I must admit after watching him for many years, this is the last thing I EVER expected to see out of him.

This is NOT good !!... You can try and blame it on frustration with the refs, but to be honest, I firmly believe it goes MUCH deeper than that.

Herb's overall effort level...even though it is still the highest on the team...has been on a bit of a decline...for quite a while now. He probably doesn't even realize it is happening...although it should be fairly obvious to any astute observer.

Not my first choice for sure...

Herb is nowhere near as bad offensively...as many people think. I could explain why this is true...but it would take too long...and is fairly complicated. When Herb is eventually traded...he will suddenly become a much better offensive player and will probably be an even better defensive player than he is with the Pelicans. Other contending teams all realize this...which is why so many of them are interested in obtaining the guy. I hate to say it...but the Lakers would be the perfect fit for both Herb...and the Lakers. Just not sure they have the "ammo" to make that trade happen.

Yeah, herb with more spacing is not bad at all on offense. I agree, he would be so good on the Lakers. Luka would feed him so many good looks. I like the rookie they drafted from Baylor, if you count him as a 1st and they gave us a bunch of 2nds and no bad salary I would consider it for Herb. That would be a move you made at the deadline though if we were out of reach for the playoffs

I'm guessing Luka and even Reaves would go out of their way to get Herb some wide open looks so he would fit in...and even more importantly...school Herb on how to finish at the hoop where he needs to learn how to "slow down"...like they can do SO well. Finishing at the hoop is a major weakness in Herb's game.

Then, maybe Herb could school both of them on how to play a bit of defense. And, with Kessler protecting the rim and Herb handling...well...EVERYWHERE else on the court...Lakers should have a formidable defense...for a change.

Now...figure a way to get the Pels 2 decent 1st round picks for Herb from the Lakers...and it's a win/win...for all concerned.

It doesn't look like anytime soon with a HC that leans to defence.

Hard to imagine Herb being traded until the February 11th trade deadline.

Many, many reasons for Pels to wait until that date...unless, of course, some insane over the top offer is made before then....which is very doubtful.

He's pretty bad. He used to be better pre-injury but now a complete black hole. Teams are happy to let him shoot wide open shots. In fact they actively scheme for it. Do you trust him with any shot on the court?

Guess we'll see who is right...when Herb is eventually traded....and btw...if you want to see a player who the opponent actually DOES leave open to take a 3....watch the Hawks and Dyson Daniels.

I still haven't given up on Dyson...but have mercy...that guy MUST improve his outside shooting. (And FT shooting for that matter)

Clearly herb has always been more valuable than scrubs like wemby and Luka. I'm glad this is finally clear to all.

To be serious & JMO...I think Wemby might well be the best defensive player I've ever seen play in the NBA...EVER !!

Looks like Herb is bringin' back the "Fro"...for tonight's contest.

Couldn't hurt...at least it makes him look taller.

Guess "BigPerm" has more pull that I thought he did.

For Herb, I'd start with their 1st round swap with the Clippers...

Completely pointless with the current Bucks swap. You'd have to get the Spurs pick (protected 1-16) and the swap.

OK...maybe I'm confused...but I was thinking the Thunder could just "give" us their rights to the Clippers 1st round pick...in any trade for Herb...and it wouldn't have anything to do with the Bucks "situation"...

My boy is praying Herb gets traded so he can stop following this franchise

I don't blame you.

Uhh...no comment.

BUT...I WILL say that for the 1st coupla years,,,after Pels drafted Trey and Herb...I was totally onboard and thought they had a decent shot to make a solid leap forward. But, they just kept making mistake after mistake with personnel...imo.

Guess I'm just "worn down"...but if it helps any with my "status" here on the board...I TRULY hope Herb doesn't end up with the Lakers...even thought it would be a better situation for him.

That said...tonight I will be watching and pulling for the Pels...and hoping Herb might see a few more minutes on the court.
Not sure Thunder are interested in Trey...too expensive and not a great "fit",,, so...

For Herb, I'd start with their 1st round swap with the Clippers...after that...we could fiddle around for the smaller stuff to match Herb's $14.9M...this is actually doable,,,if the Thunder are as high on Herb as I hope they are.

Thunder MUST stay under the 2nd apron...which should be fairly easy to do.

To make it sweeter, they could throw in another pick...I assume in the 2nd round.

