re: Youth sports (overall Importance)?
Posted by Thebuzz on 11/18/25 at 4:06 pm to UptownJoeBrown
I believe there are certain strengths that are enhanced by youth sports that would help a person later in life. Strengths like resilience, confidence, teamwork, discipline, etc. are a few examples. Those strengths can also be developed through other vehicles.
There have been numerous academic studies on developmental aspects of sports that can be applicable in a business career. Unfortunately many former athletes struggle to connect these dots. Junior Bridgeman and Roger Staubach are two examples that went beyond leveraging their fame to develop great business acumen.

He deserves a statue along with the other two Cy Young winners from the Pirates. There is that long grassy area near the Clemente statue that would be a perfect location for Pittsburgh fans to enjoy.
In a few years, he could also have a plaque in Monument Park just behind the outfield fence in Yankee Stadium.

re: Federal Workers Forced to Withdraw Investment Income Due to Shutdown Should Not Be Taxed

If you don’t have a few months of cash in accessible savings knowing that a shutdown could occur annually, you have made some really poor life choices. There are some exceptions related to unexpected medical bills and other life events but the assumption is that those are uncommon.
After a lots of deliberation, I voted for the plan. My distrust for government and the failure of EBR Parish Government to create post-pandemic efficiencies really caused me to pause, I wanted to give the new mayor a fighting chance. He inherited a mess and needs an opportunity to demonstrate the effective leadership that’s been missing.

Does ESPN Unlimited give you access to ABC?
The bowl with the huge alumni and recruiting base.
ESPN has made Game Day available on their App for everyone, including YouTube subscribers. I guess advertisers have a voice.

Interesting idea but I think the base would need to be larger and the incentive pay less than suggested. Soon there will be 16 playoff teams and if you don’t make the big dance, it would be considered underperforming by the top 30 or so programs.
The only way this proposal had any chance would be if the top program in America would have done that when Nick retired. The only way.

I was under the impression that the athletic department was self funded and didn’t use tax dollars. Maybe I’m wrong but maybe I’m not….

I’m retired and would never pay 1% for investment advice in this stage of my journey. I follow a conservative philosophy and stick with low cost funds in reputable companies that align with my philosophy. I never try to time the market.
That said, I think a qualified tax consultant/CPA could be helpful. I’m will to pay a bit more once a year to help with estimated quarterly taxes, RMD’s, etc.
I’m a huge fan of passive income but that strategy needs to be implemented years before retirement.

If Ole Miss offers him a huge bump to stay and he does stay, he should respectfully decline the raise.
re: Buyout details…54M due to BK no obligation to pay other staff

Assuming the Advocate article on the buyout is accurate, LSU would owe 90% of the remaining contract over the next 6 years. LSU’s athletic budget is $220,000,000. That means the real question is what the opportunity cost would be for spending 5% of your annual athletic budget.
The Coaches Committee is a baseball booster club that was started in the 80’s. There are different level of fees required for membership that gives you access to certain events and meetings.

Bryan Bartlett Starr wasn’t bad, considering he’s in The Hall.

Stanfield hit .298 in the regular season and let the team with a SEC regular season batting average of .326.

The liability and risk mitigation is the primary reason to put the car in his name, as a previous poster mentioned. I had a friend who has a daughter that was involved in a wreck in Boulder, CO and the judgement was significant. The next week I bought a personal liability umbrella policy, based on his experience.
Colorado Springs, preparing to go to work. We lived extremely close to NORAD, which was the location that many felt would shelter the president. NORAD, for those not familiar, is actually imbedded inside Cheyenne Mountain and relatively secure. Everyone at work was concerned that the Springs and NORAD, which I could see from my office window, could be a target. The president went to Barksdale Air Force Base instead.
