re: Fishing rod recommendation - texas rig...
Posted by ryanwood99 on 4/11/25 at 12:19 pm
If you were going to splurge for a rod, your tx rig or jig rod is a good choice to do it on. I run Kistler Heliums for that duty but the 7-7,3 medium heavy Kistler Argon for $99 is a great choice. The Kistler KLX is a step up and I think they are $149. They are 100% made and the owner has addressed any issues I’ve ever had personally. I got turned onto the years ago by Matt Herrin, buying some of his after the season was over. I’ve never looked back.

I meant the Jack Daniel’s SBBP Rye, the bourbon is good but the Rye version is a step above IMO

Depends on where you live. I’m in Iowa but across the river in IL all the lower level allocated stuff is easy to find. The EHT, ER, Blantons type stuff. The next tier Stagg, EHT Straight Rye, Blantons SFTB, Weller FP, Antique, etc… is still tougher to find but getting easier. I think the bubble has pretty much popped and you’ll start to see more just depends on how your state does allocation. If you want some shelfers that are pretty great the Heaven Hill grain to glass are all very good, Jack Daniels SBBP, Green River Cask Strength, if your hard pressed Very Opd Barton 100 proof. The biggest sleeper of them all is Larceny Barrel Proof, pound for pound best thing out there IMO that can be found pretty regularly for $75 or so. It’s wheated but I’ve never blinded it against BTAC where it didn’t finish in the top 2

I live in Iowa and I don’t know a single blue voter. I don’t see it

Larceny Barrel Proof isn’t too hard to find and is the best thing going under $75 IMO. On the higher end I don’t think anyone is making anything as good as the Parker’s Heritage bottles I’ve gotten my hands on.

I hated Live until I saw them in concert and became a fan. They put on a hell of a show.

Manhattan. Using Antica Formula vermouth has been an absolute game changer
re: Huge Fight at Fred's...UPDATE: Arrest made

I skipped a bunch of pages but worked as a bouncer at Fred’s late 90s early 2000s and I will say Mark does things the right way. It was made very clear to break up fights and remove problems. If you fought back you would not work there for long. Total 180 from the other Tigerland bars I worked at. Mark kept everything above board. Fred’s isn’t the issue.

Bought the wife a snow blower after I got sick of paying $100 a pop for the lawn care folks to clear it. I still end up doing it most of the time because I think it’s awesome shooting snow 100 feet in the air annd all over the place. Got almost a foot in Bettendorf, IA today. Different world than living in the south that’s for for sure.
re: Skinamarink (Shudder) - anyone watch it, yet?
Posted by ryanwood99 on 10/27/23 at 7:57 am
Nothing happens the entire movie and that’s what is supposed to be so good about it. IMO it’s just for people to pretend they like so they can seem smart or something. I wouldn’t waste your time. It’s dogsh!t.
re: Do you show up early/on time or late usually?
Posted by ryanwood99 on 10/7/23 at 10:07 pm
Business- sales calls- show up 10 min early go in 3 minutes early, zoom calls 3 minutes early, everything thing else I’m early and walking in on time
Party- always late unless I’m helping the host

re: Cuisine in Omaha

It was packed and I couldn’t even get a seat at the bar to eat. Had to settle for Burger King on the way back to the Double Tree which I am now regretting lol. Steaks are awesome though $40-$80 range and comes with a salad bar that’s good and a traditional steakhouse side…baked potato, fries, steamed veggies. You have to ask for the “whiskey” version of whatever steak you order that’s done in their special marinade. It’s not a big place so I would recommend reservations after seeing how packed it was tonight.

Regarding The Drover: I’m actually in Omaha tonight and will go eat there and post some prices. I got turned on to it a few years ago by a client and try to go every time I’m in town. Yes, they still have a salad bar and the atmosphere is like a mix or a 70’s porno and western saloon. I actually got a case of Blantons there about a year ago pretty close to msrp when the owner ordered his own barrel.

I alway enjoy a whiskey ribeye at The Drover and they usually have a good bourbon selection. Not fancy but one of the better steaks in Omaha IMO

re: Pre-rigged Worms
Posted by ryanwood99 on 4/7/23 at 7:27 am
Had a co-angler wear me out from the back of the boat on Lake Eufaula using a purple one with white dots, dragging it on a Carolina rig. Wasn’t one with spinners, it was just a crooked pre-rigged worm that cork screwed behind the weight.

Pretty clear he’s trying to intimidate people to take down things when he is clearly liable for some despicable behavior.

Which one pays back the most at each of these places? Boom. Case closed. I tried to maximize credit card rewards in the past and quickly got tired of it for the extra $7 dollars you’ll get back vs the alternative. I have one card that gives back something everywhere so I don’t have to think about it and amazon card for amazon.
This is what I do. Citi 2% cash back on everything and signed up for an Amazon card for 5% back on everything I order from Amazon. I don’t use the Amazon card, it’s linked to the account so the only physical card I use is the citi 2%.
re: Car Rental Advice
Posted by ryanwood99 on 12/13/22 at 2:27 pm
Most policies from major carriers transfer. Always worth double checking. If you get any of the coverages, the damage waiver is usually the one that’s worth it. As long as you return the keys you are pretty much good to go, at least with Enterprise. Enterprise will usually match any price around and they have better service. National, Alamo, also usually good.

went and got a rental car of my exact make and model, manually swapped all 4 tires from my car to the rental, then took it back. Had a whole new set of tires for bout $75
I manage 4 states for a large rental car company. I get stories all the time of people trying to do similar things and getting caught. We usually just charge them for it and put them on a do not rent list. The things people try and take are pretty crazy. A few slip through but many get caught.
