re: Ohio State fans claiming Burrow is like

Why? Ohio State isn’t forgotten to Joe. He’s a graduate. Remember, he was a grad transfer. I don’t know if Ricks is an LSU grad. Probably half the fan base wanted him over Haskins and those are the ones still claiming. In Joe’s own words, deeds, and actions he’s a Tiger and Buckeye (my ordering was intentional).
In that interview, it was notable what Joe said and didn’t say. After saying he still claims Ohio State in addition to LSU, he said he still stays in contact with coach Day (his OSU OC/QB coach), coach Dennis (his OSU QB QC coach, and coach Marotti (his OSU S&C coach). Notably, no mention of Urban who made the choice for Haskins.
End of the day, it was win-win for both schools. But for Gerry Hodges, we would have played you in the Superdome in Jan 2020 and that would have been a hell of a game.

It is silly, though. Not as silly as Nebraska refusing to recruit a legacy not once, but twice.
Yes, Joe is an Ohio kid, graduate of The Ohio State University, and I guess The Louisiana State University (although clearly he won a dual degree of Heisman and Nattie at LSU). He claims he's a Buckeye and a Tiger, and that's good enough for me, but let's allow him to claim both, not us Buckeye fans claiming him.
He's now leading an historically moribund Ohio NFL franchise, and I think this also has something to do with Ohio pride being shown by Buckeye/Bengals fans.
To all the Tiger fans on this thread, what you aren't realizing is all things wrong and evil in this world all trace back to Ann Arbor. This entire public claiming of Joe as a Buckeye is because a Michigan Man, Tom Brady, told Joe it was good that he left "that godforsaken place" and that got Buckeye Nation all riled up.

re: Who's the one coach you DONT want

That’s basically Saban in 1999. Played Kent State. DB coach at Kent State and Ohio State, then some other places up north. Then Toledo HC, Browns DC, then Michigan St HC, then LSU HC b

Are there high quality Catholic high schools in Baton Rouge? Fickell and his wife are devout. I think he’s a long shot for you. Campbell is who I would go for. Saban wasn’t from the South.
I figure you’ll hire Napier, but wouldn’t be surprised if it’s more of the same angle with Kiffin.

Neither team plays there, except Stanford back in the day if it won the old PAC 8, so you are ignorant.

Happy Memorial Day everyone. Been awhile since I’ve been in these parts.
Was perusing the Chicago Bears and came upon this. It’s got a LSU connection so I thought I’d drop it here. The brave Young Bussey.

re: Youngstown State Penguins fans on Pelini
Posted by Scioto on 11/4/20 at 5:47 pm
Mike Riley was a disaster for them. Pelini wasn’t awful. He was 9-3 Pelini. Funny thing is, at exactly 67 games, Harbaugh has the same record at Michigan as Pelini had at Nebraska, 46-19. I just think Pelini’s scheme, like Harbaugh’s, has passed him by in this era of college football.
Frost is a good coach, but Nebraska will never get back to 1990s or even 1970s/1980s Nebraska. End of Prop 48 really hurt their recruiting, as well as how college football has changed since then. Leaving the Big 12 also hurt their recruiting, plus it’s just damn hard to recruit kids to Lincoln. Although there are a billion reasons annually why the move to the Big Ten was the right decision for the university, the athletic department is 2x 3x richer than it was, and they don’t have to deal with Texas dictating terms, the Big Ten move hurt them on the field.

That comeback win by Pelini from down 24-3 over Ohio State was 2011 when Luke Fickel was the interim after Tatgate, Luke was completely unprepared then (in 2020 definitely not and Luke would coach circles around Pelini today), and nine starters, including Terrell Pryor, were ineligible. Pelini is a douche, a first class jerk. You all were warned. He’s never been welcomed back to Ohio State, Youngstown is glad he’s gone, and he’s your problem now.

