re: What are the worst buzzword, cliches used by business professionals that need to stop?

I'm sick of hearing every marketing rep regurgitating how "robust" there marketing strategies are. I heard one lady repeat that term at least four times in one presentation.

My Great Grandfather was named Marius Thibodeaux. I always thought that was a great cajun name.

My step father raised from about 12 years old until I left home on my own. He was a business owner for most of his life. When he passed away in 2002 his biological daughter asked me if there was anything I wanted as they were going through his things. I told her the only thing I was interested in was the old bench vise from the store that I'd seen him working at for so many years, to me, it represented who he was. I got the vise in my garage today, 20 years after his death I still think of him every time I look at it.

You know what's kept me goin' all these years? The thought that one day -- Never mind.
Silly. Just the thought that maybe one day, I'd -- I could have a woman's arms wrapped around me... and her legs wrapped around me.
That I could wake up in the morning and she'd still be there. Smell of her. All funky and warm.

Not my opinion, but I've had a hiring manager tell me that he dumps applicants that have degrees from the University of Phoenix. I don't know why, maybe a bad experience with a graduate? Not sure about the others.
re: Reading dog threads on here for years.... when do you know it's time for the big sleep?

I'm not saying that what I'm about to tell you is the answer for your dog, however, it was about 2 years ago my wife asked me if we should put our pet down. She was 14 years old, grey in the face and moving very slowly. She slept most of the day and had no motivation to eat. She ate but it was a job for her to do and she didn't get excited about it at all. I told my wife before we do that lets try something different to see if we could improve her quality of life before resorting to something so drastic. We did a little research and decided to start making her dog food instead of buying a "quality" store brand. We used ground beef or ground turkey, a can of organic pumpkin, 2 cups of brown rice, a bag of frozen peas and carrots finely minced, 6 cups of water and let it cook until the water was gone. This batch size lasts about 2 weeks. In about 2 months she lost almost 50% of her body weight, 16 lbs down to 10 lbs, a healthy outcome as she needed to lose the weight. she started running to her food bowl in the morning and evening and dancing around until we give her the meal. Like I said, It has been two years since we've started making her food and she is as active now as she ever was. You can see the improvement in her fur, activity and how alert she is. Her hearing is going and she still sleeps a lot but she's living a good life now. She will probably be around for several more years.

It's a fragile thing, this life we lead
If I think too much, I can't get over
When by the grace, by which we live
Our lives with death over our shoulders
Want you to know, that should I go
I always loved you, held you high above too
I studied your face, the fear goes away
If I think too much, I can't get over
When by the grace, by which we live
Our lives with death over our shoulders
Want you to know, that should I go
I always loved you, held you high above too
I studied your face, the fear goes away

Every year someone tries to push an OT 10 onto the group. They will never learn, There is no such thing as an OT 10 because there is ALWAYS room for improvement.

re: Hot saltwater mixture to help frozen pipes

Maybe it's just me but the sheer absence of common sense in the comment regarding "pouring hot salt water down the DRAIN, to clear the water SUPPLY lines of frozen water" is overwhelming.

Spring break a million years ago, late 80's in Ft Walton, There was a storm hitting New Orleans so the surf was pretty heavy in Florida. I was in the water when a huge wave came up, I jumped up and turned my back to the impact. As the wave broke past me a girl with an impressive set was facing the wave, and me as I was turned around, It broke over her and stripped her bikini top to her waist. She didn't panic, just very slowly adjusted every thing while smiling.
re: Good news crime story - robber blasted at Wingstop
Posted by GumbeauxGuy on 11/30/20 at 2:26 pm
Agreed, a cell phone isn't worth a persons life. The value of that transaction was established when the criminal made the decision that an innocent persons phone had more value than said persons life, and pointed a gun at him. The intended victim now has to make the decision, who's life is more valuable, mine or his, the phone isn't a factor in his mind. It's life or death, who's to say the criminal would take the phone and shoot the guy anyway, It's happened to a friend of mine, robber held them up and took his wallet, then shot him in the gut for good measure. My buddy survived but had to have some serious surgery. I don't feel bad at all for these bums. If you pull a gun on someone you better be prepared to receive a bullet as well.

The company I work for is a service provider for Shell (one of our clients), the end goal for them is to go from 14 refineries around the world to 6.
re: Let's see what BLM does now
Posted by GumbeauxGuy on 7/15/20 at 10:10 pm
I guess you didn't hear Don Lemon when he announced that the BLM is a movement meant to call out only Police brutality against the black community, evidently you need to start a separate movement to call attention to B on B crime/murders. I guess it doesn't make sense to have one movement cover all of your bases.
re: How long did it take you to finish undergrad?

I started college right after high school, I went off and on for about 2 years and dropped out, got a job, got married, had kids worked on my career. After many years on the job I became frustrated with my lack of advancement so I decided to return to school and get my business degree. I had to start over completely due to loss of credits and a different degree path. I completed mine in 4 years. I took 12 hours a semester plus full summers for all four years. I did this with a wife and kids at home. I was also working full time for a service provider in the Oil and Gas industry, I wasn't in the field any longer but I did carry my work phone 24/7. I had to let my instructors know at the start of the class that I may have to step out of the room for a minute or two if there was an emergency. Never had any issues, Graduated in 2016 with a 3.52, best decision I've ever made. Still working for the same company and I've been promoted 3 times since my graduation.

When I was in high school I remember standing in line at the grocery store and seeing a lady in front of me paying her bill with food stamps. There was something familiar about the colors of the paper they were printed on, suddenly, it hit me like a brick, that was the same color of the "money" that my mom would send me to the store with to buy milk and eggs.
