You're 100% correct here. Regardless of how it started, this would've been better had the alleged perp just let this go or called the law. It's a good lesson for all of us at this guy's expense.

I've been told this a number of times. I met her several times at different events and she was very nice. Knew a number of people who worked with her and they did not like working with her at all. Your last sentence I quoted was their general sentiment.