In a normal season it's very hard to replace that much talent from what may have been the best college football team ever (or at least in the discussion), let alone a Heisman Trophy winning QB and both coordinators. Now, throw COVID into it, no Spring practice, no normal Summer session, interrupted Fall camp. However, Leach and Mississippi State had the same 2020 factors, but that's a solid team that brought back a lot from last year and added Leach.
When is the rest of the SEC going to stop with this bullshite SEC SEC SEC mantra and start demanding answers? Why does Alabama open up against Mizzou? It's going to get interesting, however. This will be the first year in the Saban era when Alabama plays more than 3 straight P5 teams, and they won't have byes or chickenshit Saturdays before playing LSU, Auburn, or Georgia (but the only team in my lifetime more overrated than UGA is TAM).

I’ve got to wait another 28 days, so I may eat my words. But I’m confident I won’t. A lot of teams will be exposed in this strange year. Three teams won’t and they also had no opt outs.
I agree the SEC is the best football conference, and most years by a wide margin. Just look at NFL draft numbers. With all that talent in your backyards, however, an argument could be made that the SEC should be much better than it is.
There is the occasional season when the Big Ten can challenge for supremacy, such as 2014.
One thing about this strange season, with the SEC not starting until next weekend and the Big Ten for not another month, I’ve watched a lot more ACC and Big 12 than I would normally. There’s a lot of bad football played in those conferences. I’d take Purdue or Indiana or Missouri or Kentucky over most teams in those conferences except for the few obvious ones.

I wouldn’t include UF, UGA, or AUB in that group, and with the exception of last year, I wouldn’t include LSU. Heck Minnesota beat Auburn last year and the last time UGA won anything I was a senior in high school.
Bottom line is everyone needs to play the games, win the games, and then 13 people will make a decision.

This season is ....... well, it’s 2020. What else can be said. In most years, the top and bottom of the two conferences are usually comparable. It’s the wide middle of good teams where the SEC sets itself apart. And you are assuming every SEC team gets in its 10 games this year.
But the SEC always plays 8 conf games until 2020. And the argument every year prior to 2020 was “an 8 game SEC schedule is too hard, we have to schedule the chickenshit Saturday slate of games.” You can’t argue both ways. Would it make you feel better if Ohio State adopted an SEC and Clemson tradition, went rogue, and scheduled The Citadel for 10/17?

The daily rapid testing will avoid the position group quarantines that have led to game cancellations/postponements so far this season.
But it’s a valid point. B1G handled this awfully. A national embarrassment. There’s no flexibility in the schedule if Rutgers or Mich State players decide to go to a house party. However, why do you assume the SEC, ACC or Big 12 will get in a full 10 or 11 game schedule. And if all conferences do get in their full seasons are 10+1 really significantly different than 8+1?
For the first time, B1G is playing an 8 game regular season Conf schedule and ACC and SEC fans are complaining. LoL.

Targeted Green 13 times last night, 3 catches. Denzel Ward had a great game and had a lot to do with that. But there was one beautiful throw that Ward made a good play on, but Green should have caught it. Just a perfect throw. The TD pass to Uzomah was also a perfect toss. A noodle arm can’t make those throws.
A QB doesn’t escape several times like Burrow did last night without being athletic. The TD run against the Chargers is athleticism.
McElroy’s takes are usually solid and I like him, but this is not up to snuff.

re: Burrow has thrown 60 times. Does Cincy have a RB?

I believe I heard a stat this morning in Columbus radio that Burrow took 26
hits. Bengals have to establish the run. He can’t throw it 61 times. That’s a recipe for disaster. He’s not playing against any Big 12 defenses. Steelers twice, Ravens twice, Redskins. Browns again. All very good D lines. He won’t survive the season. Bad NFL teams often are only good at ruining good QBs, and I’d hate to see that happen to Burrow.

Great game from Burrow. That O line, however, especially the right side. Pathetic. Awful. Can’t establish the run if the line is always getting blown up. Shows how good Burrow is with the game he had and multiple defenders in his face all game long. The hits though have me worried that Joe won’t finish this season.

It would have been a good game. Your defense was not a typical LSU defense last year and Ryan Day would have drawn up a good game plan. Clemson’s defense was a lot of smoke and mirrors, unlike a typical Clemson D. LSU was advantaged by what Ohio State did, and Brady and Day know each other. Ohio State shot themselves in the foot vs Clemson. Ohio State’s D would have held up better than Clemson’s for reasons others brought up.
That said, Fields was probably 80% and Dobbins got hurt. In the second half LSU would have pulled away.
