaahhh I apologize for digressing... having no clue what point I initially intended to make...Oh well, that is what it is... I will end with this, the 1st 1/4 of his or at least the past 3-4 yrs' history ended up lining up perfectly for him in a way that few college graduates could ever imagine...If he's required to rely on his economics degree I can state with confidence it will have minimal if any impact on what the history books write about his life in its entirety...Of course, I could be wrong.

I hope Coach Harsin Survives but don't see it happening at this point

My prior post was a weak attempt at humor due to this entire situation being so frustrating. If offended anyone it was not intentional but I really don't care to be honest. SO with that out of the way, I will provide some notes of sincerity. I do not believe any semblance of fairness has occurred in this process any more than what occurred to Gus throughout his final 3 years. He never allowed the public to know what was occurring. He was grilled and questioned about his annual philosophy changes...what the average fan didn't realize was he was given in essence an ultimatum. Each year, the PTB took a different tactic, used their influence in the press & did all they could to assure Gus could not be successful. This is not an opinion. This is a fact from 1st hand information. He turned the table and played them his final 6-9 months...although, he was not shocked he was somewhat surprised considering they knew why recruiting, why wins and losses didn't reflect what expectations were even with the schedule AU plays annually. Ultimately, Within 90 days of coaching his last game for AU, he has over $10M USD wired into designated accounts with the other $10M-$11M USD being paid to him within 6 months from that point. He knew the PTB at AU had just dug themselves a hole...and now, they are only digging one deeper...the biggest difference is the Au base is not so much united behind Harsin as we are united against the power brokers. Not sure if it is like that at other programs or not but it must end at AU. With Harsin, False narratives have been pushed without providing opposing views and undermining has occurred from within and among several beat reporters as well who are aligned with the PTB...I guess the 4 letters are justified...
JABA
I hope Harsin does survive...If he does, I do not think he will do everything he can to prove the PTBs & doubters wrong.
