Add SS, state, and local taxes and it’s over 50 percent. The fact that it’s progressive means that those who actually pay taxes are working for free much longer,

Newsflash. The federal gov’t makes all of us work for free for almost half the year. To pay people like you.
re: What is Kiffin's plan? What will he do to turn this around?

Pretty good question.
1) He's probably the best fit with the LSU brand in the modern era (including Saban). The LSU brand is basically pirates from a unique culture. LSU basically ended Miami's bad boy reputation in one evening in 2005 and it's taken them 20 years to recover. If you've been to other great stadiums, they are awesome but feel like county fairs compared to the gladiator/Roman Coliseum feel of Saturday night at Tiger Stadium. Kiffin is perhaps the first coach we've ever had who can amplify that experience.
2) He's creative offensively. Louisiana excels at producing skill position athletes, but it never feels like LSU realizes their potential on offense. Hopefully he can improve that.
3) He's good in the portal. To be fair, so was BK, but BK was not able to develop the portal talent. It seems Kiffin not only recruits well in the portal, but also develops talent.
4) He kept Baker. Curious to see how DL hire goes.
5) He's basically the best social media influencer among CFP coaches. I think this is important for kids. Kelly to his credit, tried, but it was like watching Homer Simpson dance.
So putting this together, If I'm Kiffin, the plan is
1) Elevate and sharpen the LSU brand.
2) Finally use the Louisiana skill position talent creatively.
3) Be a force in the portal and develop talent.
4) Become known for letting DC's develop and become HC's elsewhere.
5) Be the best known name in CFB.
The downside of this is that what gets built up always gets torn down. It's the nature of our media. So I'm guessing we get 1-2 years of build out. 2-3 more years of championship level play. Then the tear down.

No doubt, but I was responding to a poster rationalizing his envy of other people’s money by complaining about taxpayer money being used for subsidies, which were only there because liberals wanted to subsidize EV adoption. Those subsidies are disappearing. Maybe self-driving will replace the value of the subsidy to Tesla drivers. I’d think it would be close.

Inherent Vice and this one are the weakest entries in PTA filmography. He needs to stay away from Pynchon.

I mostly agree with this, but the ‘economics’ you refer to were the economics of slavery. There are no ‘good guys’ and ‘bad guys’ here. My criticisms are directed towards the Lost Cause people. The South was wrong on this issue.

I’m not defending anyone in the Union. I’m pointing out the hypocrisy of those who insist that the Civil War was really not about slavery.

Not at all. My comments are pointed towards those who insist on finding another motive besides slavery for the onset of the Civil War. If you add “because of slavery” to every ‘State’s Rights’ and ‘the economy’, it makes a lot more sense.

The confederacy sought to be free of the tyranny of a constitutional republic rejecting slavery. There is no version of history where the Civil War is fought over anything but the desire to keep slavery as an institution. Dress it up all you want racist, but those are the facts.

STFU d’wad. Of course the Union fought to preserve the union. The Confederacy fought to keep slavery.

The city should install stautes of the Comus dancing heads in the old Lee Circle.

And what are those principles that are uniquely Southern and embodied in confederate statues?

I have no problem with black communities not wanted to memorialize men who wanted to keep them slaves. I also reserve the right to criticize what replaces some artistically made statues.