Key is...just how much value they place on Herb. I think he would be a great "fit" given their situation...but then...Presti hasn't called me to get my opinion....YET !!

quote:

I think Herb is a better all around player than Trey. I’m not a huge fan of either player but I’d rather Herb in the finishing 5 over Trey.

I'm obviously a fan of Herb...but I think I'd rather put it this way when comparing the "worth" of Herb to Trey.

Just about every seriously contending team that I can think of...would prefer to add Herb to their roster...instead of Trey. They tend to have plenty of scorers and not enough "D",,,especially come playoff time...and this is before considering Trey's extra cost to acquire in a trade AND his salary compared to Herb's.

Bottom line...I'm not saying Herb is "better" than Trey...just saying most contenders would prefer adding Herb...all things considered. Of course, I COULD...be wrong.

Now might be a good time to have some talks with Sam Presti about Trey or maybe Herb.

Herb probably a better "fit" for Thunder....than Trey...and Thunder have a load of 1st & 2nd round picks in the near future. Hope something can be worked out...

People are anointing this guy as the future of the franchise and I don’t see it. The guy can’t shoot, can’t defend, and can’t pass. He’s not a point guard at all.

Pels have several players that each think they should score 20-25 points per game. As a result, we have very few players that can make other players better. I assume we will be absolutely horrible, relatively speaking...at our rate of assists per game.

Basically, we have several...and I hate to say it..."LOSERS" ...and one of our few "winners"...is probably out for a while. I expect Trey to continue to show very little enthusiasm playing with this team...and I completely understand why he feels that way. Amazing that Herb has maintained his level of effort given the level of play of nearly all of his teammates.

JMO...I COULD be wrong.

I have no problem with dealing Herb for the right price, but there is no reason to get rid of your best defender on the cheap. Just keep him and bring him off the bench

I'm just not sure the current "Herb" is worth $67.5M for the next 3 years (after this season)...MAYBE...for some other team...but definitely NOT...for a team like the Pelicans. Course'...I could be wrong.
---the powers that be with the Pels...have decided to move Herb at the midseason deadline in February. Guess they could trade him even sooner but it makes sense to wait until the deadline.

---Probably best for all parties concerned...Pels can get more floor time for the younger guys and Herb can hopefully land with a serious contender...who might be desperate for a player like Herb...and MIGHT be willing to overpay to secure him. Sounds like it could be a "win/win" to me.

Expect the Hornets to take a huge step up this season...and agree that Herb will be gone by the trade deadline.

Even fully healthy this team will struggle to make the play in. Not as many tanking teams in the west this year. I pray to god Dumars can see the writing on the wall with this team when we start losing to begin the season that this team needs to be blown up. I’m more scared that Dumars will use assets to try and improve this team

Not sure there will be ANY..."tanking teams in the West this year". Doubt any team wants to mess around...on purpose,,, and only win 20 games or so {like last year) and flirt with those bottom 3 spots. Trash wins...will be at a minimum. Not good...for a team like the Pelicans.

which means a bunch of easy wins will no longer be available for a team like the Pelicans.

So, whatever prediction you have for Pelicans over/under next season...if you haven't considered that variable...I probably would...if I were you

So whatever prediction you have for every single team in the NBA needs to be adjusted and seeding doesn't change at all.

Apparently, I did a poor job of explaining my "point". I'll try this way...last season, the Pels went 11-7 vs the 5 worst teams in the NBA who were basically trying to lose as often as they could. Their combined W/L record was 100-310. As noted, the Pels were 11-7 vs these teams...and 15-49 vs all the other teams in the NBA...who were NOT trying to lose like the bottom 5 teams were.

I thought the subject of this thread was to discuss the over/under on the amount of "wins" the Pelicans would have this year...NOT "seeding". With basically no teams wanting to end up in the bottom 3...that 11-7 record vs the "total tankers" will vanish. So, getting 26 wins next season will be harder to get...than they were this past season...given the disappearance of the "total tankers"...and when analyzed with the 3-2-1 "variable" included.
Bottom line...given the new 3-2-1 lottery system, I doubt ANY team will want to finish in the bottom 3 of the final standings and hurt their odds come lottery time. So...the days of teams purposely going 20-62 (or worse) are probably over, which means a bunch of easy wins will no longer be available for a team like the Pelicans.

So, whatever prediction you have for Pelicans over/under next season...if you haven't considered that variable...I probably would...if I were you.
