I just saw that too, on the bottom line watching the SEC tournament.
It's a real shame too. Seems like he was really turning it around after a rough start to the season.

Schmidt is dealing now!!! Would be great if he could work into a more reliable bullpen option behind Cowan and Evans.
re: Can we be honest about Guidry?

LSU head coach Jay Johnson spoke with reporters on Monday and was asked about Gavin Guidry, who has yet to pitch this season.
Johnson said Guidry is still working his way back, but they don't want to rush him.
quote:
"There are benchmarks every day, and he has to hit the benchmarks to go to the next step," Johnson said. "I want to pitch him badly, but I’m not going to put him in a position where we go out one time and go backwards, especially now at this point in the season."
When asked whether or not redshirting him was an option, Johnson said the hope is to get him back to this season.
quote:
"We are trying to get him back this season. If it comes to a point where that’s what we need to look at, then we’ll do that."
"There’s a balance of doing right by the player and doing what’s best for the program."
"But there are actual benchmarks that have to be hit, and we didn’t hit them last week, so we kind of reset and restart. But I'm very hopeful that we will be able to use him this weekend. I just can’t answer that until Thursday."

If saints don't pick up a 1st/2nd round QB in the draft this year, and they end up in a favorable draft position again , wouldn't it be great to see him play for his dad with the Saints

Sec + through ESPN app if you add you cable/streaming account that includes sec network
When Gavin Guidry returns, do y'all think we may see Cowan make a move to weekend starter?
Posted by Geaux_Le_Tigre on 3/27/25 at 9:36 pm
I just feel like he's too talented to not end up a weekend starter, unless both of the other two starters reach their potential.
I know he's valuable as a reliever, but I feel like either him or Guidry could move into the weekend starter role, with the other remaining a reliever.

Is throwing that many changeups really sustainable over long term? It's just seems crazy to me that one one can hit him when they know it's coming. I guess it works because they're been swinging faster pitches all game?

Definitely happy to hear the most likely scenario is him staying with LSU indefinitely. Didn't realize the jump from college to pro was almost non-existent.

Is there a way a coach could go from college to pro then work their way back up the ranks, or it just doesn't happen at all?
Jay Johnson go pro?

I'm super impressed with Jay Johnson. This is an entirely different style of play this season with this team.
As there a real chance of him going to the MLB? I haven't heard anything, but I fell like he has to have been getting calls.
