By supercomputer, you mean what exactly?

Hardware requirements for programs are minimal; the apps are no larger than a few megabytes on disk, use a few megabytes of memory (but can use much more, if it is available), and any processor 300Mhz or faster is sufficient. Performance will vary modestly with processor speed, but sufficient memory to hold a large transposition table (up to several gigabytes or more) is more important to playing strength than processor speed.
And Stockfish is currently the best program.
quote:
Stockfish can use up to 1024 CPU threads in multiprocessor systems. The maximal size of its transposition table is 32 TB.
I generally agree that you need advanced computers to beat human GM's, but by and large, you are in good hands with an early recommendation from a reasonably strong computer running a good program.
I think Magnus threw a bit of a fit, but I don't trust Niemann at all, either.

Magnus and Hans are both in a tournament that starts next week. No word further from Magnus on any of the controversy, but we did have Chess.com taking the measure of banning Hans from its money matches in the middle of the Sinquefield Cup.
Anyone have any predictions about the upcoming tournament? My prediction? Magnus just plays it off and doesn't even comment further, leaving us to guess at his real intent.

There are many, many threads by which JFK crossed TPTB, and while I think UFO's were definitely one of the areas that made the Rulers uneasy, I'm 99% positive his assassination was already in motion before November 12. Some researchers suggest efforts in Miami and Tampa before Dallas were thwarted for various reasons.
However, an interesting thread about JFK's preposterous "autopsy" in Bethesda Maryland was something that Oliver Stone came across in his further studies. One of the physicians described a guy smoking a cigar who seemed to be overseeing the entire operation and making his presence felt. The physician didn't know who it was, but could tell that he was "in charge" and that others in the room were answering to him. It later was revealed that this man was none other than General Curtis LeMay. LeMay, of course, wasn't part of the power structure that represented the Federal Reserve or the CIA or Mossad...but he most certainly would have been the one in charge of Military Intelligence (referred to in this memo as "classified...USAF sources").

It's an interesting case, because Hans' analysis, as you stated, simply did not pass muster. Especially the next day when he apparently didn't understand his game with Firouzja.
Don't forget, he said he had looked at this line twenty moves deep before the game...even though Magnus played a novelty on move 4, one which he had never personally played in his registered chess history.
Stockfish analysis shows that Magnus made 4 inaccuracies and 3 mistakes. That is why it's such an interesting predicament. Magnus did himself no favors in that game, and there is nothing inherent to suggest computer aid was used in any way.
I'm just going to eat the popcorn and see how it plays out.

But compared to other old horror movies (The Amityville Horror, Halloween, The Exorcist, Carrie) I don't get it. I'm glad it inspired the remakes. I'm just shocked it has the following it does.
The title itself was quite a jolt at the time. The themes, grittiness, suggestions, and general sense of trauma was pure 1970's. You have to understand the 1970's was the first time that filmmakers felt like you could put anything on screen, and thus it was the era of experimentation.
I agree it doesn't exactly hold up, but its inclusion in the history of cinema is warranted.

YouTube video has Peter Farelly talking about filming Kingpin. Bill looked at the script and then tossed it aside and said, "I've got it..." He just skims scripts to get the basic understanding of the plot and character then improvises everything.
They needed him to throw three strikes when filming Kingpin...
Let him tell the story.

Other than the pay, I think the AC and classroom size issues are put out there by malcontents who see how nice the suburbs of Columbus have it and want to pretend that they're in the same boat. News flash, you're not, and you knew that going in. There really is no need for A/C in Ohio schools. The worst of summer is over. Yes, you might get into the upper 80's once in a while in September or May, but it just isn't worth the cost, from a taxpayer standpoint.

I heard Joe DiGenova explain that the Durham investigation had nothing to do with reports, but that it was going to directly lead to criminal prosecutions....two and a half years ago.
But don't worry, Durham is "very thorough."

It's the perfect week for some random middle-tier Power 5 versus another middle-tier Power 5 that rarely happens. Like, Nebraska versus Virginia Tech, or Mississippi State versus Syracuse, etc.

This is his attempt at finessing his first comments, and all it did was make it worse.
He comes off as an intellectual lightweight, as well. Using a phrase like "infinitesimally small" is sophomoric fodder. He actually said that any corruption concerning Joe Biden (acknowledging the likely veracity of Ukraine and China kicking back money through Hunter) is infinitesimally small compared to Trump University! Besides being profoundly inaccurate in his use of language, it's not even a valid point to make! Foreign agents buying influence through corrupt deals isn't that big of a deal?

I think honest scientists go even further than saying that there is no emergency. There are many, many benefits to increased CO2 and a moderate warming of the atmosphere, and it's quite easy to defend!

City needs to cut the trees down.
I mean, imagine having an issue with zone enforcement in a hyper-regulated, ultra-micro-managed Leftist enclave! These types of places will tax property owners over the air that they breath and then allow this intrusion to fester non-stop!
The houses in that area range from 350-700 K. Imagine paying half a million dollars for your dream home next to a creek in Portland and having the city give you the shrug.
re: Anne Heche was filming movie about sex trafficking before her death

I was thinking August Rush, World's Greatest Dad, and Angriest Man in Brooklyn. He'd already covered some psychopath tendencies in One Hour Photo (fantasizes about a young boy he sees at work) and Insomnia (murderer of a teen), as well.
Sometimes you have to read between the lines with Hollywood, for sure. Kind of like Zac Ephron minimizing his work to get ripped for Baywatch, and saying things like, "I'm not ever going to do that again," clearly referencing the pressure to take PED's for the role.

I think Robin Williams was either doing the same or he was going to talk. He was killed with the same MO.
I don't know exactly what the angle is in the Robin Williams death. I had read about erotic asphyxiation gone wrong, then possibly a hit for something he was going to let out publicly, then his wife said something about his disorder that was getting worse.
I will say this, it wasn't out of the blue like Cornell and Bennington. His roles in his later years were clearly showing a man who was under extreme duress about something. He really had a problem with Mrs. Doubtfire, and how they were trying to force him to do a sequel, which he refused to do.

In the 1980's, the classic radio stations played Monster Mash and Jan and Dean. No radio stations play those anymore. I grew up thinking those would always be called "classics"!
