What fertilizer do you all use on your Japanese maples? Any specific instruction on how to make them grow bigger sooner?

LED strips around outside steps
Posted by avidday on 5/20/24 at 7:22 pm
The house has two larger steps leading to the front door. I’m looking for a glow-like effect from underneath the treads.
I want to make sure I can dim them a lot, until I get the desired effect. Do I just need to get waterproof LEDs that say “dimmable” and a controller that includes a dimming option? Or is there something in particular I should be looking out for? There’s a ton of options out there.
Also where do you buy your LED supplies online?

Developer for Computer Program Idea?
Posted by avidday on 11/10/23 at 7:23 am
I'd like to hire someone to develop a computer program that I think would streamline some mundane day-to-day tasks in my job. Any suggestions?
Basically the program idea is to create a databank of contacts/information, have the bank searchable/clickable, and then the program integrates the selected data into an existing PDF form, as well as pump out some other form documents based on the information selected. There are a few more intricacies involved than that, but nothing too extravagant.

Wooded property with water. Too many snakes. Do you all know of any products that work well to deter/repel the snakes?

Anyone here taken the exam? Did you buy the books? Where can I find practice tests? Suggestions on how to prepare?
re: Centipede Lawn Schedule

So if I spread 15-0-15 in Marchish (when everyone on the board told us to do so), when should I apply again? And what’s the difference between milo and 15-0-15, and which is better?

And I’ve seen people ask for this in other threads. But never found a good enough schedule other than “centipede is easy, just do 15-0-15 in February and later in the year”
Centipede Lawn Schedule
Posted by avidday on 6/3/20 at 8:00 am
The Randy Lemmon lawn care schedule seems pretty straightforward for the grass novices on this board. But my yard is centipede. Does anyone have a similar straightforward by month breakdown of what I need to do for centipede, including herbicide, etc.?
Second question: I fertilized with 15-0-15 earlier in the yard. But now everyone is talking about Milorganite these days. Is this an interim fertilization? When/why is it needed?

Talstar P - Repellent?
Posted by avidday on 6/2/20 at 7:27 am
I ordered some Talstar P from Amazon after reading a bunch of threads on here about it. I sprayed a healthy layer on pretty much everything, including my house's siding. It repelled all the mosquitoes for that night, but, by the next morning, I had a bunch of mosquitoes right back resting on my siding by the back door.
Talstar P had so many good reviews on here and on the Internet. Questions are: Does it act as a repellent or does it just kill the mosquitoes on contact? Should I purchase another chemical to spray also to act as a repellent? Do I just need to keep applying until I get the mosquito population under better control? Are my expectations too high because we live in South LA and will always have mosquitoes? Is there a stronger product than Talstar P?

Speakers for Expanded Patio
Posted by avidday on 4/19/20 at 7:23 am
I have an old school receiver with wired speakers in the existing outdoor area. I have since expanded to build an outdoor kitchen and add a TV. I’d also like to put a speaker in the corner of the yard by the play set. This play set speaker would need to be wireless but there’s a power outlet over there.
So what would you suggest? SONOS connect with SONOS speakers?

I bought a small swivel tv mount with extender arm and then attached an Air King to it. Works great.
re: Sunday Lawn Care

It said my lawn was over 7500 and then I asked for a resize/requote. It came back with a red line around my yard from the satellite image and it ended up a lot less than 7500.
And no I haven’t received mine yet

Need a video of Les Miles saying "The Want"

It's for a presentation. I've been watching random Les Miles clips for a half-hour trying to find a good soundbite. You'd think it would have been easier than it has been. Help with a link?

Weed Killer murdered my grass
Posted by avidday on 3/31/19 at 11:23 am
Had a bunch of clovers in my front yard. So I got one of those weed killers that hooks up to your hose. It said that it was safe with centipede grass but now I have big dead brown patches. What to do?
