That was downright embarrassing and infuriating to watch. Sumlin simply had to bleed the clock just a little on every play to make it impossible for UCLA to come back but he couldn’t even figure that out. Stuck a true freshman QB in there and ran a hurry up offense.
Watched that game on a TV run by an oil field generator, outside at a friend’s house which had survived Hurricane Harvey with destroyed houses all around us in Holiday Beach, TX. Holiday Beach took a direct hit from that storm. It was a surreal environment. I’ll never forget it.

Yep. While their recruiting rankings have consistently been very high, they were recruiting for the Track Meet Conference where no D is played at all. Even then, they were still an also ran.

This. Texas and OU already recruit at very high levels. Heck, Texas is #7 overall over the last 12 years and what has that done for them? Barely above .500 in the big 12.
